- Chapter 424 - Extra 2 Story: Wei Luo Chasing His Wife (Wu Luo + Yin Hui time travelled back together)
Wei Luo responded, “Okay, I was wrong, but I only have a brother-sister relationship with her. It’s really not what you think.”
Yin Hui retorted, “Whatever your relationship is, anyway, it has nothing to do with me. You are from a family of royal relatives. In the previous life, I was the one who favored you. In this life, I want to change my way of life, and I ask the Third Master to make it happen.”
Wei Luo frowned and said, “Don’t you think about Xiao Heng?”
Yin Hui smiled, looking at him, and said, “You are also a child. If mother… Mrs. Wen has the opportunity to leave the palace. Do you want her to continue being locked up in the Yan Palace like a bird, or do you want her to have a brighter future?”
Wei Luo pursed his lips.
Yin Hui got on the horse again and rode away.
Wei Luo watched her leave, but unfortunately, the path was too short, and she disappeared in the blink of an eye.
He remained alone in the mountain for a long time before returning to the Yan Palace. By then, lunch had already been served in the other halls.
Instead of heading to the guards, Wei Luo went back to Chengxin Hall.
After barely eating, Wei Yang arrived.
Wei Yang had just come from Princess Xu’s place. Wei Luo, who usually wouldn’t leave the mansion without permission, had been gone for a long time. Princess Xu was worried that something had happened, so she asked Wei Yang to inquire. If there was trouble in the palace, Princess Xu should be informed, but if Wei Luo himself was in trouble, Wei Yang would help if he could.
Wei Luo lowered his eyes.
He was still his father’s son, and his aunt questioned him whenever he went out. It was conceivable that Yin Hui would feel very restrained in their marriage.
He had once believed that a woman’s upbringing since childhood was to stay within the confines of her home, never venturing outside. He had assumed Yin Hui would be the same, and she seemed accustomed to it. But that day, during his trip to Dongshan, Wei Luo realized how determined and independent she truly was.
“I was the one who climbed high in the previous life, but in this life I want to change my way of life.”
Wei Luo let out a wry smile.
Wei Yang, sitting across from him, shook his hand, and the tea almost spilled out.
When did his third brother ever smile wryly?
First, he lost his soul, and now he smiled wryly. Could it be that he had encountered something sinister?
“Third Brother, you…”
“I’m fine, I just went out for a walk.” Wei Luo suddenly raised his head, and his usual expression returned when he looked at Wei Yang.
No matter how concerned Wei Yang was, he couldn’t get Wei Luo to open up.
Wei Yang left, and returned to inform Princess Xu. She couldn’t decipher what Wei Luo was thinking, so the matter was dropped.
In the afternoon, Wei Luo still went to the guards. In the evening, as he contemplated returning to Chengxin Hall, a sudden thought of his mother crossed his mind.
Yin Hui had thought of the Yan Palace as a cage. What did his mother think?
Wei Luo changed direction and headed towards the West Sixth Harem.
Mrs. Wen and Wen Ruyue were preparing to eat when they heard that the Third Master had arrived. Mrs. Wen was overjoyed and hurriedly asked the maid to bring a pair of bowls and chopsticks.
Wei Luo looked at Wen Ruyue and said, “I need to discuss something with my mother. Cousin, you should go back first.”
Wen Ruyue felt hurt. It was almost dinner time, and her cousin was chasing her away. Wasn’t it too harsh?
What could Wei Luo possibly need to hide from her?
Could it be about the marriage from the Yin family? Hadn’t he already given up on that?
Wen Ruyue looked at Mrs. Wen, feeling aggrieved.
Mrs. Wen glanced at her son.
Wei Luo’s expression was grim. When he explained to Yin Hui earlier that he didn’t truly desire to marry his cousin, he also learned from Yin Hui about the good deeds his cousin had done before his return home.
Originally, Wei Luo had planned to discuss with Yin Hui about taking a concubine that night. However, because of his cousin’s presence, Yin Hui mistakenly thought that he had already taken a concubine.
Upon hearing his words, Mrs. Wen quickly gestured to her niece.
Wen Ruyue had no choice but to retreat.
Wei Luo glanced at her departing figure and then turned to his mother. “Mother, my cousin is not young anymore. I have someone in mind for her. When Father returns, you can decide on the marriage with her.”
Mrs. Wen’s eyes lit up. So, it turned out that her son wanted to arrange a marriage for her niece. No wonder her niece had to leave first.
“Which family is it?” Mrs. Wen inquired.
Wei Luo recalled that in his previous life, many officers and soldiers in the three guards had made meritorious service when his father faced adversity. He was familiar with them, so he quickly decided on one. Even though the candidate was just an ordinary soldier, he would become a fifth-rank military officer in ten years.
Although Mrs. Wen followed King Yan, she never considered herself superior. Therefore, she did not object to the candidate proposed by her son.Â
She said happily, “Alright, I’ll ask your cousin what she thinks tonight.”
Wei Luo nodded.
Mrs. Wen then added, “Let’s eat first. Don’t let yourself go hungry.”
Wei Luo sat across from his mother, and as they ate together, he hesitated several times. Finally, after finishing his meal, he gathered the courage to ask, “Mother, if you were given the chance to choose again, would you choose to follow Father once more, or would you marry a well-matched man who would allow you to pursue your desires?”
Mrs. Wen looked at her son curiously. “Why do you ask this?”
Wei Luo gazed back at his mother. “I want you to answer honestly, Mother.”
Mrs. Wen pondered for a moment, then smiled tenderly as she looked at her son. “I would choose to follow your father. In the palace, I have good food and clothing, and I have given birth to a wonderful son like you. That’s enough to make me content. Besides, your father takes good care of me. I have your father by my side. What more could I ask for?”
Wei Luo lowered his eyes, feeling deeply ashamed.
When had he been kind to his mother? He treated Yin Hui similarly to his mother, rarely expressing concern. It wasn’t that his mother disliked him; it was simply because of their blood relationship.
Wei Luo recalled the tears his wife shed when he mentioned their son.
She was willing to let him go, but she couldn’t bear to let go of Xiao Heng. Yet, he had broken her heart, assuming that life after marriage would be the same as in their previous life.
She wanted to change her way of life, but even if she married the same person and entered the same place, she could still live differently.
Suddenly, Wei Luo knew what he should do.
