The Eldest Daughter-in-Law [Reborn] - Chapter 70
Xie Yunchu stepped over the threshold with regret and walked toward him. “What should I do? I didn’t know you would accompany us, so I didn’t pack your clothes. How about I send someone back to Beijing to get them?”
Wang Shuhuai looked at his wife with mixed feelings. “If I don’t tell you, you won’t ask?”
Xie Yunchu blinked and asked in return, “You won’t tell me if I don’t ask?”
Wang Shuhuai understood that Xie Yunchu had done this on purpose last night.
He was speechless. He turned around, went into the house, sat down at the high table in the hall, poured a cup of tea, and pushed it toward Xie Yunchu.
Xie Yunchu knew he had something to say, so she sat down with him.
The maids were busy in the rooms on both sides. It was quiet everywhere except for the chirping of cicadas.
Wang Shuhuai looked at his wife’s bright features and said, “Why can’t you just tell me if you’re unhappy? Why do you have to make me guess or come to you on my own?”
Xie Yunchu held the teacup and replied, “The Second Young Master never speaks to me no matter what happens, so I’m supposed to be like the ringworm in your stomach, reading your mind? If I ask too many questions, you’ll find me annoying. If I don’t ask clearly, I’ll delay you, and you’ll be unhappy. Isn’t this reasonable?”
In the past, whether or not Wang Shuhuai gave instructions, she would prepare and pack his luggage. But this time, she didn’t. Her purpose was to teach him a lesson.
People didn’t take things seriously unless they suffered a loss.
Wang Shuhuai was silent. He had indeed been annoyed when Xie Yunchu repeatedly asked him questions. Sometimes plans changed unexpectedly, and he found her nagging tiresome.
Xie Yunchu continued, “Of course, you may think that we women have no sense. We only manage three meals and a few clothes. What’s the big deal? But you don’t know that if you say nothing, I won’t know when you’ll come back. If I prepare the food too early, it may not taste good. If I prepare it too late, you’ll be hungry. Worse, you may not come back at all, and the food will be wasted.”
“Your world is vast, but mine is just this little corner. When you move even a hair, my whole body moves. Sometimes, I wait from morning till night, but there’s no sign of you. Throwing a stone makes a sound, but you never say a word. Now, I’ve come to terms with it. If you have something to say, just tell me. If not, I won’t ask.”
After Xie Yunchu finished, she still smiled and drank her tea calmly.
Wang Shuhuai listened to her every word and realized the difficulties she faced. Feeling ashamed, he said, “I was negligent. Next time, I’ll send Ming Gui to inform you.”
Xie Yunchu responded indifferently.
Now she had no time to guess her husband’s thoughts. To make things work, Wang Shuhuai needed to change. She didn’t expect the marriage to be perfect, but it should at least be comfortable and free.
After clearing the air, Xie Yunchu asked, “Second Young Master, did you bring some clothes with you when you came?”
Wang Shuhuai nodded. “I had Ming Gui prepare two.”
In fact, when he went out, he had asked Ming Gui to make some preparations. He originally wanted to see to what extent Xie Yunchu ignored him, but at that moment, he realized that Xie Yunchu was actively waiting for him to report.
It turned out that this was what had been making him angry recently.
Instead, he felt more grounded. That was the attitude one should have to live life.
“During this period, I will be with His Majesty during the day. I may return to the capital, but I will let you know in advance.”
It was taking the initiative to disclose one’s whereabouts.
The changes were swift.
Xie Yunchu smiled, “I understand. I’ll send someone to your room tomorrow morning to get some of your things.”
The couple, both tired after a day’s work, quickly bathed and changed clothes. Xie Yunchu bathed first and then combed her hair. By the time she finished, Wang Shuhuai had also finished bathing and emerged.
The couple exchanged a glance.
That night was the first day of the month.
They headed to bed one after the other in perfect sync.
But as Xie Yunchu lay down, she felt a little anxious. She turned sideways, looking at her husband, whose tall figure loomed like a mountain in the darkness. “Second Young Master, are you tired today?”
Wang Shuhuai frowned when he heard this. “What do you mean?” He sensed his wife was hinting at something else, as if she wasn’t too eager to be intimate with him.
Xie Yunchu looked embarrassed. “We’re staying in the villa, which belongs to someone else. I’m afraid my aunt will notice if I call for water in the night—it would be embarrassing.”
Wang Shuhuai didn’t respond but instead turned over and pressed his wife beneath him.
Xie Yunchu clearly felt his resolve and took a deep breath.
Wang Shuhuai wanted it.
The familiar chill settled over her. Xie Yunchu turned her face away, her breathing a bit unsteady, but still she hesitated. “Weren’t you… okay earlier?” She tried to reason with him. “How about waiting a little longer? I’ll go to the kitchen and make some arrangements later…”
Wang Shuhuai would stay in Yanshan for some time, and he could come back another day.
But at that moment, he had already taken hold of the belt.
In the darkness, Xie Yunchu felt the sharpness of his gaze and his newfound sense of determination.
“How can we break the rules at will?”
Xie Yunchu was still hoping for a child, so she agreed.
Fine beads of sweat oozed from her forehead. She held on without a word and endured the pain. Wang Shuhuai simply bent down, placed half of his arm across her, and motioned for her to bite.
Xie Yunchu bit into his arm. His flesh was as hard as stone, but she had no other choice. She couldn’t let anyone hear.
It felt as though the two were having an affair.
As their passion peaked, Xie Yunchu couldn’t help but wrap her arms around his neck. Wang Shuhuai also moved closer, pulling her tightly against him.
Xie Yunchu could feel that her husband was different from before, like a sleeping lion slowly awakening.
So, he was not a true immortal after all, Xie Yunchu thought, sneering to herself.
Wang Shuhuai, with his keen hearing, caught the sound of his wife’s sweet voice and looked down at her. Her eyes were filled with tears, shimmering like rippling water. Wang Shuhuai suddenly couldn’t bear to let go. The night went on, and Xie Yunchu was utterly exhausted. She even admired his stamina. Fortunately, it was only twice a month, or she wouldn’t be able to bear it.
The rain had just stopped. Lying on the bed, catching her breath, Xie Yunchu asked, “What about the water?”
