I am the crown prince? - Chapter 22
“Dear Lin Lan, my dear brother informed his majesty about our interaction. And the emperor now is fuming in anger, trying to find your head. I am sorry about how I treated you, as I needed to put an act and make you hate me. When my father heard, he wanted to send me away from you, which he did. Take the money and run away from the kingdom. We will meet again someday, and when that day comes, I hope you would change your ways of chasing power. The only thing I wish from you is to ask the sky for forgiveness.
I knew all along that you lied to me. But the only thing I wanted was to open your eyes. You turned from the innocent girl I knew to who you are now, all because he used you. He betrayed you and betrayed me too.
I am sorry to inform you that your family was massacred that day when the first prince rescued you, I was there at that time. I didn’t tell you because I was afraid of your reaction, and the first prince told me not to as well.
Yours sincerely, Zheng Lu,” Lin Lan read through the letter aloud under the guard’s watchful eyes, she didn’t know how to react at that moment. Her family members were dead and apparently for a long time.
Lin Lan was so mad at that moment. She clenched her hands around the letter and tore it piece by piece. Should she feel sad over her dead family? Or laugh for being so stupid for plotting against a kind prince. She didn’t know which one to pick and burst into tears while laughing like a maniac.
The guard wondered if she lost it. She kept laughing aloud, her voice echoing around the empty room, and then everything turned quiet.
In her fit of rage, she rushed outside the room while the guard was hot on her tail. She got dragged by the guards, and she didn’t even try to resist. She didn’t want to get discovered, and at the same time, she was protecting the first prince. But he awarded her by leaving her rotted there. She tried to find a way out, but she failed in her attempts. What made it weird, the guards were high skilled assassins as well, she has felt it in their aura.
“Miss Lin Lan, wait!” The guard called out, making her halt on her spot.
“What else do you need?” she asked bitterly.
“His Highness ordered me to escort you to safety,” he blurted out.
“He did? Why?” she asked her voice broken.
“He didn’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
“But, I want to face the first prince,” she told him her plans without a blink of an eye. If the crown prince trusted this guy, then she would have to as well. And If she died on the way, at least she will die with style.
“Follow me,” he told her, going in another direction.
They went into a secret hall which led to different places inside the palace; he halted near a door and pushed the rock which made a door to appear.
On the other side of the room, the prince laid on the ground his hand was bleeding, and the room was in a mess. When he heard a noise, he searched for the source in alarm.
Lin Lan went in, and the guard kept waiting on the other side.
“Lin Lan!” the first prince called in surprise. She looked around the room then at him and his bleeding hand. She felt satisfied when she spotted his injured hand.
“How did you come here?” he asked, staring at the door which he never thought existed before and then at her. For a moment, he felt afraid when his gaze met hers.
“When were you going to tell me?” she asked.
“Tell you what?” he asked in a bored tone.
“About my family,” she stated.
“Well, I told you I would tell you about where I sent them at the right time. The conditions were for the young prince to die, and for me to become the crown prince. Nothing happened from the above, so the deal is off,” he told her.
“You never told m that my family members were dead,” she blurted out.
“Oh, so you know about that! Huh!” he yelled and rushed to a nearby sword to finish her off. She didn’t feel afraid of death, but she needed to take revenge. Swiftly, she ran his way, and with a struck, she pushed his hand away from the sword and hit his pressure point.
“I won’t kill you! I will count the days till you see death coming your way from your own brother, the crown prince! To see your despair, to feel the pain of every person you betrayed,” she said her final words and spat on his face then left.
Behind the secret closed doors, she took a deep breath.
“Let’s go now!”
The guard escorted her outside to the woods and left her there.
That night the prince was found immobilized by his mother, who called for someone to bring a doctor. She felt worried when she thought it might be a disease.
The doctor came; he found out that nothing was wrong with the first prince. But he was hit on a pressure point, making him immobilized, and he would be fine after a while. He cleaned his injured hand and bandaged it while the maids took care of cleaning the room.
When the prince gained the ability to move and talk, the first thing he spat was, “that wench!”
He gathered guards and looked in every corner. He tried to find someone who knew the secret passages. He even promised whoever can tell him a lot of gold. But no one told him what he wanted to know. When he found nothing, he retreated for the night.
Inside the cottage, Zhen Lu Thought that it was the night where Lin Lan would receive her freedom and his letter; to be honest, he wanted to have Lin Lan on his side when things turn more difficult. Things will get heated from now on, and he needed an alley or a friend to stand by his side. His memories made him feel disgusted over what she had done, but everyone needed a chance. He lied about some things inside the letter, but those things would remain as a secret.
