The Daily Life Of Mei Furen Doting On Her Husband - Chapter 63
Wu Zhen stood behind the railing on the second floor, pointed at Cui Shouyuan, who was talking nonsense below, and asked with a sneer, “Who is that thing? Where did he come from?”
Hu Zhu, gloating a little, said while looking at the person below with sympathy, “That’s Cui Shouyuan, one of the four departments of the Ministry of Justice. He has the same rank as your husband and often comes to Pingkang Street to have fun. You may not be familiar with him, but he is married to Li Yuyou, the Princess of Shanyang Palace.”
Wu Zhen did know Li Yuyou, and they had played together several times in the past. However, Li Yuyou behaved in a dissolute manner and kept many male favorites. Wu Zhen was tired of seeing her always bringing several male favorites with her, so she never went out to play with her again.
Seeing the Cat Lord’s cold smile and frown, Hu Zhu comforted her, saying, “He is just a nobody. Even if he said some nonsense, you can just punish him if you’re unhappy about it. It’s not worth getting so angry.”
Wu Zhen waved her hands and pressed her forehead with a headache, “No, I was thinking about something else.”
Hu Zhu: “What?”
Wu Zhen had a complicated expression. “My husband has a calm and cold personality. He can see clearly what others are like, but he doesn’t pay much attention to other people. He must have seen these people scolding him. He must have heard these words many times….”
Hu Zhu understood, “Oh, I feel bad. Are you worried that your husband will doubt you after hearing this?”
Wu Zhen: “That’s not the case. He likes me so much and doesn’t care about anything. I don’t think he will take these words to heart.”
Hu Zhu: “Then why are you still worried? Your husband won’t doubt you because of this. You hear this kind of talk a lot and don’t care about it. Who cares?”
Wu Zhen sneered again, “I have heard a lot of people say this and that about me, but I cannot tolerate them saying that about my husband in front of me.”
Hu Zhu: “He didn’t say this to your face; he wouldn’t have dared to.”
Wu Zhen: “Oh, if I heard it, then he said to my face.”
“Then what do you want to do?” Hu Zhu was a little curious.
Wu Zhen crossed her arms and smiled, “What can I do? I have a bad reputation, what else can I do? He made me unhappy, so of course, I will make him unhappy too.” After that, she went downstairs. Hu Zhu knew that something interesting was going to happen and leaned on the railing to look down with great interest.
Cui Shouyuan was quite drunk. When Wu Zhen walked up behind him, he was still complaining about Mei Zhuyu being ungrateful. When he saw his friends sitting on both sides looking at him with expressions as if they had seen a ghost, he turned his head in a daze.
Seeing Wu Zhen, Cui Shouyuan was half sobered up by the fright. He shuddered and said with a green face, “Wu, Miss Wu…”
As soon as Wu Zhen raised her hand, the person next to Cui Shouyuan quickly stood up and sat further away. She sat down next to Cui Shouyuan, leaning on the table and glancing at him with a kind tone, “I’m already married; how can I be called Miss Wu? My husband’s surname is Mei, so why don’t you call me Mrs. Mei… Mr. Cui, right? Do you know who my husband is?”
Cui Shouyuan knew that he had been cursing Mei Zhuyu. He gritted his teeth and laughed awkwardly twice. He tried to get away with it and poured a glass of wine for Wu Zhen. “I may have drunk too much. I am very drunk. I don’t remember what I said just now. If I have offended you, I will apologize to Mrs. Wu… Mei.”
Cui Shouyuan’s family background was not outstanding, but he was able to enter the circle of the upper class and dignitaries because he married a Princess. However, he usually interacted with low-level officials and dared not offend Wu Zhen. She was deeply loved by the Emperor and the Empress. All the masters in the palace had close relations with her, and almost half of the children of the dignitaries in Chang’an had contacts with her. If he really angered her, he would be in trouble.
Cui Shouyuan was worried, thinking that he could just bow down and apologize to her. After all, he had been scolding Mei Zhuyu just now, and only mentioned her briefly. Wu Zhen shouldn’t be too angry.Â
Cui Shouyuan still believed that Wu Zhen didn’t care much about Mei Zhuyu. The reason she came to trouble him was just because she couldn’t let it go. She would never make a big fuss for Mei Zhuyu. After all, everyone knew that Wu Zhen had many lovers in the music hall. Mei Zhuyu was ordinary in appearance and not gentle in temperament. It would be strange for Wu Zhen to actually like him.
However, Cui Shouyuan was awakened by a glass of wine. He looked at Wu Zhen blankly, and when he saw her put down the wine cup, he realized that she had poured wine all over his head and face.
“Th-this…”
Before Cui Shouyuan could finish speaking, Wu Zhen suddenly changed her expression, stood up, grabbed him, and dragged him out. Cui Shouyuan, dragged by her, staggered. He felt her strength and couldn’t break free. The next moment, his head went cold again. Wu Zhen had pressed him into the pond where water lilies were planted. The carps in the pond were startled and scattered, and Cui Shouyuan began to struggle instinctively after the initial shock.
Wu Zhen didn’t care. She kept pushing his head into the water. After a while, she calmly pulled him up by his hair. But without letting him catch more than a couple of breaths, she pushed him back into the water. After several rounds of this, Cui Shouyuan was as limp as mud, utterly miserable, with tears and snot mixed with pool water and green duckweed, making him a complete mess.
When Wu Zhen finally let go and tossed him aside, Cui Shouyuan was fully sober. He was angry and annoyed but mostly terrified, curling up on the ground, panting and trembling.
Wu Zhen looked down at him and wiped the water from her hands. “Remember, next time, take a detour when you see my husband, Mei Zhuyu. If he sees you again, I’ll beat you. If I hear you say something bad about him, whether to his face or behind his back, as long as I hear it, you’ll be dealt with by me.”
Despite his fear, Cui Shouyuan watched as Wu Zhen breathed a sigh of relief and left to find Liu Taizhen at the Monster Market.
“Little Snake, I’ve dealt with a lot of dirty stuff these past few days. You handle the rest.”
Liu Taizhen, listless and lacking energy, looked up. Around the Dragon Boat Festival, the smell of realgar wine filled the air. Being a snake, Liu Taizhen hated that smell. Though it didn’t scare her, it repulsed her, just like how people couldn’t stand the smell of filth. So, she avoided going out these days. The affairs of Monster City had all been managed by Wu Zhen, Hu Zhu, and the others, keeping them busy day and night.
