Reborn Lady - Chapter 402
Seven years in Xianning, spring.
It was the wedding day of Wei Luo, the third son of King Yan. The Yan Palace hosted a banquet and invited some relatives, friends, and officials of the palace to the feast.
The noises faintly reached Chengxin Hall.
Yin Hui sat on the bed in the new house, clutching the handkerchief awkwardly. Her heart raced.
Jinzhan and Yinzhan had been sent outside by her. Unable to sit still, Yin Hui went to the window.
Through the glazed window, she saw two locust trees in the yard, blooming in the warm spring. The trees had just grown new leaves, tender and green.
Except for the two locust trees and the flower beds under the eaves, there were no other decorative objects in the yard.
Yin Hui thought to herself, the Third Master was the grandson of the Emperor, yet his courtyard was less luxurious than her natal courtyard.
However, the Yan Palace was much grander. As a child, Yin Hui had visited nearby and viewed it as magnificent, akin to the Imperial Palace.
It was unfortunate that she had been veiled in the sedan chair and hadn’t seen the palace’s interior.
The red sun sank, the sunset moved slowly, and night fell quietly.
The kitchen delivered dinner—four dishes and one soup.
Hungry all day, Yin Hui ate heartily before her newlywed husband arrived. She washed up immediately after eating and returned to the bed.
The new room was adorned in red, with a bright red satin quilt behind her.
Images from the pamphlet flashed in Yin Hui’s mind, and her face grew hotter.
She was incredibly nervous, hoping that the Third Master would come later.
Unfortunately, the more nervous she felt, the faster time seemed to pass. Unexpectedly, Jinzhan hurried in and nervously said to her, “My lady, the Third Master is here!”
Yin Hui’s heart trembled, but she bravely went out.
As she reached the door of the main room, she saw Wei Luo standing at the corner of the corridor, dressed in a red wedding gown, his face cold. The glow of the red lanterns failed to bring any warmth.
Yin Hui immediately recalled the hurried glance he gave when he lifted her veil.
On this significant day, he didn’t even smile. Did he not like her?
Yin Hui lowered her eyes.
She knew exactly how the marriage had come about. If King Yan hadn’t been eager to access her grandfather’s wealth, would he have allowed the Third Master to marry a commoner woman like her? It was rumored that the other sister-in-laws came from prominent families in Jinling.
A pair of black boots entered her field of vision. Yin Hui pushed aside those thoughts, showed respect, and bowed her knees slightly, saying, “Master.”
Wei Luo glanced over.
When he lifted her veil, she wore thick bridal makeup, but only her peach blossom eyes remained clear and lively. When she changed her clothes and washed off the heavy makeup, her fair face was revealed, resembling a hibiscus just out of the water.
“I heard people say that the Second Lady of the Yin family is the number one beauty in Pingcheng!”
The teasing words of his second brother echoed in his mind.
Wei Luo looked away and said, “Prepare water, I want to take a bath.”
With that said, he stepped into the washroom.
Yin Hui quickly gestured to Jinzhan and Yinzhan. The water in the room would be kept warm that night so the newlyweds could use it anytime.
The maids got to work. Yin Hui entered the main room, the scent of alcohol lingering around him. She carefully observed the person sitting on the chair, then approached quietly and glanced at the teapot on the table, asking softly, “Are you thirsty?”
Wei Luo looked over and nodded.
Yin Hui breathed a sigh of relief and poured him tea with trembling hands.
Speaking of which, she was not a sheltered girl who had never ventured beyond the confines of her home. Since childhood, she had enjoyed going out and playing, and as she grew older, she had the freedom to roam wherever she pleased under her grandfather’s indulgence.
Having encountered many people, she possessed considerable courage. Until that day, Yin Hui had never been afraid of anyone; rather, others vied to please her.
However, Wei Luo was different from those people. He was the grandson of the Emperor, the son of King Yan. Not only Yin Hui, but even the prefect of Pingcheng would show him respect.
She brought the tea bowl, filled to about seventy percent, to him.
Wei Luo saw a pair of white and slender hands. Her hands were beautiful, with a slight plumpness that felt just right.
Being the daughter of the wealthiest man in Yandi, she had naturally been pampered and spoiled.
As Wei Luo drank the tea, he caught a whiff of alcohol on his body and couldn’t help but frown.
He disliked drinking, but that night he had no reason to refuse. His second brother, who clearly couldn’t handle much alcohol, insisted on challenging him to drink.
When the servants carried water into the washroom, Wei Luo, about to take a bath, noticed their exchanged glances, as if they were unsure whether to enter and serve. Sensing their hesitation, he said, “No one needs to come in.”
Yin Hui and the two maids breathed a sigh of relief.
Wei Luo washed quickly, emerging in a red shirt.
As it grew late, Wei Luo headed directly to the inner room. Yin Hui followed, while the two maids remained outside.
Glancing at the furnishings in the new house, Wei Luo observed Yin Hui standing awkwardly a few steps away. He sat down on the bed and said, “Let’s go to sleep.”
Blushing, Yin Hui went to extinguish the lights, leaving only a pair of candles flickering softly.
Moving around the screen, she saw him sitting on the bed, his cold phoenix eyes fixed on her. Panic surged within Yin Hui.
She lowered the curtain subconsciously and then sat stiffly beside him.
Wei Luo could sense her shyness, seeing even the faint pink hue that adorned her neck like a crabapple flower.
It had to be acknowledged that she truly deserved the title of the number one beauty in Pingcheng, and it wasn’t without reason.
Wei Luo’s gaze traced from her forehead to her neckline, noting the delicate skin emitting a faint fragrance.
He enveloped her in his arms.
Yin Hui didn’t dare to move, closing her eyes before she could clearly see his face, her long eyelashes trembling uneasily.
