- Chapter 432 - Extra 2 Story: Wei Luo Chasing His Wife (Wu Luo + Yin Hui time travelled back together)
Yin Hui had initially expected Wei Luo to release her hand after they were out of sight of Wei Ying and the others. However, to her surprise, he not only didn’t let go but directly switched from holding her wrist to holding her hand.
“Let go!” Yin Hui scolded him in a low voice.
Wei Luo met her fierce gaze and finally complied, releasing her hand.
Yin Hui glared at him and said, “By doing that just now, do you realize you’re ruining my reputation?”
Wei Luo responded calmly, “The siblings of the Guo family are not known for gossiping.”
Yin Hui persisted, “Even if they don’t talk, they may still harbor suspicions about us. We’re not married or engaged. How appropriate is it for us to meet in private?”
Wei Luo simply looked at her and replied, “The one being inappropriate here is me. If they choose to laugh, it will be at me for persistently seeking your company.”
Despite never giving him a favorable glance, Yin Hui knew that Wei Ying and the siblings from the Guo family could see through their dynamics.
Confronted with Wei Luo’s self-deprecating handsome face, Yin Hui turned her head away.
In truth, she wasn’t very angry; she was just feeling overwhelmed.
Since their encounter that morning, when King Yan had deliberately paired them up, Yin Hui’s emotions had been in turmoil.
Did she still blame Wei Luo?
She had harbored resentment before, and it was reasonable to blame him. However, as she recalled Wei Luo’s words and actions regarding her illness, one by one, and became certain that he truly harbored no personal feelings for Wen Ruyue, Yin Hui’s resentment gradually dissipated.
She was just uncertain about whether she should marry Wei Luo or not.
With ten years remaining before becoming Prince Shu, Wei Luo must listen to King Yan and comply with the protocols of the Yan Palace. Could he truly accompany her back to her natal house?
Though there were still five mutton skewers in her hand, Yin Hui had lost her appetite entirely. Discarding them seemed wasteful, so she handed them to Wei Luo in frustration.
Wei Luo accepted them without a word.
Yin Hui continued her ascent up the mountain, with Wei Luo silently trailing behind.
As they ascended the mountain, various farmers and hawkers lined the path, offering sweet water, dried sweet potatoes, and even small rabbits and chickens for sale.
Feeling thirsty but having not brought water along, Yin Hui halted at a stall vending sweet water, curious about its preparation.
She purchased a bowl of tea and quickly downed it, turning her back to the passing pedestrians.
Meanwhile, Wei Luo, noticing that the mutton skewers had turned slightly fishy due to the cold, handed them to the children near the stall owner.
As Yin Hui wandered around Dongshan Temple, Wei Luo remained out of her line of sight, though she was aware of his presence.
Tired from the hike, Yin Hui casually settled onto a nearby rock to rest.
Wei Luo sat down beside her, silent but watchful, appearing somewhat apprehensive of Yin Hui’s potential reaction despite his accustomed authority.
Yin Hui shot him another glare, wondering if this was his way of coaxing her into changing her mind.
Wei Luo lowered his eyes momentarily before retrieving a small silver pig and a sachet embroidered with double butterflies fluttering amidst flowers on pink satin from his sleeve pocket.
Accepting the gifts, Yin Hui examined the sachet closely before tucking the little silver pig inside, finding it a perfect fit.
Wei Luo observed her, then glanced at the sachet in her hand, his expression softening as he spoke, “I remember, every Dragon Boat Festival, you used to embroider three sachets.”
Yin Hui bowed her head, her eyes moistening with tears.
Three sachets: two for a couple and one for Xiao Heng.
Unable to hold back any longer, tears streamed down her cheeks, landing on the sachet.
Seeing her in distress, Wei Luo gently grasped her hand, gazing at her wet lashes as he spoke softly, “I know you harbor the most love toward Xao Heng, and I could have tried to persuade you by invoking his name, but I don’t want you to do this for him. I only want you to do it for me, as my wife.”
Just as he desired to marry her not because of Xiao Heng, but because she was the only one in his heart.
Yin Hui pressed her handkerchief against her eyes, allowing the soft satin to absorb her tears. Then, with a hint of sarcasm, she remarked, “Why you? With that cold demeanor?”
Wei Luo pursed his lips, meeting her gaze as he replied, “Is it not enough for me to reside in your heart? Am I truly that undesirable?”
Yin Hui still harbored some anger toward him, but as she glanced at their intertwined hands, she found herself unable to voice her grievances.
He wasn’t so terrible after all. The fact that he refrained from taking concubines already placed him above many others. Yet, his foolishness in nearly causing her frustration by considering it had nearly driven her to the brink.
Wei Luo knew that Yin Hui also held him in her heart. Seeing no one around, he enveloped her in his arms, bowing his head to whisper in her ear, “I will treat you no less than how my second brother treats my second sister-in-law in this lifetime. I’ll never take a concubine or establish another household.”
The only couple Wei Luo was familiar with was his elder brothers and their wives. He believed his second brother doted on his second sister-in-law immensely.
Yin Hui also recalled a particular incident during the Chinese New Year when Ji Xianxian, feeling cold after the New Year’s Eve, had asked Wei Yan to carry her back, and Wei Yan had indeed carried her back in front of everyone. Such thoughtfulness was enviable to any wife.
Clutching the sachet in her hand, she murmured, “The Second Brother can carry the Second Sister-in-law, will you carry me too?”
This choice of title inadvertently revealed her innermost thoughts.
Unable to resist, Wei Luo brushed his lips against her delicate earlobe and whispered, “Yes.”
The brief yet familiar sensation sent a shiver down Yin Hui’s spine. Remembering their surroundings, she pushed him away in annoyance and headed toward a less-traveled mountain path.
Wei Luo hastened to catch up.
Yin Hui deliberately selected a secluded route, initially to avoid being seen together, but inadvertently providing Wei Luo with an opportunity. The seemingly austere man led her into a small forest.
