The Daily Life Of Mei Furen Doting On Her Husband - Chapter 66
People’s singing and dancing at that time were bold and unrestrained. Wu Zhen’s song was a widely sung piece of music called “Congratulations to the Newlyweds”. As soon as Wu Zhen began singing, everyone couldn’t help but glance at Mei Zhuyu, winking and smiling teasingly.
“Sister Zhen, are you teasing your husband?”
“Oh, I can’t stand it anymore. Why is Sister Zhen looking at Second Young Master Mei while singing? Isn’t this deliberately embarrassing me?”
“I can’t bear to watch, but why do I suddenly feel a little envious?”
After exchanging glances, they still felt it wasn’t enough. When Wu Zhen finished singing, several people coughed in unison, and some clapped their hands and cheered, “Did you hear that, Second Young Master? You are so lucky. Sister Zhen doesn’t sing often. This time she sang a song especially for you.”
“Hey, so many people are watching us, Miss Wu, please restrain yourself a little!” Someone joked with a smile.
Wu Zhen put down her pipa and returned to Mei Zhuyu. She glanced at the group of people who were all having fun and pointed her finger, “Go on, each of you sing a song for me. You must sing all the songs today, and none of you can escape.”
Someone else laughed, “Then does Mr. Mei want to sing?”
Wu Zhen raised her eyebrows, saying, “Of course not, my husband will sing for me when we get home, so don’t even think about it.”Â
She knew without a doubt that her husband would never sing this kind of song. She had brought him to have fun but didn’t want him to be laughed at by others.
With her protection, no one refused to give her face, and people began singing one after another, chatting and laughing. Of course, some sang well and some did not, but everyone knew each other and joked and laughed constantly. Although there weren’t many people, it was very lively.
After spending time together, Mei Zhuyu’s relationship with them improved significantly. The next day, Wu Zhen stayed at Mei Zhuyu’s house, slept until noon, and talked to him about the people he knew.
“I don’t know many officials in the Ministry of Justice, but I know the sons and nephews of the Minister of Justice. They used to play with me, so I have some respect for them. I also know your Minister Xu. I helped him a lot in the past. If you have any trouble, you can go to him. I’ve already spoken to him…”
Although Mei Zhuyu didn’t understand why Wu Zhen thought he was being bullied in the Ministry of Justice, he was naturally happy to see her so caring and thoughtful. He didn’t care about anything else and just looked at her with gentle eyes, responding in a low voice, not wanting to refuse her kindness.
As for Wu Zhen, this was the first time she had taken such considerate and careful care of someone. Sometimes she even found it strange when she thought about it. At first, she didn’t care much about having a husband, but then she found herself unconsciously protecting him. No wonder a certain lady she was friends with had joked that she was bewitched by a vixen. Wu Zhen suddenly raised her hands, held Mei Zhuyu’s cheeks, and took a closer look. He had purely masculine, tough cheeks and an ordinary face. He could be considered decent, but definitely not handsome.
How could such an unremarkable-looking man be a vixen?
Wu Zhen touched Mei Zhuyu’s chin and noticed his Adam’s apple move slightly. The man, who had been copying a book, put down his pen, held her hand, moved closer, and kissed her forehead with restraint.
Wu Zhen felt the warmth of his kiss on her forehead as he held one of her hands. She smiled and reached out to tickle her husband’s Adam’s apple. Mei Zhuyu lifted his head, exhaled, and then grabbed her other hand. Now, with both of her hands held by him, Wu Zhen didn’t struggle. Instead, she leaned in and playfully bit his chin.
Young people, especially young men, simply could not stand teasing, especially when the one teasing them was their sweetheart, the lady with whom they had worshiped their ancestors. If Mei Zhuyu hadn’t had great self-control, he would have been unable to resist and would have pulled her close.
But the sun was shining brightly outside, and Wu Zhen clearly wasn’t thinking about that. Her eyes were full of playfulness, and she found his reactions amusing. Mei Zhuyu, unable to trust his self-control any longer, suddenly stood up, walked out with the book in his hands, and hid on the steps under the window behind to continue copying it.
Wu Zhen stayed alone for a while and felt bored. Although the young man didn’t like to play, it was strange that she didn’t feel bored when he was around. Although Wu Zhen was a few years older than Mei Zhuyu, she was prone to being willful when she got close to people. She got up and followed him to the steps under the window.
There was a clump of bamboo growing there, and the tiny rays of sunlight danced in the gaps between the bamboo shadows, falling on Mei Zhuyu’s face. He sat on the steps, and his back looked particularly good against the backdrop of the green bamboo. Wu Zhen walked over, broke off a small branch of newly grown green bamboo, and then lay on Mei Zhuyu’s back.
Mei Zhuyu was caught off guard by her sudden weight and bent down slightly. He felt her soft body against his back but continued to copy silently. In fact, this was not an urgent task, and it didn’t matter whether he copied it or not, but… if he didn’t find something to occupy his mind, his thoughts would constantly drift to Wu Zhen. If there were more people around, it would be fine, but when they were alone, he couldn’t help but think of things he shouldn’t.
A monk had hardly any desires, but what he felt now… was really too contrary to his years of practice.
From discovering that he had desires to facing and accepting those uncontrollable urges, Mei Zhuyu was still struggling. He just hoped he wouldn’t be too abrupt with her, or at least not constantly think about the unspeakable things.
Wu Zhen lay on his back and looked at his handwriting. She noticed that the handwriting seemed somewhat different from his character. In her eyes, her husband was calm and upright, with few expressions but generous and kind. However, his handwriting was sharp and aggressive, which didn’t seem to match him. If Wu Zhen only looked at the handwriting, she would think the person who wrote it was cold, sharp, and dangerous.
People say that handwriting reflects a person, but it seemed that was not entirely true. Wu Zhen thought to herself and playfully pulled Mei Zhuyu’s earlobe, “Get up, go back to your room to write. Don’t you feel uncomfortable here?”
Seeing Mei Zhuyu hesitate, she smiled again, saying, “I won’t bother you anymore.”
Pulling him back to the study, Wu Zhen casually inserted the green bamboo branch in her hand into a small jar of clear water on the desk, then stood up to leave.Â
Mei Zhuyu saw her getting ready to leave and subconsciously asked, “Where are you going?”
Wu Zhen had intended to go out, but when she saw his reluctance, she quickly realized he was restraining himself. Her heart softened, and she changed her mind, saying, “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll take a nap next to you. You don’t have to worry about me.”
As promised, she went to take a nap by the window. The window was wide open, and it was in the shade. There was a pond outside, a cool breeze, and the fragrance of green grass. It was the perfect spot for a nap.
