The Eldest Daughter-in-Law [Reborn] - Chapter 31
With the experience from last time, Wang Shuhuai knew how to amuse Sister Ke. He lifted the child high into the air, and Sister Ke waved her hands and feet, giggling. After Wang Shuhuai held her for a while, she reached out her arms toward Xie Yunchu, tossing and turning between her parents’ arms and thoroughly enjoying herself.
It silently eased the estrangement between the couple.
After a while, the wet nurse hurried over to take the child. When Wang Shuhuai was about to let go, his daughter pouted and immediately burst into tears of grievance.
She wanted to be held again.
Wang Shuhuai insisted on handing her over to the wet nurse, so Mama Lin and others left quietly, leaving only the two masters.
The man had black hair and prominent eyebrows, standing in the wind. His facial features were refined and noble, and his temperament so extraordinary, as if he should not live in this world.
Xie Yunchu stood one step behind Wang Shuhuai, not too far away.
In her previous life, she had chased after his figure, always feeling close but never quite reaching him. Now, gazing at the handsome man before her, she suddenly thought that winning a man’s heart might be the greatest deception in the world. Wasn’t it better just to appreciate his beauty?
Earlier, Wang Shuhuai glanced to the side and saw Xie Yunchu leaning against the pillar, watching him and their daughter play with a smile in her eyes. Her hazy eyebrows and snow-white neck, her slender and graceful body bathed in moonlight and gently blown by the wind, embodied a kind of beauty that represented the peaceful and tranquil years.
Wang Shuhuai believed that tranquility was beauty. His wife had a good family background, a gentle temperament, and acted steadily and virtuously. He had no dissatisfaction with her.
“I’m going to take a shower,” he said as he passed by her.
The fabric of her bra brushed against her knees, causing a slight irritation from the friction.
Xie Yunchu understood what he meant. Since the rules had been set, she had no reason to be shy and turned around to follow him.
Wang Shuhuai preferred solitude when bathing. Xie Yunchu, unaware of this rule at first, always took the initiative to serve him. Wang Shuhuai endured it initially, but one day, after a few drinks, he revealed his preference. Xie Yunchu remembered feeling hurt and withdrew with a sense of grievance.
With the experience from her previous life, Xie Yunchu had the maid prepare her clothes early, making sure she didn’t reveal her figure.
Wang Shuhuai didn’t think much of it. After a while, he emerged from the shower to find Xie Yunchu dressed in a light red silk gown with a slanting collar. She was bending over to tidy up the child’s clothes. Her slender waist curved gracefully, and the softness of her chest nearly brushed against the table.
His wife rarely dressed so beautifully.
Wang Shuhuai had noticed all the changes in Xie Yunchu over the past month. Though they seemed minor, he harbored some doubts. Seeing her dressed more beautifully today, he guessed that perhaps her mother’s words last time had spurred her to focus on herself.
Wang Shuhuai was not the type to be harsh on his wife and was pleased to see her making an effort.
When a woman dressed up to please the man she loved, it showed that she cared, though her way of showing it might have changed.
Wang Shuhuai looked away and sat down on the kang bed as usual, intending to read for a while since it was still early. However, he found the small case empty.
He glanced at his wife subconsciously.
Xie Yunchu, having handed Sister Ke’s clothes to Chunqi, who was waiting outside the curtain, noticed Wang Shuhuai’s expression out of the corner of her eye and laughed inwardly. Previously, Wang Shuhuai would read for hours, often staying up until midnight. He was always reserved and restrained, making it a lengthy process to restrain himself. She didn’t want to stay up so late, as it was not good for her health. She had simply taken his book to ensure she could go to bed early after finishing her tasks.
After Xie Yunchu handed over the items to the maid, she turned around, leaned against the antique shelf, and yawned.
Wang Shuhuai understood her intentions and went into the inner room first.
Xie Yunchu promptly blew out the light and followed him in.
The room was pitch black, with no light on, and two people lay on the bed, one in front of the other. Wang Shuhuai slept on the inside, and Xie Yunchu on the outside. Both were clear-headed and knew what to do next, but being too purposeful might have been awkward.
As his breathing steadied, Wang Shuhuai decided to start a conversation for the first time in his life, “Why didn’t you leave the lights on?”
In the past, a small glass lamp would have been left on.
Xie Yunchu didn’t know why she hadn’t turned on the light but responded quietly, “I forgot to turn it on just now.”
It wasn’t a big deal, so Wang Shuhuai didn’t comment further. He lay down quietly with his hands behind his head.
Xie Yunchu remained still in her place, choosing not to move closer. Previously, she had always taken the initiative to do so, even gently removing his belt. This time, she wanted to see how long Wang Shuhuai could remain reserved.
There was a distance between them, with the moonlight streaming in like a river of stars.
Wang Shuhuai had expected Xie Yunchu to come over, as she had always been very docile in this regard. From his position, he could catch glimpses of her. She had pulled out her hairpin, letting her shiny black hair spread across the pillow. She was picking up a strand of hair, wrapping it around her fingertips, with her knees slightly bent, maintaining a leisurely posture, a stark contrast to her usual cautious and restrained demeanor.
The hazy moonlight drifted in like light smoke, faintly outlining the bed.
Xie Yunchu’s slender jade fingers moved, as if covered with a layer of light.
The two gradually adjusted to the darkness.
Wang Shuhuai knew Xie Yunchu was waiting for him. In matters like this, men should take the initiative, and Xie Yunchu had done so well in the past.
He reached out his long arms and easily pulled her smooth waist toward him. Their bodies met, and then Xie Yunchu found herself beneath him.
The inevitable friction of fabrics, the collision of hardness and softness.
Xie Yunchu was still somewhat shy, her hands slowly dropping.
Fortunately, the dim light in Wang Shuhuai’s corner made it difficult for them to see each other clearly.
They did not look at each other. The darker it was, the more acute the friction between their bodies became.
His breath brushed against her face and ears, and his hands withdrew from her waist, leaving behind a slight softness and numbness.
Wang Shuhuai didn’t actually touch her directly. He was a gentleman and was not accustomed to signaling with his body.
“Is it okay?” His voice was calm, at least that’s how Xie Yunchu perceived it.
