Reborn Lady - Chapter 447
The Emperor passed away, and the new Emperor remained in mourning for twenty-seven months until the twelfth lunar month of the second year of Taiping.
The Apartment of Attire sent the new Emperor’s clothes. Wei Luo’s dragon robe alone had four sets in red, as well as other colors such as bright yellow, sapphire blue, sky blue, and jet black.
Upon returning from his duties in the front hall, Wei Luo noticed a row of brand new dragon robes hanging in the sleeping quarters of the back hall, evidently awaiting his try-on.
Wei Luo frowned at the sight of those sets of red robes.
Yin Hui was too familiar with his taste in attire. In her twenties, he had favored wearing black; occasionally, he would don brighter colors to please her. Over the past two years, Wei Luo had observed filial piety for the late Emperor, opting for black or white attire. Coupled with his stern countenance, he resembled the devil. Yin Hui could scarcely imagine how the ministers felt upon meeting him each day, particularly the new officials unfamiliar with Wei Luo’s preferences—they might tremble when addressing him.
“Red is the most esteemed color in this dynasty, and Father also favored wearing it. Now, in this time of peace and prosperity, dressing in brighter colors will uplift the spirits of our subjects,” Yin Hui encouraged Wei Luo as she assisted him with his attire.
Wei Luo reminisced about his father’s fondness for red, often seeking out that vibrant figure during their hunts and battles together.
“If you truly dislike wearing it, then wear it from time to time,” Yin Hui softened her tone as she noticed his contemplative expression.
Wei Luo wasn’t opposed to the red dragon robe, but wearing it immediately after the funeral didn’t seem appropriate.
“Give it a try,” he relented, gently touching her hand.
Yin Hui fetched a set of red dragon robes and helped him wear them.
It stood to reason that this was the job of the eunuchs or maids in the palace, but Wei Luo liked to be alone with her, and the palace people retreated outside, so Yin Hui had to circle around him. Fortunately, Wei Luo was handsome, with a slender figure, and looked good in any clothes. Yin Hui also dressed him up pleasingly. If Wei Luo became an old fat man, then Yin Hui wouldn’t be bothered to do it herself and would just ask the palace people to come in and serve.
When Wei Luo tied the belt by himself, Yin Hui couldn’t hold back and touched the thin waist with her hand.
Wei Luo looked back.
Yin Hui walked across to him as if nothing had happened, and looked at him solemnly like an embroidered lady.
The red color was festive. Wei Luo already looked young, but now wearing this red dragon robe, he looked like he was just thirty years old.
Such a heroic new Emperor…
Thinking of some young maids watching Wei Luo, Yin Hui pursed her lips.
Looking at her, Wei Luo was admiring her at first, but when she became unhappy suddenly, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Yin Hui snorted and said, “Now that you’re not in a mourning period, the ministers should worry about your harem, right?”
Wei Luo smelled vinegar, walked over with a smile, pulled her into his arms and hugged her, pinched her ears, and said, “They don’t want to worry about it, so why bother?”
Yin Hui pinched his waist, saying, “It’s too easy for people to miss you like this.”
Wei Luo knew that she touched him on purpose just now, held her hand against his body, and said in a low voice, “It’s nothing to worry about, I am all yours.”
Except for her, no other woman could see him.
Yin Hui was satisfied, and when she was easily hugged by Wei Luo, she didn’t mind whether it was appropriate to do that at that time.
Wei Luo was like a jar of wine. When she was young, she tasted spicy and exciting, so spicy that it made people panic and nervous. Now she was used to the aroma of his wine, and now whenever she tasted it, she would only be deeply intoxicated by it.
When in bed, he was just her man.
In the early morning of the next day, Yin Hui was still lying on the bed. Wei Luo got up first, his eyes swept across the row of dragon robes, and he picked out a set of sky blue.
After getting dressed, Wei Luo went around the screen again and came to the bedside.
Yin Hui looked up from the hem of his clothes, looked up and down, and pouted again.
Wei Luo just thought it was funny, sat down, and hugged her in his arms. “Do you like it or not? If you don’t like it, I will still wear black.”
Yin Hui stared at him and said, “So what if I like it, you spend most of the day with your courtiers, how long can I see you wearing it?”
Wei Luo understood, remained silent for a moment, and said, “After Xiaonian, I will be free, and then we will go out of the palace for a walk.”
Yin Hui said with a smile, “Aren’t you afraid of being recognized? Many people here have seen us.”
Wei Luo retorted, “So what? You and I will walk together as husband and wife, and we will be upright.”
Yin Hui liked his word “upright”, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him on the lips. “Okay, it’s getting late, the Emperor should go to court.”
Seeing her lazy and comfortable appearance, Wei Luo also wanted to sleep with her.
It was a pity that the new year was approaching, and there were many things to be busy with in court.
After breakfast, Wei Luo went to court.
He had been wearing black and white for too long, but that day he suddenly changed into a blue dragon robe, and the ministers’ eyes lit up.
Guessing that the Emperor was in a good mood, a minister came up and asked Wei Luo to fill the harem with drafts and listed a series of benefits for Wei Luo.
After listening with no expression on his face, Wei Luo replied lightly, “The Empress and I are a young couple with a deep relationship, and there is no room for others between us. You don’t need to mention this again in the future.”
The minister who had just spoken was startled, and subconsciously said, “The Emperor is in his prime, but his heirs are weak…”
Wei Luo still had the same indifferent expression, saying, “The soldiers are good but not many, and so are the descendants. My three children—the Crown Prince, who is skilled in both civil and military matters, the Second Prince, who is extremely intelligent, and the Princess, who is gentle and pure—are all dragons and phoenixes among people. I have them, so that’s enough.”
Wei Heng and tWei Xun were both in the hall, and they looked at each other with smiles on their faces.
Seeing that their father was so firm in his decision, they no longer had to worry about their mother being wronged by him.
And Wei Luo’s words in the early court soon spread among the ministers’ homes.
