Reborn Lady - Chapter 345
Xiao Xun felt reassured by his mother’s presence.
After her son fell asleep, Yin Hui returned to the main room, where she found Wei Luo already sitting on the bed with a book in hand.
While she was combing her hair, Yin Hui informed Wei Luo about her plan to send Xiao Xun to the palace the next morning.
Wei Luo glanced over and remarked, “He’s nine years old; he needs to learn to do things by himself.”
Yin Hui responded, “Yes, but it should be done step by step. Xiao Xun is so sensible, and he will let me know when he truly doesn’t need my help.”
Observing the brightness in her eyes, Wei Luo simply shook his head, indicating his disagreement but choosing not to argue further.
Yin Hui felt satisfied with Wei Luo. As she approached the bed, she reminded him, “When you check Xiao Xun’s homework tomorrow, make sure to have a better attitude. With Xiao Heng gone, Xiao Xun might be feeling more nervous without his older brother around.”
Wei Luo thought of his son’s nervousness around him.
His son was really a copy of his mother when she first got married to him.
But the current Yin Hui dared to boss Wei Luo around.
Wei Luo put down the book and leaned towards Yin Hui.
Yin Hui widened her eyes in surprise.
Wei Luo, feeling a bit playful, responded first, “Got it.”
After calling for water once, Yin Hui lazily leaned into Wei Luo’s arms, feeling a bit sleepy but also worried about Xiao Heng.
“I wonder if he’s asleep by now,” she mumbled.
Wei Luo comforted her by patting her on the shoulder. “Xiao Heng is resilient, like me. Don’t worry.”
Yin Hui soon fell asleep under Wei Luo’s comforting touch.
Wei Luo waited for Yin Hui to fall asleep before returning to his own bed. Occasionally in winter, he would hug Yin Hui to sleep. However, it was already hot now, and if they slept together, they would definitely kick the quilt away.
After lying down, Wei Luo looked outside the window but couldn’t sleep for a while.
Da Lang and San Lang were the children of the Crown Prince, and naturally, the subordinates held them in high regard. Er Lang was someone who couldn’t tolerate grievances and would promptly address any dissatisfaction. As long as Si Lang follows Er Lang, he could enjoy similar treatment. However, Xiao Heng, who neither had the prominent status of Da Lang nor Er Lang’s domineering, may easily be overlooked, despite his sensible nature being an advantage.
Wei Luo had been accustomed to such situations since childhood, so he didn’t pay too much attention. However, when it was his son’s turn, he couldn’t help but feel a little distressed.
As night fell, Emperor Yongping and his entourage were ready to rest. Instead of staying at a post station, Emperor Yongping decided to camp outside with the accompanying officials and guards.
Behind the Emperor’s large tent, five smaller tents were set up in a row, each housing one of the Emperor’s grandsons.
Emperor Yongping had just finished speaking with several guard commanders when Eunuch Hai asked if he wanted to wash his feet and rest. Waving his hand, Emperor Yongping exited the tent and went to check on Da Lang first.
Da Lang was in the process of washing his feet, his trouser legs rolled up to his knees, revealing strong calves. Unlike the Crown Prince, Da Lang excelled in both civil and martial arts. Despite his advanced age, he demonstrated exceptional prowess in both fields among Emperor Yongping’s grandsons.
Impressed by his grandson, Emperor Yongping inquired if Dalang was accustomed to the journey and advised him to rest.
Da Lang heard movement and understood that Emperor Yongping had gone to Er Lang’s side as well.
As Emperor Yongping approached Er Lang’s tent, he overheard Er Lang’s complaint from inside, “There’s a cricket here, catch it quickly!” Servants rushed to fulfill Er Lang’s request.
Emperor Yongping chose not to enter the tent.
San Lang was already lying down, but upon seeing his Imperial Grandfather, he quickly sat up, barefoot. Emperor Yongping gestured for his grandson to lie back down.
Just as San Lang was about to comply, Emperor Yongping caught a faint whiff of foot odor. Glancing at San Lang’s feet, he noticed the boy yawning sleepily, tears welling in his eyes.
While it was understandable for a young child to feel sleepy, perhaps San Lang was too lazy to attend to his personal hygiene.
Emperor Yongping, not wanting to endure the unpleasant smell any longer, offered a few words of concern before leaving his tent. The boy soon fell asleep.
Entering Si Lang’s tent, Emperor Yongping detected a faint scent of insect repellent herbs. He gently touched his grandson’s shoulder. Despite Si Lang’s lifelong frailty, Emperor Yongping hoped that this journey would strengthen his body.
Leaving Si Lang’s tent, only Wu Lang remained. Without formalities, Emperor Yongping walked directly into the tent, where he found Xiao Heng sitting next to an oil lamp, writing with ink.
“Grandfather!” Xiao Heng exclaimed upon seeing Emperor Yongping, promptly setting aside his writing utensils and standing up.
Emperor Yongping approached, picked up the paper, and examined it. It was a letter from Xiao Heng to his family. Although the day’s journey had been uneventful, the letter conveyed the young man’s excitement about his first long trip, devoid of any complaints or despondent words.
“You’ve only been away from home for a day, and you’re already writing a letter?” Emperor Yongping asked with a smile.
Xiao Heng explained, “I’ll write a page whenever I have free time, and I’ll send them to my mother when I’ve accumulated enough.”
Emperor Yongping nodded approvingly and asked affectionately, “Who was the most reluctant to leave Beijing this time?”
Xiao Heng lowered his eyes and replied softly, “I’m a little worried about my brother.”
“Why?” Inquired Emperor Yongping.
“He hasn’t been to the studying hall by himself, and I’m afraid he’s not used to it,” Xiao Heng explained.
He was worried that Liu Lang would bully his brother. He wasn’t that worried about Ba Lang. (Ba Lang was not easily bullied)
Emperor Yongping thought of Xiao Xun obediently doing his homework in the studying hall and concluded that he was quite sensible.
“Let’s go on a journey together again. Qi Lang is also growing up. Grandfather will take you and your brother,” Emperor Yongping assured him. He resolved not to grant his children and grandchildren the right to join the army; what needed to be cultivated still required potency.
