Fierce Coffin - Chapter 4
After returning home, Jiajia did not stand and walk, but instead kept crawling on the ground. We couldn’t say anything. At night, I heard my wife scream from outside the room. I rushed out to see my wife standing at the bathroom door. Jiajia had gotten onto a footstool. With an eerie smile on her face, her small hands proceeded to apply makeup on her face, from time to time, she glanced at the mirror, eyes turning crescent-shaped in satisfaction.
My wife clutched me tightly and said, “Jiajia must have fallen ill after getting contaminated! Xiao Yuni, think of a way to make her better!”
I comforted her, “Wife, don’t think too much. Our child is smart now. Kids these days watch TV a lot. She’s probably copying an actress!”
She shook her head, saying, “You may not have noticed. Last night, I discovered that Jiajia has begun to develop!”
“Develop? Wife, what do you mean?”
My wife pointed to her chest and said, “Jiajia is starting to grow here. Is it because she ate hormone-rich food in excess? But I pay attention to her diet!”
I stayed silent in reply. Jiajia was only three years old. How can she possibly develop?
I glanced at Jiajia again, who turned to look at me with a smile, that sent a shiver down my spine. My breath hitched.
Jiajia got down from the stool at this. When she started to walk, the clear tinkling of bells sounded throughout the room. I found that each of her hands were clasping a small bell. These bells were picked from the coffin. I was sure I had them tucked inside the drawer of the computer desk. I didn’t know how Jiajia got her hands on them.
Jiajia walked past us into her bedroom, and then closed the door with a thud.
My wife asked me at this time: “Xiao Yun, what happened to Jiajia? I’m scared.”
She fell in my arms and burst into tears.
Both of us were frightened. She said that I should find a priest to solve it. As soon as the words fell from her mouth, the bedroom door opened. Jiajia stepped in front of her mom, and stared at her fiercely. My wife squatted, looked at Jiajia and said, “Jiajia, what’s wrong?”
Jiajia’s face was almost twisted, her eyebrows scrunched up in an angry manner. She gritted her teeth and said, “I’ll let you find a Taoist!”
She reached out and her fingers curled around my wife’s neck, tightening her hold. My wife even grabbed Jiajia’s neck in reflex immediately, but no matter how much she tried, she could not get herself free! How could a child have such great strength? Seeing that my wife was being choked like that, I almost lost my senses. In a hurry, I ran into the kitchen and took out a rolling pin. I wanted to smash it against Jiajia’s head, but then, how much strength should I use?
My wife shook her head while struggling. I knew what my wife meant. She was preventing me from doing anything. But I couldn’t just watch my wife being strangled to death. Instead, I smashed it hard against Jiajia’s arm. I managed to hit her, and even heard a gurgling sound, but her arm was not broken at all. Jiajia did not even yell, her grip ever so tight.
I was anxious and shouted, “Who the hell are you? Leave my daughter’s body quickly.”
I slammed Jiajia’s arm desperately, and the rolling pin broke with a snap. Now I understood what the doctor said about her abnormal bone density. What had happened to my daughter? At this moment I remembered the line “Look for a priest.” from my wife. Did Jiajia get angry because of this?
I anxiously shouted, “Jiajia, we won’t look for Taoist priests, so let go of mom!”
Jiajia suddenly stopped like a machine that had been switched off. My wife gasped as the hand choking her pulled away. She winked at me and said, “Go back to your hometown to see your parents. Dad called today and said the medicine stock is over. I want you to send some more.”
I knew what my wife meant. She asked me to return to my hometown and ask my parents for help. Lot of things happen in the countryside. They would find an answer.
Sure enough, Jiajia didn’t object, but just said, “Don’t go out tonight. The person from above will come back for his shoes. Don’t block his way!”
My wife said at this time: “Xiao Yun, I will look after Jiajia, you go rest, you need it!”
I went online immediately. I actually found a guy on the Internet who was known as the master of catching ghosts. I added his QQ number and told him that my family member might be haunted. He asked me to be specific. I haven’t seen any ghost, so it was impossible to tell him in detail. I asked him to meet me.
I informed him about our community name, but didn’t tell him the specific number of the building and or unit. I didn’t want to bring a stranger home. And at night, no one could enter our community. We made an appointment. He arrived at the gate of the community and I went to pick him up.
It took him twenty minutes.
He had a lean figure and wore a Tang suit, trousers, and sneakers. He was empty-handed. I said, “Master, what about the magic weapon?”
He looked about twenty-five years old – too young! He was pretty good-looking, but those eyes looked sly, like a liar’s. I decided to give up, feeling he was unreliable. So I pulled out my wallet and planned to give him a hundred dollars, since I couldn’t let him come here for nothing.
Unexpectedly, he said mysteriously, “You did run into an evil spirit, that too, a female ghost.”
He stared at my face, extended a finger and prodded it, saying, “You have been stamped, you can’t run away in this life, you can’t run away in the next life, she will not let it go until after the ninth life. Bless you. This female ghost is too powerful. This is your fate! I can’t control it.”
Without waiting for me to talk, he turned away to leave. This time I grabbed his arm and said, “Master, you can’t leave. What should I do if you leave?”
The place where he touched my face was exactly where Jiajia kissed me. I didn’t feel right at the time. I didn’t expect that this master would pinpoint such a spot immediately. It seemed that he had the real ability.
He shook his head helplessly and said, “Who made me seem good-hearted? I can only make things difficult.”
I entered the community with him, and as soon as I reached the door, he stopped suddenly. He looked up and said, “Someone has just died. I sense the anger in the air, too heavy.”
I was even more convinced now, he had real skills.
I said, “Yeah, the old man upstairs died.”
Big-back shook his head and smiled, “The soul hasn’t ended its time yet, it’s holding such a big grudge!”
Since he had a large back, I decided to call him Big-back.
I swiped the access card. After entering, Big-Back was about to enter the elevator. I grabbed him and said, “Don’t take the elevator, let’s go up the stairs. I never use this elevator, for fear that the elevator would break and the whole contraption would become our coffin.”
“Sir, don’t scare me. With so many elevators and so many people in the country, everyone is going by their daily lives as usual. How can it just ‘become a coffin’?”
I was about to walk in when I suddenly felt a cold air brush past me, making me flinch. The temperature dropped significantly. Goosebumps rose on my skin.
Big-back said: “Let’s go, we should take the stairs!”
I asked, “Master, how did it get so cold just now?”
“Don’t worry about it, worry about your safety and state right now!” Big Back said after sweeping his fingers through his hair, it seemed that he felt less stressed after stroking his hair. Then he said to himself, “I don’t have any shoes on, so there must be something wrong.”
This sentence made me freeze. I remembered the moment Jiajia said that the old man upstairs would come back to pick up shoes tonight. I hadn’t told anyone about it, yet this guy somehow could tell!
I didn’t dare to take the elevator, so I climbed up to the 11th floor with the master, and as soon as I reached the 11th floor, the light in the stairwell went out. I yelled out instinctively. Not only the lights on the 11th floor were off, but the ones below were also off. Only the lights on the 12th floor were on.
I could only take out my mobile phone and turn on the flashlight function to find the fire door, but I found that the fire door was gone. In its place was a wall. I said, “Master, what’s going on?”
Big-Back said: “It’s pointless, this is a ghost hitting on the wall. We can’t go out.”
