Daddy is the Big Boss - Chapter 36
Chapter 36 – Clues
Chen Daiyu was now laying down in bed staring at the ceiling. She couldn’t stop thinking about Shan Yijun’s paintings.
She hoped she was overthinking, but deep down she knew she wasn’t.
There had always been something off about the hill that was visible from her room. The paintings by Shan Yijun’s mom and the further look at the flower made her most suspicious.
She felt guilty about looking more into it. Whatever was there was probably a gift for Shan Yijun.
The only reason she could think that they had not found it yet was that: the clues were not done, the gift that wasn’t ready before his mom died, or they had been too wrapped up in grief to see everything in front of them.
She didn’t want to mess with that, however, she was sure that there was something in there to help her with her current situation, she could use it to help the Shan family.
There were three finished paintings in Shan Yijun’s room. A painting of the hill, the ‘flower, and the family one.
She could only assume there were going to be more.
So she asked some of the staff about the paintings and she was led to the attic, where there was a surprising amount of unfinished paintings. All of them were beautiful scenery in their garden. Where some boulders, trees, and lakes stood out specifically, which she imagined were part of the other unfinished plans.
She remembered how her grandfather told her Shan Yijun’s mom specifically asked for that hill to be made.
All of this added up to something suspicious happening there.
She decisively got out of bed, knowing that if she didn’t go she would not be able to sleep.
Sneaking through the back door onto the garden, Chen Daiyu took out a small flashlight so she could see and headed towards the back of the hill.
There were a few of ‘the Never Blooms’ around the garden, but she looked at the one that was the closest to the hill and analysed it.
After a few minutes, she moved to pull one of the leaves out, although barely visible, it was different from the rest of the leaves.
Not too surprisingly, it was a plug and the flower magically bloomed. At the same time there was a rumble behind her.
Before moving on, she touched the flower carefully again, it looked and felt so real. But it was fake attached to some sort of mechanism. She looked at the ‘leaf’ and found that the stem had a weird shape, so she decided to take it with her.
Looking around there was nothing blatantly out of place.
Thinking back on the paintings she saw, Chen Daiyu looked around for such objects. Closest to her was a weirdly big rock by a tree.
She tried lifting it, tried moving it, and patted it. She tried anything she could think of and nothing happened.
Feeling frustrated she kept looking around and nitpicking anything that could be possibly out of place.
After a few futile minutes she sat down by the boulder in frustration.
But she sat on something sharp she had not seen.
Getting up and looking down, she saw another tiny rock, still frustrated from her previous search, she tried kicking it. But it didn’t move. She froze and suddenly had a ridiculous thought, was she so weak that she couldn’t even kick a pebble the size of her fist?
Those thoughts soon disappeared, she tried moving it around excitedly. The rock did not move at all. She overly fixated on it and felt around it. There was a slight groove on it. She tried twisting it and the top part of it came off to show a weirdly shaped hole.
Thinking back on the leave, she took it out and tried putting it in and twisting it.
When she did that, the tree that the boulder was by opened a little door.
She could see a few stairs going down the tree in a spiral pattern before it blacked out due to darkness.
She was about to step in when she felt guilty about what she was doing again.
This was probably a gift for her cousin. A gift from his dead mother, and whatever was down there he had no idea about.
She could not possibly get away with exploring it without him.
But then again, a little peak wouldn’t hurt. She could eventually guide him through the clues to help him discover whatever is through there.
Having appeased her guilt, she stepped into the door and was surprised by the automatic lights that lit up.
She felt amazed by the effort that was put into this and kept going down the stairs.
