The Daily Life Of Mei Furen Doting On Her Husband - Chapter 48
Empress Wu asked the palace maids to wait at the door and went in.Â
Wu Zhen followed her quietly but didn’t see Imperial Concubine Mei. Instead, Her Highness the Empress placed the cat on Imperial Concubine Mei’s bed and sat beside it, staring at the cat.
Her elder sister was much older than her and had always been the most stable and mature. She loved to act like an elder sister in front of her, teaching her strictly, but also caring for and protecting her. After becoming the Empress, she grew day by day, and she handled everything in and out of the court in an orderly manner. Although she had only given birth to a daughter, she was respected by the Emperor, as if she could handle any big problem. But at that moment, she showed a worried expression as if the sky was falling, to a cute white cat.
Wu Zhen thought her sister’s expression was strange and squatted on the beam, watching for a long time.
“How could such a shocking thing happen? Although it has been concealed for the time being, it cannot be hidden forever.” Empress Wu rubbed her forehead and said, “For now, the only solution is to ask two eminent monks to come and see if they can help you return to your original state.”
The white cat meowed and rubbed Empress Wu’s hand with her head.
Wu Zhen sensed something was wrong with the words, and an idea suddenly popped up in her mind. She jumped off the beam and quietly moved closer.Â
Empress Wu continued, “Su Han, how do you feel now? Are you okay?”
Su Han? Imperial Concubine Mei Su Han? Wu Zhen paused. She had guessed correctly. Imperial Concubine Mei had somehow turned into a cat. Accidents were happening one after another, and they were all connected to people around her. If Wu Zhen still couldn’t figure out that someone was behind this, then she wouldn’t deserve to be a Cat Lord.
After thinking for a moment, Wu Zhen suddenly jumped out openly and stood in front of Empress Wu and the white cat.
Empress Wu was startled but immediately picked up the white cat, eyeing the suddenly appearing tabby cat with caution. She didn’t exclaim or lose her composure and was much calmer than most people would be.
“I can help you,” Wu Zhen’s cat spoke in a deep, unfamiliar voice, not like her usual tone at all.
“I can help Imperial Concubine Mei recover her human form,” she continued, “but if I do, Empress Wu, you’ll have to give me something in return.”
When Empress Wu heard that she could help, her eyes were filled with doubt and contemplation, but upon hearing the condition, she relaxed slightly. After all, asking for something in exchange always makes people feel more at ease.
“What do you want?” She asked, careful not to probe further. Delving into identity or background wouldn’t help solve the problem at this point. Her goal was clear: to rid Concubine Mei of this cat-like appearance. To be honest, she couldn’t stand it any longer. She had hated cats for so many years, and suddenly having to accept one was really painful.
Wu Zhen grinned, looking malicious, “I want the Sutra Seal.”
The Sutra Seal was a priceless treasure—a palm-sized jade seal with an entire scripture engraved on it. The font was so small it was difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. Such exquisite carving was simply beyond human ability. It was said that the seal could also ward off evil spirits and was treasured in the inner palace.
Although the item was precious, Empress Wu agreed without hesitation, feeling even more reassured because of its value. Unaware that the cat with the scary smile was her mischievous sister, Empress Wu dealt with her cautiously.
Wu Zhen deliberately teased her sister for a while with evil intentions before seriously addressing the problem. She first carefully observed Concubine Mei, who had turned into a white cat, then waved her claws, and the white cat floated in the air with all four legs off the ground, frightened and a bit furious. Wu Zhen couldn’t help but laugh. She opened her cat mouth and sucked— the white cat vaguely transformed into a human shape in a distorted wave, but before Empress Wu could show her joy, the human form suddenly disappeared, and the white cat fell back into the quilt, landing on its back.
Something wasn’t right. Wu Zhen put one paw under her chin, thinking in a human-like posture. She had initially assumed it was some sort of magic that had turned people into cats, but this wasn’t caused by ordinary magic.
After Concubine Mei had tidied up her tangled white fur, Wu Zhen tried again. She observed more closely and clearly saw that Concubine Mei was wrapped in a black shadow. That thing was like a piece of human skin, binding her tightly into the shape of a cat.
Of course, it failed again, but Wu Zhen now knew what it was. It wasn’t very powerful, but it was very troublesome. To unlock the ‘Morph Jinx’ made of the fur of spiritual animals, ordinary magic was useless. There was only one solution— the tears of a loved one, at least four.
In other words, to remove the thing from her body, they would need to find four of Concubine Mei’s close blood relatives and have them shed their tears on her. Only then would it work.
Coincidentally, Concubine Mei had only four blood relatives left in this world: the Prince, her biological son; Mei Si’s father, the Concubine’s biological brother; Mei Si, and another… Mei Zhuyu.
What Wu Zhen had to figure out was how to make these people cry. Of course, her main concern was how to make the Second Young Master cry. The others wouldn’t be difficult, but to be honest, she was a little reluctant to trouble her future husband.
“What happened? Is there any trouble?” Empress Wu asked, a bit impatient.
Wu Zhen snapped out of her thoughts and said, “It’s a bit tricky. I’ll come back tomorrow when I’m ready.” With that, she jumped out of the window and ran off, not caring about Empress Wu’s expression.
Wu Zhen wasn’t in a hurry to leave the palace. Instead, she went to find the Prince first. The prince was Concubine Mei’s only child. He was usually disciplined by Empress Wu, who treated him like her own son. However, Concubine Mei wasn’t very close to her son, or rather, except for Empress Wu, Concubine Mei was slightly reserved toward everyone. She even liked the Princess, born to Empress Wu, more than her son.
The Prince was only nine years old, a little fat boy who loved to cry. It was easy to make him cry. Wu Zhen just tickled the little Prince when he was doing his homework alone in the inner room, and the little fat boy cried and shed many tears for her. Seeing the Prince, as soft as a big white dough, crying and holding his hand that had been tickled red, Wu Zhen felt very guilty. She decided to bring him some interesting toys to compensate him the next time she visited the palace.
Wu Zhen then left the palace to find Mei Si, who was painting at home. He had a red band tied around his head, his hair slightly messy, and his cuffs stained with ink. He looked sloppy and depressed. There was cold, untouched food on the table. Mei Si, deeply focused on his painting, didn’t notice his sister Zhen had arrived until much later. He scratched his head with the tip of his brush, further messing up his already disheveled hair, and then exclaimed in surprise, “Sister Zhen, when did you get here?”
After saying that, he quickly covered the painting in front of him. “I haven’t finished it yet; you can’t look at it! If you do, there won’t be any surprises!”
