- Chapter 415 - Extra 2 Story: Wei Luo Chasing His Wife (Wu Luo + Yin Hui time travelled back together)
After all, she was the only one who remembered Wei Heng. If he had never come into this world, he wouldn’t have suffered any anguish.
Yin Yong returned, accompanied by Yin Wen.
Observing that the steward from the Yan Palace had no objection about the presence of Yin Jingshan and his son, Yin Yong saw no need to ask them to leave. Instead, he engaged the steward in friendly conversation, wearing a smile upon his face.
After sipping his tea, the steward elucidated the purpose of his visit, explaining that His Royal Highness King Yan intended to arrange a marriage with the Yin family. Should Yin Yong agree to arrange a meeting with one of the young ladies, the Yan Palace would then formally dispatch a matchmaker to propose the marriage.
Yin Jingshan’s face beamed with joy, while Yin Wen’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
The steward from the Yan Palace glanced at Yin Yong, remarking with a smile, “Of course, forced marriages seldom yield sweetness. If the patriarch deems this union unsuitable, then…”
“No need for such concerns!” Yin Yong interjected with a smile, his happiness evident. “His lordship’s kindness has filled me with joy. Please forgive any rudeness on my part.”
The palace steward stroked his beard, confident that the Yin family would readily agree. Such a favorable opportunity was not to be missed.
Yin Yong inquired further, “May I ask which son His Royal Highness intends to propose marriage for?”
The palace steward replied, “It’s for the Third Master. He is nineteen years old and of suitable age for marriage. The eldest and second sons are already married, while the Fourth Master is still young.”
Yin Yong’s smile widened as he addressed the steward, “This old man has two granddaughters, both fourteen years old this year, eagerly awaiting their turn for marriage. I wonder which one His Royal Highness prefers as his daughter-in-law?”
The palace steward pondered to himself, considering the lord’s busy schedule and how unlikely it was for him to know the temperament of Yin Yong’s granddaughters. With a smile, he remarked, “It ultimately depends on the preference of the patriarch. Please inform me of your decision, and I will relay it to His Lordship.”
Yin Yong glanced at his son and grandson seated nearby before addressing the palace steward, “Then I will trouble you to return tomorrow. My two granddaughters have distinct temperaments, and I need to determine which one is more suitable.”
The palace steward nodded before taking his leave to report back.
Once the steward departed, Yin Jingshan turned to Yin Yong and remarked, “Father, is there even a need to deliberate? It should be Rongrong, as she is the elder sister. There’s no reason for the younger sister to marry first.”
Yin Yong glanced at Yin Wen, who said, “Choosing a wife is akin to choosing a virtuous person. King Yan likely has high standards for his daughter-in-law. I believe the Second Sister is more suitable.”
Yin Jingshan looked at his son in disbelief. How could his son be so foolish? Instead of vying for such an advantageous marriage for his sister, he advocated for his cousin?
Meanwhile, Yin Wen believed his father was the foolish one. Given his grandfather’s enduring affection for Yin Hui, was it not logical for him to favor her?
“Let me handle it myself,” Yin Yong dismissed his child and grandchild, making his way to the study.
Once alone, Yin Yong promptly made his way to Huixiang, his granddaughter’s residence. He understood King Yan’s true intentions; money was to be provided, but beyond that, if his granddaughter could marry an Emperor’s grandson, her status would be elevated, shielding her from potential mistreatment in the future.
While a wealthy merchant’s family might possess riches, their wealth could become a target for the powerful at any moment. Despite the Yin family’s stability over the decades, current circumstances were catching up to them.
Given the choice between his granddaughter marrying into another merchant’s family, which might face the risk of looting, and the opportunity for her to wed into high society, Yin Yong was unwilling to let go of the latter.
True, his granddaughter might encounter some grievances upon entering the Yan Palace, but such grievances were inconsequential compared to life and death. Ah Hui was exceptionally beautiful, and the Third Master, Wei Luo, displayed stability and talent. The young couple might find happiness together.
Excitedly, Yin Yong shared the news with his granddaughter, expecting her to be overjoyed. To his surprise, however, she showed no interest whatsoever.
“What’s there to be happy about? The Northern regions have been plagued by frequent wars in recent years. I suspect that King Yan is likely short of military supplies. First, he entices us with the marriage proposal, then he will lament the lack of funds in front of us. Are we expected to foot the bill to aid the palace?”
Yin Hui’s sarcasm was evident, though there were only her grandparents and herself in the room, with no outsiders present. Even so, Yin Yong was taken aback. “Shh, can you speak like that?”
Yin Hui fell silent, gazing at her grandfather with eyes resembling autumn water, their depths reflecting a hint of peach blossoms.
His granddaughter was not easily deceived, so Yin Yong had no choice but to be truthful. “King Yan has taken an interest, and the funds will surely be provided. But indeed, it’s a favorable match…”
Yin Hui interjected, “If it’s such a favorable match, then surely Uncle and Aunt hope it falls upon my eldest sister. Grandfather should fulfill their wish.”
Yin Yong gave his granddaughter a look of disbelief.
Though Yin Yong was impartial towards both granddaughters, he harbored a particular fondness for the younger one. While his eldest granddaughter had received ample love from her parents and siblings since childhood, the younger one had not. Nevertheless, she remained kind, intelligent, and remarkable. Given the opportunity to marry into a prestigious family, Yin Yong was determined to grant it to his beloved granddaughter—especially considering the exceptional qualities of the Third Master, Wei Luo.
Yin Yong began to talk about Wei Luo’s good qualities.
Yin Hui, however, paid little heed to her grandfather’s praises. She had already made up her mind not to marry, with a ready-made reason at hand: she found life in a high-ranking family’s compound uncomfortable, preferring the simple joys of home.
“Grandfather, tell me, are the canaries in cages happier, or the sparrows flying freely outside?” Yin Hui questioned.
Yin Yong was left speechless.
“Do you truly have no desire to marry? Tomorrow, the matter will be settled, and any regrets then will be futile,” Yin Yong pressed.
“Don’t worry, Grandfather, I will never regret it,” Yin Hui assured him.
Resolute in her refusal to marry into the Yan Palace, Yin Yong had no choice but to honor his granddaughter’s wishes, retreating to his chambers.
As Yin Hui watched her grandfather depart, her thoughts turned once more to Wei Luo.
