The Daily Life Of Mei Furen Doting On Her Husband - Chapter 73
Mr. Mei had suddenly revealed a new identity, and as he approached her, Wu Zhen found herself unsure of how to react. Yet, he seemed to adapt effortlessly, his demeanor unchanged. He half-knelt before her, concern evident in his voice as he asked, “Are you okay? Where are you hurt?”
Taoist Shuangjiang, who had finally regained his composure, found the scene difficult to process. He averted his gaze, struggling to maintain his composure.
Wu Zhen, held by her husband’s hand, gazed into his dark eyes filled with worry and concern. Then, suddenly, she burst out laughing.
She coughed and asked, “Are you the junior uncle of Taoist Shuangjiang? A disciple of Changxi Temple?”
Mei Zhuyu glanced at Shuangjiang next to him and nodded. “Yes, but I am now a disciple of Xiguan.”
He spoke calmly, as if he didn’t care, but Wu Zhen could see that his mind wasn’t as calm as it seemed. So, she didn’t press further and instead turned the conversation to herself. “Do you know my identity?”
Mei Zhuyu was silent for a moment before replying, “I just found out.”
Wu Zhen continued, “I am the Cat Lord of Monster City. What do you think of this identity?” Although they were in charge of all the monsters in Chang’an and were different from ordinary monsters, some people in the Taoist sect still disdained dealing with them.
Mei Zhuyu lowered his eyes and leaned over to hug her. “I don’t have any thoughts about it. Let’s take care of your injuries first. We can’t delay any longer.”
He picked Wu Zhen up, and as he jumped off the tower, Wu Zhen heard him say, “You have only one identity in my heart, and the others… aren’t important.”
Wu Zhen could feel that the hands holding her were broad and steady, and his voice was soft and gentle, as if he was afraid of scaring her. It was completely different from the solemn and murderous look he had shown earlier when he was holding a talisman in one hand and a sword in the other, killing the Plague God. Wu Zhen didn’t know why, but her heart was moved. She suddenly remembered the words she had seen written by her husband before. She had only just realized the solemn and murderous aura in them.
“My dear.”
“Um?”
“You were impressive just now.” Wu Zhen smiled and reached out to touch her husband’s chin.
Mei Zhuyu quickly glanced down at her, then walked faster, not as calm as before. “No, I was just finishing what you had started.”
“Why are you being so modest? If I say you’re awesome, then you’re awesome. If it weren’t for you, I would have been tortured half to death by the Plague God today. You truly are worthy of being my husband. You always surprise me.”
Taoist Shuangjiang silently followed like an invisible man: …How come my hearing is so good?!
Taoist Shuangjiang suddenly noticed that his junior uncle was blushing: …How come my eyesight is so good?!
He silently slowed his pace and distanced himself from his junior uncle and the Cat Lord in front of him. He had sorted out this complicated matter in his mind. His serious and cold junior uncle had gotten married, and his wife was the Cat Lord. The two hadn’t known each other’s identities before, but they accepted it well and started flirting.
And, his junior uncle was at a disadvantage—at a disadvantage in every aspect. For the first time in his life, Taoist Shuangjiang felt the same feeling that his junior uncle had towards them in the past—anger at their lack of fighting spirit.
Junior Uncle, aren’t you usually so tough? When have you ever shown weakness to anyone? Why are you so soft in front of a woman? Are you a fake Junior Uncle?
“Shuangjiang, keep up.”
Suddenly, he heard the voice of his junior uncle in front of him. The Taoist Shuangjiang, who had been silently complaining in his heart, suddenly became a well-behaved junior nephew and answered honestly, “Yes, Junior Uncle.”
——
When Liu Taizhen followed Ling Xiao on her way back to Chang’an City, she thought she would find a miserable friend waiting to be rescued. However, things turned out unexpectedly. When they arrived at the city gate, everyone had already left. Only Hu Zhu remained, standing before a pool of evil water suppressed by a talisman, holding a small mirror and applying powder to her face.
She crossed her legs, her embroidered shoes stained with blood, and touched her face, muttering to herself, “You’re so pale after being injured. It’s ugly. Even makeup can’t make you look as fair and white as you were born with.”
Ling Xiao: What’s going on?
Liu Taizhen was momentarily confused by the situation and stepped forward to ask.
Hu Zhu: “The Cat Lord’s man rushed to save the beauty at the critical moment. The two of them worked together to solve the Plague God. The couple returned home together. They’re probably talking about their feelings now.”
Liu Taizhen raised her eyebrows. “Young Master Mei? He’s not an ordinary person?”
Huzhu sighed. “He’s a Taoist Priest, a very powerful one from Changxi Temple.”
Liu Taizhen: “I remember that Taoist priests at Changxi Temple aren’t allowed to marry.”
Huzhu shrugged. “Who knows? But that’s not important. The most important thing now is that you, the Snake Lord, clean up this mess and then check on the Cat Lord. She swallowed half of the plague.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Taizhen showed a headache expression. “I’ve told her many times not to swallow anything carelessly.”
Hu Zhu chuckled. “Is the Cat Lord the kind of person who would listen to others?”
Liu Taizhen sneered. “Then let her learn a lesson so she won’t ignore my advice next time.”Â
With that, she began cleaning up the puddle of dirty water on the ground. She was originally a snake, and her nature was water, making her perfect for handling such things.
Hu Zhu didn’t expect her to just ignore it and asked in disbelief, “Snake Lord, are you really not going to care this time?”
Liu Taizhen didn’t even look up. She just paused for a moment and replied in a clear, cold voice, “Now she has someone to take care of her.”
She no longer needed to worry; everything had been taken care of for her.
Hu Zhu suddenly patted her shoulder, then turned and left without saying anything.
At that moment in the Mei Mansion, Mei Zhuyu was staring at the familiar tabby cat on the bed with a stunned expression, even more stunned than when he discovered that Wu Zhen was the Cat Lord.
“Why are you looking at me so stupidly? I’ve swallowed too much evil, and it’ll be better if I stay like this.” The tabby cat lay listlessly on Mei Zhuyu’s usual pillow, speaking in human language.
Mei Zhuyu: “…The cat I met many times before was you?”
“Ah, isn’t it obvious?” Wu Zhen responded matter-of-factly.
Mei Zhuyu: “…”
