Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 15
Aires eyed the food on the nightstand. How can he feed himself with a weak body… his prayers were suddenly answered when he saw a fluffy black hair slowly peeked in to see him. He smiled, “What are you doing? Came to feed me? I appreciate the thought.”
Hale entered with a tray of desserts, “You should’ve called… and… this is my apology,” He bowed then presented the delectable treat, “I know that you would rather save a thousand lives than to save yourself, and that is indeed heroic… but what about the people that still wanted you to be by their side until they grew old? To accompany you through thick and thin? Please, save yourself too…”
“What if I can’t save myself?” Aires mused.
Hale lifted his head then directly looked at Aires’ black and deep orbs, “Then I’ll save you.”
Aires smirked widely before motioning Hale to come closer. The latter tilted his head in confusion, he put the tray on the space of the nightstand then came closer to Aires, “Wha-“
Before Hale could even finish his words, he was pulled into a tight hug, “I’m counting on that, lovely brother.”
Hale hugged back, careful not to touch any of Aires’ injuries. He patted the larger male’s head, “Come on! We still have to fill your stomach!”
“You can’t help but not be angry at me, huh.”
“Choke on your words.” Hale pushed the spoon full of rice in Aires’ mouth. The male chewed his meal with eagerness, continued being fed like a baby.
“The least day of rest I can only tolerate is 1 week.” Hale suddenly spoke in the midst of feeding the still weak male.
“Hm. That can work. Thank you for considering. Oofmph-“
“Less talking, more eating.”
It was Day 3 when Aires regained some of his strength.
In the previous days, he was constantly being taken care of by Hale. Though there were short bickerings, it was at least making Aires’ day bearable. Who won’t go crazy being alone in the basement?
Aires even got to tease Hale of being his mother that he never had, making the smaller hit his head.
Day 5 when he recovered half of his strength. He can take long walks now and he did some of his routine, but he was caught by Hale. In the end, he was pinched on his ear before he was dragged inside.
He was frustrated that he couldn’t train in the morning in 5 days. The only thing he was allowed to do was regulating his breathing.
Day 7 when he was allowed to do his leg coordination, he was ecstatic when Hale agreed to his annoying pleads. His wounds were now healed, some left deep scars. But the burn on his back still needed a lot of attention, since it was a burn caused by the energy burst.
Afternoon in that day, the Grafton couple insisted to drive them to the High Order. Since the car of the couple didn’t have any portal function or any permission to enter the school, they had to take the long way. It was, apparently, a 20 hour drive.
Aires was worried since the disasters continued to occur around the proximity of the school’s barrier. He sent Zadie a message about his plans and the two might stay longer outside of the school grounds.
“Auntie, it will be better to not bother your workers from their work. Let us two drive there since there was a sudden urgent event that came up.”
“But, Sebby deary, you’re still injured and Haley still haven’t mastered driving… let Richard drive you there, please.”
“It’s really okay, my back is the only thing that is wrong with me. I can drive without leaning.”
“But-” Hale’s mother was stopped by her husband, “Let them, honey. We can’t really convinced this big boy now, he’s too adamant.” Hale’s father smiled smugly towards the smirking Aires.
“Go on now, boys! Have a nice trip!” Hale’s father shooed them.
Aires and Hale waved at the group as they departed. The two entered a car rental shop, Aires talked to the owner into buying a two seated gray coupe and he bought it twice the market price.
Hale could only look at Aires like he was a freak for paying a lot of money for just one car, “You’re quite ridiculous, ya know.”
“I have a reason for this.”
The owner ushered the two in the garage to take a closer look.
“It was just bought two weeks ago and was only rented once. The previous car was damaged for some unknown reason. I woke up and the car’s engine was busted. Looks like I have to buy another one of this baby, again.”
“Busted? How come?” Hale inquired.
“Dunno, really. I’m not a mechanic but the engine looked drained,” The owner threw the car keys at Aires, “Go on. Take this baby in an epic adventure.”
“Can I modify it here first?” Aires patted the car’s hood with a grin.
“What… this is already the latest model… there are a lot of functions already installed.”
“I know. There are still a lot that I can add, especially a valid code to enter the High Order and an approved portal navigation. I also need a protective barrier to at least reduce the impact by 30% to 50%. I would have to see the inside first before going for another wave of modification.”
The owner shook his head, “Aish. Whatever you want, just close the garage door when you leave,” Then he left to enter his shop.
Hale nudged Aires’ forearm, “I understood the portal and the code, but what’s with the barrier?”
“One thing’s for sure, we won’t be coming back in the High Order.”
