Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 14
“Lord Aires is resting and well. Eat this first before you visit him,” The maid gave Hale a tray full of food; rice, main dish, side dish, soup, and water with a few medicines at the side.
“Can… can I see him first?”
The maid felt conflicted, the young master still haven’t eaten anything since he woke up early in the morning. Then a brilliant idea dawned upon her, “Before Lord Aires lost consciousness while being treated, he said to make sure you’ll eat upon waking up.”
Surprisingly, this made the young master ate his food dutifully, without leaving even a grain of rice. He drank every drop of water before standing up.
Knowing what the maid’s young master will do, she used the same trick again, “Young Master, you just ate. Please, do not run. Lord Aires will be mad if he heard you ran after eating.”
This made Hale stop in his tracks and mumbled, “I’m not a kid…”
He straightened his posture before walking down into the basement, too eager to see Aires.
When he reached the door leading down to the basement, he saw the door was opened that seemed so inviting to Hale. He hurried down the stairs and saw Aires sleeping with his cheek pressed down on the soft mattress of the bed, dressed in bandages.
Hale slowly worked his way towards the sleeping Aires. His gaze softened when he saw the state the ripped man was in, there was even blood in the bandages. He carefully traced the bandages’ lines, admiring how it covered Aires’ firm and broad back.
He thought that the scars he obtained, specially the burn, was the mark that etched forever on his body. The very symbol that represented the care, concern, and maybe love… for Hale.
He sat on the stool, next to the bed, as he observed Aires’ countenance; how his back raised then fell while breathing, the firm cheeks squished on the bed, his jawline was sharp and defined, his tall and somewhat pointed but round nose, his thick eyelashes, his beauty spot on his right temple, how his hair fell sideways and covered his brows, and his lips…
How amazing would it be if everything finally fell in an order he desired to be with this man. If he didn’t find anything about any tinctures or technologies to awaken his dormant female pheromones, he might give up…
What if his feelings were so deep by then that it would be impossible to give up? He might not…
He reached out then caressed Aires’ face, sighing heavily.
“Hey…” A deep and raspy voice called out, making the sitting male flinched out of his seat.
“Uh… hey… how are you feeling, lovely… brother?” Hale tried to calm his erratic heart. Truly, hearing the voice of Aires after waking up was so heavenly good!
“I’m fine…” He grunted when he tried to fix his stiff body. Since he stayed in that position for almost 4 hours, so numb, “How about you? You’re… not hurt anywhere, right?”
“I’m not. Thank you for saving me… this incident suddenly made me want to pay you back in full now. Though I was planning on paying you back with my hard earned money…”
“Don’t worry about that… for now. I’ll wait for your hard earned money, but be careful though… I might increase the percentage.” He cackled then groaned when he felt a sting in his arms.
Hale laughed while pointing at the injuries of Aires, “Your body clearly didn’t want to increase the percentage! Hahaha!!”
“Hey… I just shifted because it’s uncomfortable. You’re pushing your luck.”
“Let’s believe that for now,” Hale scoffed.
“Believe whatever you want… ah, can you send a message to the Council President to inform her of this incident? We’ll explain everything to her once I’m recovered.”
“What’s your estimation?”
“Around 5 days.”
“No. 2 weeks. You’ll rest for 2 weeks.”
“That’s long. We can’t delay the mission in 2 weeks. We don’t know what will happen in the future.”
“I can’t risk your health just because of the stupid mission!” Hale realized what he just said and wanted to take it back, but it was already too late.
“Did you just… called a calamity as stupid?! People could’ve died! You! Could’ve died back there! I wouldn’t be able to stand it! That someone you’re close with suddenly died!”
“What about me?! You could’ve died back then! I don’t want to risk your life as it is!! I thought I lost you! That fcking hurts, ya know?! Why can’t you understand, fcker!!?”
“Other people’s lives are more important than my life.”
“You’re more important than my life! I don’t want you to die! You promised me that you’ll protect me and cherish me as long we have our own family and grandchildren!”
“No! You fcker!”
With a growl, Hale left the basement while fuming red. Aires was dumbfounded with the sudden outburst of Hale, he never saw the smaller guy this angry before. He clicked his tongue in irritation as he forced himself to calm down and think the matter thoroughly.
He sighed heavily, he should talk to Hale if the smaller male came back. It was even a mystery to him why he snapped with something so petty.
But the feeling of seeing Hale, slowly being engulfed by that terrifying outburst of energy, his heart stopped even for a moment. Incredibly scared to lose his childhood friend. It was fortunate that the will to save Hale was stronger, his wounds may leave a scar but it would be a reward to him and to remember this day, the day that he almost lost the most important person in his life.
He took an oath to protect Hale Grafton with his life which he would never say to him.
Moments later, two doctors arrived to redress his wounds. The maids arrived later to bring him food, he slowly pushed himself to sit on the bed. Damn, his whole body was spent in just that.
