To make He Yu regret - chapter 29
In the afternoon. The children voted in the competition and selected the first place in the school.
“Let us congratulate, He Yu.” After reading the name of the final winner, the teacher led the students to applaud him. In the applause, He Yu stepped onto the podium. Among the children, Jiang Mingzhen was undoubtedly the one who clapped the hardest. The teacher handed the red backgrounded gold rim award to He Yu. He raised it with both hands and bowed to everyone.
On the certificate, the big letters read, “He Yu, you performed well in this campus drawing exhibition ‘My Friend’. You won first place and was named, “Future Little painter”. This certificate is hereby issued for encouragement.”
“Little painter of the future!” Jiang Mingzhen was more excited than the winner, and took the lead to shout in the audience.
“He Yu is the little painter of the future!” The applauding children followed her and shouted. He Yu blushed when they praised him, put away the certificate, and did not look at him again.
His drawings would be displayed in the ‘Window of Culture’ on campus for three months. The name ‘He Yu’, had made it into the limelight recently. No one called him by his old nickname, and a very few people remembered that they made fun of him as Jiang Mingzhen’s dog. During the period when Jiang Mingzhen and He Yu weren’t talking, Xu Meiyin not only asked Jiang Mingzhen, “Why don’t you apologize to He Yu a few more times?” Aunt Fan also asked He Yu not to be so narrow-minded and forgive Miss Zhen for her unintentional mistake.
The reason He Yu was unwilling to forgive was not only because she broke his marker. He wanted to draw a clear line with her. He couldn’t forget Jiang Mingzhen’s support when others said he was a “Pug”.
He played with her and shared his own things with her, initially because she was the young lady at home and he wanted to please her. But later, he took the initiative to play with her and took her out to buy dried sweet potatoes, which had nothing to do with flattering. He regarded her as a…friend. If she didn’t treat him as a friend, He Yu thought he definitely didn’t want to be Jiang Mingzhen’s dog.
“Jiang Mingzhen, what did you draw?” After the selection of first place, the art teacher sent everyone’s drawing assignments, and Jiang Mingzhen’s drawing attracted everyone’s attention.
“Pile of yellow, my god, it’s disgusting!”
Jiang Mingzhen pounced on her drawing, blocking the curiosity of the people around her.
“I saw it!” The kid at back pulled out the drawing from Jiang Mingzhen’s squeaky nest.
“She drew it, a little boy pooping happily.”
“Hahahahaha.” Laughter broke out all around. Jiang Mingzhen jumped up in embarrassment, grabbed the boy’s own drawing, rubbed it into a ball, and threw it into the trash can at the back of the classroom.
“Jiang Mingzhen’s friend is a poop boy!” Seeing that she was really angry, the kid continued to make funny faces to tease her.
“You try to say one more sentence?” She had a fierce look and showed her fist at him.
“Oh, I dare not…” The kid pretended to beg for mercy. While Jiang Mingzhen was relaxed, he found the gap, ran out of the classroom, and yelled as he ran, “Jiang Mingzhen has a poop! Poop friend! Hurry up, everyone! Come and see!”
Jiang Mingzhen clenched her fists angrily and ran after him. In the end, the drawing wasn’t taken back by her. On the paper with high mountains she drew with an orange-yellow marker, and the smiling boy with short hair, was crumpled into a dirty paper ball. It lay quietly in the trash corner, completely forgotten. Thanks to Jiang Mingzhen’s messy drawing skills, only a few people in this world could see that she didn’t draw a little boy who was happily pooping. She drew her friend, He Yu, who was sitting on the sweet potato mountain with a smile on his face.
He Yu was the student on cleaning duty that day. After finishing classroom cleaning, he turned off the lights and walked alone on the way from school. He took out the honey cake that Jiang MIngzhen gave, from his pocket and ate it in small bites.
