Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 1
“Yo! Aires! How ya doing, brother?” A tall, lean bodied man slapped the back of the taller male, though being 6’3, the one called Aires, 6’7.
The called out male turned his head as he diverted his attention from his book and glared at the lean man, “What do you want, Hale?”
“Woah! Woah! Brother, drop the glare. I can’t have you greeting me like that in the morning when you have a spar this afternoon. And hey! I was just concerned!” Hale raised his hands in submission from the taller male. He then tapped Aires’ shoulder who groaned from the contact.
“Hale, as much as I appreciated your concern, can you not touch me?” Aires closed his book when Hale withdrew his hand from his shoulder.
“Okay, Hale, what do you want?”
“Well… ya know… as your very, only, lonely friend-“
“Hale,” Aires growled.
“Okay, fine! I have a date this afternoon… and ya know…” Hale pursed his lips as he cradled his body back and forth.
Aires pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed with exasperation when he saw his friend’s behavior.
“Hale, you want to borrow my fcking money and stand-in in your council meeting later. Goddammit, Hale. How many times did this happen already? How did you get selected as the vice president of the High Order council?”
“Says the guy who got selected as the Head Administrator’s advisor and rejected it! You fcking rejected the opportunity of once in a million years!
“Hale Grafton, the point is that you have the responsibility as a vice fcking president while I’m just an ordinary student.”
“Sebastian Aires, you’re the most respected person here in the entire school! Of course they would be grateful when I presented the ‘unreachable’ Aires into their council meeting!” Hale exaggerated his hand’s actions as he convinced his friend to replace his seat in the meeting to be able to go to his long-awaited date.
Aires sighed at his friend’s desperate pleads, “Are you that eager to skip your responsibility to have a date with your… what was it? Long lost childhood sweetheart?”
“Is it that obvious?” Hale asked with innocent confusion.
“Fck. Fine, I’ll do it. Give my best regards to Mirabella.” Aires turned his heels as he walked towards his class, but he felt a sudden grasp on his arm. Once again, he glared towards Hale.
Hale raised his hands, smiling shyly. “My friend brother, the money?”
Aires’ face twitched, “How much do you want?”
“Uhm… this poor brother wanted 20 Grand…?”
The taller male’s usually empty eyes were shot open as he stared at his outrageous friend, deciding whether he would just abandon this friend and walk off.
“Hale, 20 Grand in just a date?”
“Hey! I wanted the date to be special! Mirabella just came back from her long journey, to right here, in my arms! Aires, you know how long I’ve waited for her! I was 7 when I got separated from her and it’s been twelve years since!”
“Stop. Okay! Just stop!” Aires retrieved his bloated leather wallet from his bag that contained a lot of bills, organized according to their values. Hale’s eyes glittered on how rich his friend was, his heart swelled with pride knowing that the top student was his friend.
Aires pulled out 20 bills and handed it over to his drooling friend. He rolled his eyes then slapped the money on his face, “Wake up, fcker. Take this before I change my mind.”
Pulling out of his trance, Hale happily received the money from his loaded friend, “I’ll pay you back in 2% interest! I love you, brother!!”
Aires shivered in disgust, his spine grew cold as he rubbed his arms. As if trying to get rid of a filthy thing from his skin, “Fck! Fcker! Agh! What the fck!”
“Hey… I’m offended…” Hale clasped his hand on his heart as he looked hurt.
“Gah!” Aires glared at Hale, “You know what, pay your previous borrowed money in 5%”
“Whaa! I can’t pay the 70 grand by myself! Plus the 5% interest… that’s torture! Wait… 70 and 20 Grand to 7% interest… what in the actual fck?! That’s more expensive!”
Aires scoffed, he patted the book on his right shoulder as he inserted his left hand in his pocket, “Be grateful. I usually demand a 50%.”
With that, he left the bickering friend as he entered his solo class. The classroom was not that huge. It had a simple designed wall with two pairs of tables and chairs. The sun peeked through the glass windows at the side of the room. It looked like a detention room but Aires liked it very much.
He sat on the chair as he slung his backpack at the side of the table. He retrieved his priced laptop from his bag, he was 30 minutes early anyway. Why not spend time being productive when he can’t even do anything in the meantime?
Aires watched as the line rose and drop in the graph. He checked more from the others and waited for the news. He typed something then sent it to the other end before switching to finish the code he started yesterday night.
