Reborn Lady - Chapter 370
The celebration banquet in the palace concluded, and Wei Luo and Wei Heng made their way to Xianfu Hall.
At such banquets, Wei Luo was obliged to toast with others, leaving him smelling of alcohol. Thankfully, the weather was cooler now, and he didn’t sweat much. Otherwise, his mother, Concubine Shun, might have frowned upon him.
Surprisingly, Wei Heng also smelled of alcohol.
Yin Hui stared at him incredulously. “Have you been drinking too?”
After scrutinizing her son, she shifted her gaze to Wei Luo, seemingly blaming him for not keeping a closer eye on Wei Heng.
Wei Luo silently accepted the face towel handed over by his mother, meeting her fierce gaze with pursed lips as he wiped his face.
Wei Heng explained with a smile, “Mother, don’t worry. I didn’t drink much. The wine from other people’s bowls spilled on me.”
Yin Hui nodded firmly. “That’s how it should be. Alcohol is not good for you. Drink as little as possible.”
She couldn’t forget how Wen Ruyue’s ex-husband, Xue Huan, had met his demise. Drinking had harmed his body, and she couldn’t allow her son’s youth to be marred by it.
As Wei Heng listened to his mother’s words of concern while wiping his face, a smile crept onto his lips.
The family spent some time with Concubine Shun before preparing to leave the palace.
On their way out, they encountered Wei Xuan’s family. Wei Xuan appeared to be drunk; his cheeks were flushed, and he needed assistance from the palace servants to walk.
Fu Shan glanced at the still calm Wei Luo, then at her own husband, shaking her head in disgust.
Ba Lang, Jiu Lang, and Xiao Bao looked at their handsome and majestic Third Uncle, and then at their father’s unkempt beard, displaying expressions of disgust.
Yin Hui smiled and said to Fu Shan, “Let’s all return to the mansion first, and we can meet again another day.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Wei Xuan caught sight of Wei Hao. He was about to approach and continue urging the Third Brother to drink, but was restrained by Fu Shan’s arm and forcefully pulled back.
After exiting the palace gate, both families boarded their carriages.
Because the children were all grown up, the carriage felt crowded with five people, but no one minded such a reunion.
Wei Ning looked at her father with admiration, saying, “Father still holds his liquor well. Fourth Uncle was about to pass out.”
Wei Luo nodded in agreement.
Wei Heng refrained from telling his sister that it wasn’t because their father was a good drinker, but rather because he commanded too much respect as a general, and the others dared not get close to him..
“Are you hurt?” Yin Hui asked the father and son, though her gaze was mainly fixed on her son.
Wei Heng replied with a smile, “Any minor injuries have long since healed.”
During the Northern Expedition, he, Da Lang, and San Lang had followed their grandfather, the Emperor. Their grandfather was always surrounded by elite soldiers and had assigned guards to protect them. Only San Lang had fallen off his horse and injured his arm, but he had since recovered.
As they chatted all the way back to the mansion, Wei Luo suggested upon disembarking, “Let’s rest for a while. We can continue our conversation later this evening.”
Yin Hui gave him an indifferent glance.
Wei Xun and Wei Ning joined their eldest brother, while their parents caught up with each other, and the three siblings engaged in lively conversation.
As Yin Hui accompanied Wei Luo to the bathroom, she continued to express concern for her son. “Is Ah Heng truly uninjured?” She asked.
Wei Luo shook his head in confirmation.
Satisfied with that, Yin Hui then turned to her husband. “And what about you?” She inquired.
Wei Luo entered the washroom, walking towards the screen with his back turned to her. “See for yourself,” he replied.
Yin Hui followed suit, undressing him and carefully examining her husband’s muscular body.
After more than half an hour, Wei Luo helped Yin Hui back to the inner room.
At the beginning of the year, the couple had still been in mourning for Empress Renxiao. Even if they engaged in secret encounters during that time, they dared not be too bold. However, after half a year apart, Wei Luo longed for his wife deeply.
That afternoon, the couple hardly exchanged words, their actions speaking volumes as they savored each other’s company.
After the celebration banquet, the Crown Prince was called by Emperor Yongping to the Qianyuan Hall for questioning, and Da Lang and San Lang returned to the East Hall first.
The two sons accompanied their grandfather on his journey northward. Xu Qingwan, perhaps the most anxious person in the capital, finally had a moment alone with her sons. She gazed at Da Lang and then at San Lang, her eyes gradually welling up with tears as she felt a mix of distress and pride.
Her two sons had both matured significantly. Da Lang possessed both civil and military skills, while San Lang, though young, displayed remarkable bravery. After several years of experience, he might even rival the two martial arts experts, Wei Luo and Wei Xuan.
“Mother, please don’t cry. As you can see, we are both fine,” Da Lang reassured her with a smile.
Xu Qingwan chuckled, wiping away her tears with a handkerchief, and spoke softly, “There’s so much I want to discuss with you both, just as your father does. Let’s wait until he returns, and we can talk together. Now, go and rest.”
Da Lang and San Lang, weary from their journey and the wine they had consumed, needed to freshen up. They bid their mother farewell and took their leave.
At twenty-one and eighteen years old respectively, Da Lang and San Lang had likely formed plans with their companions upon their return home.
Those maids had been carefully chosen by Xu Qingwan herself, and she trusted them to be honest and responsible. She couldn’t help but wonder about the prospective wives her father-in-law would select for her sons next year.
Regardless, Xu Qingwan was immensely satisfied that her sons had returned from the battlefield unscathed. No matter how much favor the Meng family received, her sons should not strive to surpass her.
Seated in the main room, Xu Qingwan’s smile never waned. After an unspecified amount of time, a servant announced that the Crown Prince had returned.
Xu Qingwan promptly made her way to the front yard to greet her husband.
During the three months when Empress Renxiao was bedridden due to illness, the Crown Prince was deeply concerned about his mother’s well-being. His worry led to his own weight loss, primarily due to a decrease in his food intake. Afterwards, his diet gradually returned to normal, and he also regained his former blessing. Not particularly fat, but Xu Qingwan had seen him being gentle and handsome when he was young, and compared to his bulging abdomen at this time, she would feel regretful in the end.
