To make He Yu regret - chapter 26
‘My Friend’, was the theme for the drawing competition, the child who gets the first place would get a certificate from the school. While choosing the first price, the teachers encountered a problem. “Which one do you think is better?”
They fell into contemplation at the two drawings that were placed separately on the table. One was by Zhang Liu from Class 3. The drawing was very nice and the lines were very good. It was a scene of two children playing at home. The other one was from He Yu from Class 1.
The colors of the drawing were strong, and the first thing that caught the eye was a circle filled. In the circle there was a face that looked like a smile but wasn’t a smile. It was piled in colorful triangles and ellipses, loomed. On the outside of the circle, a pair of long bandage-like hands were tightly wrapped.
Picking up He Yu’s drawing, the art teacher said, “This drawing is very special. I saw the childrens’ drawings all afternoon, but this one is the only one that impressed me.”
“Is it because of the colors?”
“Well,” other teachers said, “Besides, his composition and creativity are also very intriguing.”
“What is this drawing though?”
“Well, it should be an expression of the special bond that friendship had given him? Those long hands seem to describe a kind of hug. Isn’t the so-called friend, the one who could hug all your ugly sides?”
“I think he drew his inner self. He hid his sad emotions and was embraced by a friend.” Someone laughed and said, “Don’t over-interpret, aren’t you looking at a drawing by a six-year-old kid?”
So the teachers asked him, “Then what do you think of this drawing?”
“I couldn’t tell what he had drawn. It is true that the color matching and the pictures are pretty good, but…” He held up the drawing by Zhang Liu and said, “For the first place, I think it’s easier to understand what to select, and other children will recognize this too.”
“That’s not necessarily true. You have an adult’s gaze, how can you represent the aesthetics of children, saying that they would like that one more.” There was no agreement among the teachers to choose the first place. After they discussed, they finally decided to hold a poll in the school for the children to vote.
The next day. Jiang Mingzhen, who came to the school early, saw her deskmate who was looking at Zhang Liu and He Yu’s drawings.
“Why did the teacher think his drawing is good?” The deskmate looked at He Yu’s drawings at a loss.
“The drawing is very vivid.” Jiang Mingzhen abruptly found out the shadow of her face from the colorful triangular ellipses and colored ribbons, although she didn’t understand why He Yu drew her so round.
“I am the person in the drawing.” She patted her face.
“Is it?” The tablemate didn’t feel like it at all.
“Yes,” Jiang Mingzhen took out the mirror in her bag, mimicked the face on the drawing, and squeezed a strange expression, “Look again.”
“Yes!” The honest tablemate said, “You and this face are exactly the same, ugly!”
“Right, so he drew very well.” Satisfied Jiang Mingzhen walked back to their class with her hands behind her back. Before the class, the teacher notified the students in the class about the afternoon activities. To select the first place in the competition ‘My Friends’, from the drawings of Zhang Liu and He Yu, they decided to conduct a poll, every child had the right to vote. Jiang Mingzhen deliberately observed He Yu when the teacher announced the incident. He lay on the table and concentratedly stroked the cartoon characters on a paper, as if the teacher talked about other people’s affairs. He didn’t care much. Jiang Mingzhen was worried that he wouldn’t get the first place. In conscience, she thought Zhang Liu’s drawings were better. The two children, the toy trains, everything in it was very similar to real ones, and the small flowers and the grass in the background were also very beautiful.
“He Yu shouldn’t have drawn me! Doesn’t he know? My face is unpleasant.” The emperor was not worried, but his eunuchs were worried to death (m.the observers are more anxious than the person involved) which was exactly how Jiang Mingzhen was. She looked sad all morning, and thought about how to get more votes for He Yu, so he can be in the first place.
