The Daily Life Of Mei Furen Doting On Her Husband - Chapter 130
Mei Zhuyu did not sleep all night and came to a deserted house in the mountains with the wooden box on his back. The house had been abandoned for a long time, its walls collapsed and nearly covered by weeds—looking even more dilapidated than a few years ago.
A few years ago, he had severely injured the monster here. He knew this was where the monster had been waiting.
Without looking around, Mei Zhuyu stepped into the house. He walked slowly forward with a stern look, and when he passed a mottled bluestone in the courtyard, he paused.
The blood that had flowed all over the ground on that rainy night was gone. Only the stone where two bodies once lay remained.
Standing on the bluestone, Mei Zhuyu looked up and around. Suddenly, his expression froze, and he stared at a dead tree in front of him to the right. Something was hanging on the bare branches of the dead tree, and blood was constantly dripping down.
It was the body of a cat, a tabby cat that looked very familiar to him. Mei Zhuyu’s face suddenly turned pale, veins bulged on his forehead, and his previously calm face now appeared ferocious and terrifying. He quickly walked over and reached out to grab the cat’s body. The tabby cat had been gutted and was already dead. A pool of sticky blood lay under the tree, shockingly red.
Was it her? Was it Wu Zhen? Mei Zhuyu stared at the cat corpse in his hand without blinking, his heart wracked with pain, and he could hardly breathe. He hadn’t expected to see this. It was the most terrible outcome he had imagined on the way there, but he hadn’t expected it to appear in front of him so suddenly.
No, that was not right. Mei Zhuyu took a deep breath, managing to find a bit of calm in his chaotic mind. He closed his eyes tightly, then opened them suddenly, chanted a few words, placed two fingers of his left hand together, and quickly drew a talisman, pressing it firmly on his forehead. At that moment, accompanied by a slight pain in his forehead, Mei Zhuyu found that the cat corpse in his hand had turned into a cold, black snake spitting its tongue.
Almost the moment Mei Zhuyu opened his eyes and saw the true form of what was in his hand, the black snake opened its mouth and lunged at him, as fast as lightning.
With a “puff” sound, like something exploding, the black snake that had nearly touched Mei Zhuyu’s face exploded into a cloud of black mist.
There was still a little blue lightning on Mei Zhuyu’s left hand. He waved his hand and put it into his sleeve. He exhaled, and when he looked around, his expression became more solemn and alert.
That black snake had given him a warning. From the moment he stepped into this place, the owner had been preparing to kill him. He didn’t know how many other things like the black snake were lurking.
While pondering this, Mei Zhuyu heard the staggering sound of footsteps.
He grasped a dark wood sword, frowned, and turned his head to look. The alertness on his face turned into surprise when he saw who appeared. The person with unsteady steps came from behind a door. His face, once filled with murderous intent, shifted to shock upon seeing Mei Zhuyu, then turned to joy. She shouted, “My dear!”
The person who suddenly appeared was Wu Zhen. She looked unwell, with a pale face, bloodstained clothes, and a rare dishevelment. She was holding her stomach with one hand, her furrowed brows showing that she was enduring some kind of pain.
Mei Zhuyu noticed the blood staining the hem of her dress. She was bleeding continuously, and the air carried a faint smell of rust. His expression changed, and he quickly walked toward her. Wu Zhen watched him approach, her body tilting, and suddenly collapsed to the ground in a state of relaxation. “You’re finally here,” she hummed weakly, her face showing a bit of worry. “Our child, I don’t know if it’s okay.”
“It hurts…”
Mei Zhuyu’s eyes were filled with worry and distress. He quickened his pace and reached her side, extending his hand to feel her pulse. At that moment, the dying Wu Zhen’s head suddenly morphed into a large mouth that lunged to bite him. However, the mouth froze in mid-air before it could touch Mei Zhuyu’s head.
Mei Zhuyu sighed softly and drew his wood sword. The moment the thing opened its mouth, he realized something was wrong, and the sword in his hand pierced its heart faster than he could think.
As the wood sword was pulled out, the ‘Wu Zhen’ screamed and turned into a black shadow, disappearing.
There were indeed many “interference objects” there. He would encounter other “Wu Zhen” later. Mei Zhuyu was right. As he walked deeper into the house, he saw three more Wu Zhen. One of them was a corpse, and the death was gruesome—its head and body separated, and its limbs broken. It had been pinned to the ground with sharp stones.
Even though he suspected these were all illusions, Mei Zhuyu still stepped forward when he saw the corpse bearing Wu Zhen’s face. It wasn’t until the corpse pieces turned into the same thing and attacked him, only to be destroyed by him, that Mei Zhuyu was fully reassured it was not the real Wu Zhen.
There was another one hanging on a tree, its life or death unknown. Mei Zhuyu stepped forward and brought it down. This one was more powerful than before. After revealing its true face and being cut into two pieces by Mei Zhuyu’s sword, it actually split into two and attacked him. Although he ultimately beat it apart, it still left a small wound on Mei Zhuyu’s arm.
The last one was quite direct, attacking him the moment it saw him, but it was eventually beaten back by Mei Zhuyu. As he walked along, he never encountered the monster, only things resembling Wu Zhen that kept appearing to disturb his mind.
Mei Zhuyu was becoming numb. Even if they were all fake, it wasn’t a pleasant experience to keep killing these things that looked like someone he loved. His expression grew colder. He stopped, pressing the wooden box on his back thoughtfully, contemplating his next move.
At that moment, another Wu Zhen appeared before him. Mei Zhuyu looked at her motionlessly. As before, Wu Zhen rushed toward him, swinging the whip in her hand at him without hesitation.
Mei Zhuyu raised his sword to block, but she deflected his strike. He didn’t know why, but when he met her eyes, something felt strange.
Hesitant in his heart, the sword in his hand faltered. Oddly enough, the whip that had been aimed at his face seemed to miss. Wu Zhen narrowed her eyes, put away the whip, and approached him. Just as Mei Zhuyu was about to retreat, he suddenly felt Wu Zhen’s hand touch his buttocks and pinch it in a familiar and unruly way.
Mei Zhuyu froze, blinking. The wood sword in his right hand and the thunder talisman in his left hand, poised to strike, both halted. He stared at the person in front of him with a look of disbelief and hesitation.
Wu Zhen was quicker than him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and threw herself into his arms, laughing, “Oh, so it’s the real one. I almost hit you. Let me see if you’re alright.”
“Is it… really you?”
Wu Zhen nodded, “It’s me. Don’t you believe it?”
