Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 16
“Will you tell me now?” Hale crossed his arms while looking at Aires who was now installing the code after he attached a small portal navigation on the headboard.
“Later.”
“14th.”
“What?”
“That’s the 14th time you said ‘Later’.”
“Later.”
“15th… Screw you!”
“There! Done! Come in now, Hale! I’ll tell you everything while we drive to the nearest territory,” Aires pointed at the passenger seat, honking the life out of the car.
Hale entered the car then smacked Aires’ head, “Shut it! It’s so annoying!” Aires only laughed before driving the car out of the garage, stopping once the coupe was out.
Then, an irritated owner suddenly showed up, “Shut the fck up!”
“Perfect timing! We’re too occupied to close the garage! Thank you~” Aires’ voice disappeared along with the roaring engine, the owner only saw a black dot on the road.
“Aish! That stupid rich kid!”
—–
“Tell me. Now.”
“Okay then. The original plan was to come back in the High Order then collect the people we’ll be journeying with. Zadie will deploy us where the problems were nigh, it was just like what happened 1 week ago. There were more and they are more devastating than what happened back in your place. I’ll send you the pictures.” Aires touched the screen, a beep came.
“Ailee, can you send the pictures in the energy font folder?”
A mechanical voice rang out,《Yes, master》
Aires’ lips broke out into the widest grin Hale had ever seen, “What on the world are you grinning for?”
“I’ve been dying to hear someone call me ‘Master’ and the installment was a success! Haha!”
“I’ll pleasure you, master.” Hale wriggled his eyebrows at the driving male.
“As much as I wanted to hear that, that’s the very last thing I wanted to hear from you. Oh wait, I never even thought about wanting it from you!”
“How cruel of you, Shebby.”
“Ew. Shut up.”
“Nah-” A sudden notification alert made Hale flinch on his seat, cursing why did he increased the volume in the first place. Oh… right… he increased Aires’ notification signal than the others. Of course, so he could know and pay attention to it first before the rest.
Hale opened his mail and saw the pictures Aires saw that day too; destruction, chaos, calamities, and deaths. He gaped when a specific picture came into view, it was a pool of blood with some remains of the human body parts, “Th-this… what the heck happened?”
“Zadie said that people will just burst out of the blue. They were trying to dispatch people to investigate it while us will be deployed to investigate what really is the cause, for instance, what happened just outside of the Grafton mansion.”
“We’re in a life and death situation…”
“So is the other team. Who knows if they might burst too at any second.”
“Their mission will be unpredictable… they won’t know if they will live or die in every second… on the other hand, us, would be able to predict and just like how you saved my life. But it will be bad for you too since you’re tasked to protect us,” Hale’s eyes wavered when he thought of what happened to Aires, because of his inability to sense an impending danger, Aires now had a scar that will forever be etched into his memory.
Aires glanced over at Hale, who was suddenly all quiet, “Hey, it’s not your fault, damn it. I am here to fill in the things that you lacked and you’re here to do the same too, and it will be more perfect if we were formed into a group. Heh, don’t worry! I personally picked who will we have throughout the mission.”
“But still… the feeling was terrible. How about this? You’ll train me to sense everything around me.”
“Sure, in return, teach me about your skill too,” Aires chirped.
Hale furrowed his brows, shifting his position to face the side of the driving Aires, “Ya know… ever since the incident, you’ve been surprisingly… changed…”
“How so?” Aires raised an eyebrow while giving glances at Hale.
“You never chirped or cooed… even purr! You’ve been incredibly nice to me in the week we were together! Tell me! Who are you?!”
“… who knows.”
“And and and… you were never that affectionate!! Where was the fear of being touched?! Wait… you’re perfectly fine when Kael touched you, does that mean I can touch you now?” Hale’s eyes glistened at the thought of finally slapping the taller’s back, pat his shoulder, hold his arm or even hugs!
Aires pursed his lips with an awkward stare, “If someone heard this, they’ll misunderstand.”
“Let them! It’s not like I care about their views!”
“Save me…” Aires groaned when he turned the wheel to the right. His eyes lightened when he caught sight of an old wall, a huge wooden gate with metal bindings, an enormous lion insignia at the center, and two bulky guards stood tall just before the gate.
The guards were dressed in coarse wool and heavy armors. Aires squinted his eyes before he turned the wheel to enter the forest, almost making Hale lose his seating, “What happened?! Aires?!”
“You do know that some territories doesn’t have any advanced technologies, this one was also left behind.” He stopped the car beside the riverbank, but far enough to not be discovered. Aires began to type on the screen of his Holowrist then the car camouflaged perfectly with the trees. Though he hoped that no one will discover the car if it rained. He thought of inventing some human repellant something… he quickly discarded the petty thought.
“Isn’t this the city that the previous batch oversees?”
Aires nodded, getting out of the car. The other male got out too, “Then that’s strange. In the previous batch, gate scanners were already present. Or is it about their funds? Or maybe they don’t want to share incredible news of their new gadgets?”
“We’ll find out once we entered the place. Can you see what grade is it?”
“It’s… a grade 2 city. The other side of the wall has been just newly built, probably around 6 months ago since it was upgraded to grade 2.”
“Great then. Did you prepare a lot of money this time?”
Hale side eyed the taller male, murmuring, “What’s great about it…”
Aires chose to ignore the suspicion, “We’ll need a lot of money if we’re trying to enter that city. They might even require something just to visit a city.”
Hale’s eyes suddenly grew wide when he took a good look at the wall, there were complex engravings, so little that it cannot be seen unless one used a magnifying glass. In Hale’s case, he had a great ‘eye of observation’ that enabled him to see something that a normal eye couldn’t see, “I take it back, this is not a grade 2 city, it’s a grade 5 city.”
“Hoh. Interesting…” Aires rubbed his makeshift beard while smirking, “Then, how about the wall you observed?”
“There are small engravings on it. The new side of the wall was probably being nourished by it or something of the sort. The wall might have it’s own healing property…”
“This territory did well. Now, what are we waiting for? Let’s enter!”
