The Eldest Daughter-in-Law [Reborn] - Chapter 19
Xie Yunchu grabbed Sister Ke’s chubby hand and pointed in his direction, saying, “Look, that’s Dad.”
Sister Ke couldn’t speak yet. She was babbling towards Wang Shuhuai and making unclear sounds like, “Da..Da Da…”
Big watery eyes, so tender and cute.
When Wang Shuhuai saw this scene, the familiar feeling came back to him. His eyebrows and eyes were as gentle as spring sunshine. He walked over slowly, hesitated for a moment, took the child from Xie Yunchu’s arms, and asked her while teasing Sister Ke, “Why are you standing in the wind? Let’s talk in the study.”
Xie Yunchu didn’t want to go in. She decided to follow the example of Wang Shuhuai in her previous life and keep her distance.
She smiled, “I came here to discuss something with you. My father’s birthday is coming up in a few days. As you know, my mother is gone, my grandmother is old and I live with my second uncle, and there are only two aunts at home, which is not very decent. I plan to go back and stay for a few days tomorrow to help my father organize the birthday banquet. What do you think?”
Wang Shuhuai frowned slightly, thinking it was something important.
After some thought, he realized that his father-in-law really needed the help of Xie Yunchu, the Eldest Daughter.
He relaxed his brows and nodded, “It’s your duty.”Â
Sister Ke was naughty and grabbed Wang Shuhuai’s collar.Â
Wang Shuhuai raised his hand to hold the chubby little hand and asked, “When is his birthday?”
“April 3rd.” Xie Yunchu invited with a smile, “Second Young Master, are you free that day?”
Wang Shuhuai seemed dissatisfied with her questioning. He raised his eyes and looked at her calmly, “The old man is both my father-in-law and my elder. How can I not go?”
Xie Yunchu’s father was the chief academic officer of the Imperial Academy and one of Wang Shuhuai’s mentors.
Wang Shuhuai attached great importance to rules and did everything he should do.
Xie Yunchu smiled without saying anything, then changed her mind and said, “By the way, about mother…” Xie Yunchu’s tone was hesitant.
Wang Shuhuai immediately understood, “Don’t worry, I will take care of it.”
Xie Yunchu’s smile was more sincere now. She immediately took the little kid back into her arms, bowed in front of him, and went back to the backyard.
Wang Shuhuai put his hands behind his back and watched the mother and daughter go away quietly, unaware that his wife did not invite him to dine in the backyard as usual.
Sister Ke lay on Xie Yunchu’s shoulder and made faces at her father. After a while, perhaps because she was hungry, her chubby cheeks puffed up, and she looked at her mother’s chest with watery eyes, lowering her head to bite it. She arched her body outward and almost fell out of Xie Yunchu’s arms.
Xie Yunchu was so scared that she broke out in a cold sweat. Seeing that, Wang Shuhuai, who was not far away, quickly came over and raised his hand from behind to support Sister Ke’s back.
Xie Yunchu was caught off guard.
The mother and daughter both ran into Wang Shuhuai’s arms.
Half of her body hit his strong chest hard, and her soft body was squeezed out of shape.
Xie Yunchu looked a little embarrassed and immediately took a step back, turning her face away and brushing her hair that was messed up by the wind.
Wang Shuhuai caught Sister Ke and his eyes swept across Xie Yunchu’s chest inconspicuously.
The frightened rabbit’s eyes trembled slightly in the night breeze.
A slight itchiness slid through his heart. She didn’t even bind her chest. Well, it was okay at home.
Wang Shuhuai quickly looked away.
When Mama Lin and others heard the noise, they came out. One took the child, and the other helped Xie Yunchu inside.
The couple turned around and walked in opposite directions.
Wang Shuhuai sent someone to tell Jiang overnight that Xie Yunchu would be back at her parents’ home to stay for a few days.Â
Hearing that, Madam Jiang’s face changed immediately. Since Xie Yunchu married into the Wang family, she had never returned to her parents’ home to spend the night. She always went there during the day and came back before dusk. She calculated with her fingers and found that it was March 28th, and the birthday of the eldest master of the Xie family was on the third day of April. According to that calculation, Xie Yunchu would have to stay in the Xie family for four or five days.
This was outrageous.
Madam Jiang did not dare to argue with her son, so when she woke up the next day, she told the housekeeper, “Go and call Madam Xie to help me wash and dress.”
The Mama left, and in the blink of an eye, she came back again, with a sad face, “Madam, the Second Young Madam went out with the Second Young Master this morning. Before leaving, she bowed in the direction of the upper courtyard and said that the Xie family had important matters to attend to and that she didn’t have time to say goodbye in person. She left first and will apologize to you later.”
Madam Jiang was so angry that she fell backward.
“How dare she?!” Unfortunately, Xie Yunchu was very polite and no one could find fault with her, which made Jiang feel very aggrieved.
Xie Yunchu didn’t know that her mother-in-law was so angry with her that she jumped up and down. She left the child at home and walked out easily. She had just told Wang Shuhuai that he, as a father, should take care of the child when she was away. She wanted to leave home for a few days so that the Wang family could feel what it was like when she was not at home.
The carriage slowly stopped in front of the gate of Xie Mansion.
The red door opened, and a beautiful and graceful woman stood at the bottom of the steps. Seeing her, she moved lightly and quickly came over, her voice soft and earnest, “The young lady is back.”
It was Concubine Lu, who had a kind heart like a bodhisattva.
Concubine Lu, as usual, personally greeted Xie Yunchu at the door.
She was wearing a lilac-colored brocade gown with a delicate and low-key orchid pattern on the cuffs. Her slender figure was like a wisp of smoke floating in the sky after the rain, and her smile was like ripples on the lake caused by the wind. She was gentle and charming.
Which concubine could show her face in front of the gate? Moreover, the Xie family had a tradition of passing down poetry and etiquette and was very particular about appearance.
But Concubine Lu was able to make everyone willingly accept her and even respect her.
Xie Yunchu’s father was the chief academic officer of the Imperial Academy, and her mother came from a prominent family in Jinling. The two were forced to get married because of an agreement made by their ancestors. Her mother was outgoing and straightforward, while her father was a notorious nerd. After marriage, the two had different personalities and constant friction.Â
