Daddy is the Big Boss - Chapter 35
Chapter 35 – Paintings
While Old man Shan and Lu Ji were talking, Chen Daiyu was on her way to her room to look more into the packet Lu Ji gave her but she was interrupted by Shan Yijun who took her to his room to play videogames.Â
This was the first time that Chen Daiyu had come into his room since they had always played video games in the TV room. She immediately looked around and took everything in.Â
The room was almost as big as hers, but had more technology. Besides his study desk and tv corner, his room was quite organized.
She was surprised by a set of paintings that stood out compared to the rest of the decoration.
“What are these paintings?”Â
Shan Yijun’s eyes immediately lit up and raised his nose to the heavens. He started talking about how they were painted by his mother before she died. They were for a gift she was making him but she was never able to finish them so he decided to hang them up in his room to treasure them.
He pointed at the first one, which was a depiction of the garden that was visible from her room. “This one, we painted in your room 3 years ago,” he smiled lightly, but his eyes were sorrowful, “dad and i actually accompanied her while she was painting them.”Â
Chen Daiyu looked back between him and the paintings, remembering the weird feeling she had about that hill a few days ago.
At a glance, the paintings were just that, paintings, but Chen Daiyu could not help but feel there was something more to them.
“Are they arranged by the order they were painted in?” She asked.
“Yes, this is the first one, the hill just in front of your room. Mom wasn’t a painter, she just suddenly had the urge to paint when i was younger. I’m not sure I understand them but I think these are the best paintings in the world… they’re priceless. Actually the last one wasn’t painted by mom at all, obviously, since it’s a family portrait. But she got it done around the same time.”Â
Chen Daiyu suddenly felt envious but realized she didn’t need to. Although she didn’t have a mother, having a father like Chen Feng was already a blessing. They had not interacted that much but she knew he cared a lot. Plus after being an orphan in her past life she knew having someone that cared about her that she could consider family was a blessing.
Chen Daiyu gave the paintings a second look and was surprised, so surprised that she almost couldn’t hide her expression in time, but Shan Yijun was too distracted by the paintings to notice her changes.
She started at the paintings one by one again, memorizing each and every detail.
Thinking that she was mesmerized by the painting’s beauty, Shan Yijun almost couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear.
“Aren’t they breath-taking?”Â
Chen Daiyu smiled and nodded. She pointed at a painting of a single red bud.
“Where was this one painted?”
Shan Yijun looked and immediately said, “it was behind the hills,” he looked at Chen Daiyu, “I called it the Never Blooming.”
Shan Yijun explained that, just as its given name, the bud has never bloomed for as long as he could remember. He didn’t know if it was actually alive, nor what kind of flower it was and wanted to show it to his cousin.
“Okay! Let’s explore the back of the hill too,” Chen Daiyu agreed.
Thus the two went to the man-made hill.
In Old Man Shan’s office…
“Uncle, I have to return now” Lu Ji slightly bowed respectfully before leaving.
He went to the living room, but failed to see the children. He called a maid passing by and asked where they were.
“S-sir, the children went behind hills f-few minutes ago,” the young maid couldn’t help but blush at the close interaction with Old Man Shan’s nephew.
“Alright, thanks” Lu Ji nodded at the maid and smiled. He walked away afterwards.
Another maid came and nudged her co-worker.Â
“Hmm~ you’re new aren’t you? Is this the first time you’ve seen young master Lu?” The maid teased.
The first maid didn’t shy out and they kept teasing each other while doing their respective duties.
On the other side, Chen Daiyu and Shan Yijun were checking the flower. It had been almost a year since Shan Yijun’s mother’s passing but the painting was even painted way before that.
Which meant it had been 2-3 years and it still hadn’t bloomed.
“This flower is so weird,” Shan Yijun frowned and reached out trying to poke the flower.
Chen Daiyu held his wrist to stop him. Shan Yijun stared at her confusedly.
“You see…” Chen Daiyu sweated and leaned down to whisper something into Shan Yijun’s ear.
“Oh it’s like that!” As if enlightened, he obediently nodded and dropped his hand.
“Boo!” Lu Ji tried to surprise them, but they only turned their head around and stared at him; one was expressionless while the other had a slight smile.
“…” they were just like their parents.
