Reborn Lady - Chapter 391
Ji Xianxian lingered in the Shu Mansion for quite some time, until Fu Shan, Wang Junfang, Wei Ying, and Wei Shan arrived one after another. Even then, she hesitated to leave.
“The Third sister-in-law seems overjoyed, but why does the Second sister-in-law seem even happier than you?” Wei Ying inquired quietly to Yin Hui.
Yin Hui glanced at Ji Xianxian and could easily discern her thoughts.
As for Wei Luo, he had gone to the cabinet on the first day, staying until nightfall, then met with Emperor Yongping before hurriedly departing from the palace.
Yin Hui and the three siblings waited for him in the front yard hall.
As Wei Luo entered the yard, Wei Ning dashed out first. She seemed eager to embrace her father and jump once more. However, just three steps away, Wei Ning halted and offered a respectful salute with a smile. “This daughter pays respects to the Crown Prince,” she greeted.
With a gentle smile, Wei Luo reached out and ruffled his daughter’s hair, whispering softly, “That’s enough for today, not in the future.”
Of course, Wei Ning understood. Her uncle had passed away not long ago, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for their family to flaunt their happiness in public.
“Father,” Wei Heng and Wei Xun stood beneath the eaves, one on the left and the other on the right, saluting their father simultaneously, admiration shining in their eyes.
Wei Luo nodded impassively and glanced towards the interior.
Yin Hui wanted to mimic his composure, but alas, she could never conceal her emotions—neither her anger nor her disdain, just as she couldn’t hide her happiness.
Thus, she chided him playfully with a smile, “Why did you come back so late? We haven’t eaten yet.”
Wei Luo responded calmly, “Some matters detained me. I’ll go change my clothes. Have someone prepare a meal.”
With those words, he cast one last glance at Yin Hui before heading indoors.
The children were all present, and Yin Hui didn’t press him further. By the time Wei Luo emerged after changing into his usual attire, dinner was already laid out and steaming.
“Father, when did the Emperor make his decision?” Wei Ning inquired with a smirk.
Wei Luo paused for a moment before recounting the story of his father summoning the four brothers for a discussion.
Wei Ning’s eyes widened. “That’s it?”
Wei Luo nodded, maintaining a composed demeanor.
Wei Heng chimed in, addressing his sister, “The Emperor must have reached a decision long ago, and the reasons were all outlined in the Imperial Decree.”
Having reviewed the Imperial Decree multiple times, Wei Heng could recite it.
Wei Ning chuckled and remarked, “You never seek recognition and remain modest even in our presence.”
Though they were all family, Wei Luo wasn’t accustomed to the attention being directed solely at him like this. Looking at his daughter, he said, “Alright, let’s eat quickly and then go to bed early.”
Wei Ning obediently began to eat.
Wei Heng and Wei Xun, while less lively than their sister, spoke less but their admiration for their father was no less evident.
There was no need to review homework that night. After dinner, the three siblings strolled away, chatting and laughing.
Back in the inner room, Yin Hui tugged at Wei Luo’s belt, fixing him with a determined gaze.
“Why didn’t you tell me when you knew about it yesterday?” She demanded, seeking an explanation.
Wei Luo took her hand gently and explained, “I hadn’t received the imperial decree yet. I was afraid you would be happy for no reason.”
Yin Hui shook her head, her eyes glowing with affection as they met his cold, handsome face. “I wouldn’t be happy for no reason. Father is wise.”
Wei Luo chuckled and playfully pinched her ear. “So you trust me?”
Yin Hui simply smiled, her trust in him unwavering.
Every scar on his body symbolized the immense contributions he had made during the Southern and Northern Wars, and every late return carried with it his concern for the welfare of the people.
If a man like him wasn’t fit to be a Crown Prince, then who was?
“You are the best,” Yin Hui whispered as she pulled him into her embrace. Standing on tiptoe, she wrapped her arms around his neck and spoke intimately, her words laden with admiration and love.
Wei Luo gazed at Yin Hui, her cheeks flushed with joy and passion shining brightly in her eyes, and couldn’t help but smile as he gently pressed his forehead against hers. “You too,” he murmured softly.
He had never encountered all the women in the world, but Wei Luo knew without a doubt that Yin Hui was the best of them all. If he hadn’t married her, he doubted he would have become the person he was then.
In the palace, Concubine Li found Emperor Yongping and cried sadly.
Why did he say he loved her the most? Empress Renxiao was dead, but her cousin would rather not give her the vacant Empress sea. But even gave the Crown Prince seat to Concubine Shun’s son.
Concubine Li felt bad.
The former little cousin had become an old woman, but she could still cry so aggrieved. Emperor Yongping smiled, patted her trembling shoulder, and said, “If the Second Son was as promising as the Third Son, would he not surpass him? If you want to blame someone, blame the Second Son for being useless.”
It would be better not to say that; Concubine Li cried even more sadly.
Emperor Yongping coaxed her, and in the evening of the next day, he went to Concubine Shun’s Xianfu Hall.
When Concubine Shun saw him, she couldn’t hide her smile at all, and she was very flattered. “The Emperor gave such an important position to the Third Son; can he do it?”
When she entered the Yan Palace, she just wanted to live in peace and not die. She never expected to be the Empress Dowager.
A smiling face was always more pleasing than a crying face. Emperor Yongping patted Concubine Shun’s hand, saying, “I believe him, why do you, his own mother, still question it?”
Concubine Shun hurriedly said, “I don’t question it; the Third Son is like you. It will be no problem for him to be a Crown Prince.”
Emperor Yongping raised his eyebrows slightly, saying, “How is the Third Son like me?”
Concubine Shun looked at him, lowered her eyes, and said with a smile. “I was very scared when I saw you for the first time. I’m also panicking towards him.”
These words immediately brought back Emperor Yongping’s memories of his youth, and he became more gentle towards Concubine Shun.
