Chapter 13: Faint
Gu Yubai collapsed as he stepped out of the gates.
“Gu Shao.” Qin Yue, who was waiting at the door stepped forward to hold him. His body temperature was higher than normal.
“Nothing.” Gu Yubai waved him away. He wanted to leave immediately.
Qin Yue shouldered the weight of Gu Yubai’s crumbling body. He couldn’t understand why this man, who was sick last night, would rush immediately after receiving a message from her. He disregarded his health.
He looked uneasy when they left. The fever which had gone down that morning came back with a vengeance. Even if his body was made of iron, it wouldn’t withstand such carelessness.
Gu Yubai hadn’t made past two steps from Paradise when he fainted. It was fortunate that Qin Yue caught him on time.
When Lin Meng came out she saw Qin Yue supporting Gu Yubai. He was unconscious. She hesitated before she went over.
Lin Meng pointed to Gu Yubai to ask how he had fainted. Qin Yue’s eyes flickered, realizing that she could not speak.
“Gu Shao had a high fever.”
Lin Meng stepped forward to help Qin Yue hold Gu Yubai up.
His body was scorching. Through the thick material of the suit, she could feel the scorching heat of his feverish body.
How could it be so high?
The sensation of heat on touching his hand in the restaurant had not been an illusion.
Despite their combined efforts, it was hard for them to carry the bulky man to the car. After getting him inside the car, Lin Meng sat on the other side and let Gu Yubai rest his head on her lap. She placed her hand on his forehead to check his fever. Gu Yubai reached out grabbed her hand and clutched it tightly to his chest.
Her relatively cold hands seemed to ease the heat. His frown slowly disappeared.
She had complicated feelings in her heart. With such a high fever, why would he come to meet me? This should stop.
She made a mistake last time and she couldn’t afford another one.
It was a moment of attraction, not love.
When they arrived at the hospital, Qin Yue got off the car and helped Gu Yubai. The doctors and nurses who waited at the hospital entrance rushed forward. The group placed Gu Yubai on a stretcher and entered the hospital.
He just had a fever, yet so many people needed to help move him? In her recollection, Gu Yubai’s health had been excellent. A small cold or fever was a rare occurrence.
She did not care to keep track of them.
The entire floor dedicated to the VIP ward had two or three rooms. They were reserved for exclusive members. There were very few people on the floor, the corridor was so empty that you could hear your own footsteps. Lin Meng saw Qin Yue standing in the distance. He was shaking with worry. She ran to see what made him anxious.
She stood, stunned for a second watching the scene inside. Her gaze was that of uneasiness.
