- Chapter 430 - Extra 2 Story: Wei Luo Chasing His Wife (Wu Luo + Yin Hui time travelled back together)
“Young lady, are you heading to the temple fair?” King Yan asked in a kindly tone, taking on the role of an elder.
Yin Hui nodded nervously in response.
In her previous life, Yin Hui had spent over a decade as King Yan’s daughter-in-law, so she unconsciously adopted the role of a daughter-in-law when interacting with him.
King Yan glanced at his third son and proposed, “Since these eight guards have been taken away by me, and it’s not convenient for you to go shopping with just one maid, how about I send one of my sons to accompany and protect you?”
Before Yin Hui could respond, Wei Luo swiftly dismounted from his horse and replied, “I obey, Father.”
Both Wei Yang and Wei Yan comprehended the situation. Since their father still entertained the idea of accepting Yin Hui as his daughter-in-law, they tactfully averted their gaze.
Wei Xuan, being only thirteen, was unaware of the almost-engagement between the Third Brother and Yin Hui. He inquired of Wei Luo suspiciously, “Father hasn’t assigned anyone yet, so why did the Third Brother agree?”
Upon hearing this, Yin Hui clenched her teeth in frustration.
Wei Luo paid no mind to his naive fourth brother.
King Yan smiled and rode back towards the city, followed closely by the other brothers. The eight guards from the Yin family bid farewell to Yin Hui with respectful gestures before following King Yan.
Only Wei Luo remained behind.
Yin Hui shot a glare at him, ignoring Jinzhan and the carriage driver as she mounted her horse and pressed forward towards the temple fair. The white-hoofed horse soon caught up with her.
“There are a lot of people on the road, so you should slow down,” Wei Luo advised her, attempting to match her pace.
Feeling a sense of melancholy, Yin Hui couldn’t decide whether to direct her frustration towards Wei Luo or herself for choosing such an inconvenient day to venture out.
Though already tired from their earlier haste, Yin Hui gradually slowed her pace. However, she remained steadfast in her decision to ignore Wei Luo, turning her head to gaze at the fields alongside the road instead.
Observing Yin Hui’s profile, Wei Luo noted that this was the first time he had seen her dressed in men’s clothing.
“Did you read that letter?” Wei Luo asked softly, even though there were no other people around on this section of the road.
Yin Hui responded coldly, “What letter? Men and women shouldn’t exchange intimate letters. I tossed the box into the fire without opening it.”
Wei Luo’s expression shifted slightly. “Even the painting was burned?” He inquired.
Yin Hui responded with a nonchalant hum.
A hint of amusement danced in Wei Luo’s eyes as he remarked, “You didn’t even take a glance at it. How did you know there was a painting inside?”
Yin Hui tightened her grip on the reins, silently scolding herself for underestimating Wei Luo’s mischievousness.
Observing the slight pout on Yin Hui’s lips, Wei Luo found her anger rather adorable. In contrast to their interactions on Dongshan’s side, where her anger was genuine and tearful, that day’s display of irritation seemed more like a playful act to him.
“If you’re truly upset, you can burn the letter but keep the painting. It’s not auspicious to burn it,” Wei Luo suggested, subtly moving closer to her.
Yin Hui tilted her head, unaware of his subtle movements. However, the image of the two of them standing under the locust tree from the painting flashed in her mind. The painting was so beautifully done that she couldn’t bear to destroy it. Moreover, considering Wei Luo’s status as a Prince in the future, his paintings would be valuable treasures.
Known for his brief in speech, Wei Luo was typically the one being drawn out by others in conversations. Yet now, he found himself eager to please her, willing to become the kind of husband who would go to great lengths to win her affection.
After a brief silence, Wei Luo remarked, “Considering Father’s attitude, he doesn’t seem to mind me marrying a spirited and lively wife.”
Yin Hui’s face was flushed, but she said, “There’s a temple fair at Dongshan Temple today. Many ladies will be out enjoying themselves. You should go and choose a partner.”
Wei Luo, who saw himself as a thirty-year-old, regarded her with the eyes of a real fourteen-year-old girl, his tone betraying a hint of helplessness and indulgence, “You know how I feel about you, so why say that?”
Despite being a mother in her previous life, Yin Hui still exhibited such a childish temper.
Yin Hui snorted, saying, “Think what you want. I have no desire to marry you again, so please don’t bother me.”
Wei Luo looked at her profile and asked, “Do you still want to marry someone else?”
Yin Hui didn’t dwell on it; she simply didn’t want to return to the Yan Palace. But in front of Wei Luo, she intentionally chose to say what he least wanted to hear, “Of course, as long as I find the right person.”
Wei Luo’s voice sank, “What do you mean by ‘right’?”
Yin Hui glanced at him, and seeing Wei Luo’s discontent made her secretly pleased. She thought carefully before speaking, “Firstly, the person must be well-off, so he won’t look down on me, and won’t even disrespect his elders. Secondly, he should be gentle and have a sense of humor, to avoid a constant gloomy presence that might lash out at me, leaving me frightened every day. It would be better if he were understanding, able to discern my likes and dislikes, and not pretend to be my companion while bringing a concubine back one day.”
After speaking, Yin Hui looked at Wei Luo, curious to see if he would become angry and drive her away in frustration.
But Wei Luo, aware that she was upset about these issues, didn’t let embarrassment lead to anger. Instead, he offered a wry smile and quietly promised, “I won’t repeat the same mistakes.”
The provocative method didn’t work. Yin Hui hummed, looked ahead, and said, “If you want to follow, I can’t stop you, but stay away from me. I don’t want to ruin my reputation.”
After finishing speaking, Yin Hui flicked the horsewhip and rushed out.
Wei Luo had no choice but to keep a certain distance and follow her from afar.
At the foot of Dongshan Temple, there was a special area designated for guarding carriages and horses. Yin Hui left the horse there and headed to the temple fair. Glancing back, she saw Wei Luo not far behind. However, with many people between them, she didn’t worry about accidentally getting close to him.
Having not visited the temple fair for over ten years, Yin Hui’s interest that day was particularly high.
Stopping at a ring stall, Yin Hui bought twenty rings in one go and then threw them away.
It had been a long time since she played, and her accuracy was extremely poor. With only two rings remaining, Wei Luo’s voice suddenly rang in her ears, “I’ll do it for you.”
