Reborn Lady - Chapter 300
Jinling’s early spring was at times hot and cold. One day, it could be sunny enough to wear summer clothes, but the next day, it turned so cold that people wanted to burn charcoal to stay warm.
In the first month of February, Xiao Ning fell ill. She had a fever, a runny nose, and a cough. She was unwell during the day, struggled to sleep at night, and lost a considerable amount of weight.
First, Xiao Ning, then Xiao Heng and Xiao Xun also developed runny noses. Fearing that it might affect the other children, Yin Hui sent someone to the palace early to request leave for the children.
In reality, it wasn’t only the three siblings; there were also children in other mansions who were sick, including Er Lang, Si Lang, and Xiao Zhuang of the Chu Mansion.
Ji Xianxian also made a special trip to the Shu Mansion to inquire when the three fell ill.
Yin Hui suspected that if Si Lang hadn’t fallen ill first, Ji Xianxian might have blamed Xiao Ning for being the source of the disease.
Usually, when Ji Xianxian was angry at others, Yin Hui didn’t take it to heart. However, when it came to her children, Yin Hui was deeply upset. When Ji Xianxian left, she didn’t go to see her off.
By mid-February, the three siblings recovered from their illnesses one after another. Though they looked pitiful when sick, they quickly regained their former energy upon recovery and enjoyed their meals.
Yin Hui was happy about their recovery, but within two days, she also began to experience a sore throat, which soon turned into a cough.
Fearing that she might spread it to the children again, Yin Hui no longer allowed them to visit.
Jinzhan and Yinzhan could manage the children, but Wei Luo proved unstoppable.
Yin Hui fell into a deep afternoon sleep due to the medication. When she heard some movement in a daze, she opened her eyes and saw Wei Luo sitting by the bed.
Subconsciously, Yin Hui pulled up the quilt to cover her mouth, glanced around, pointed to the veil on the opposite table, and instructed Wei Luo, “Bring it.”
Wei Luo brought it to her.
After Yin Hui put on her veil, he supported her and sat at the head of the bed. The windows in the distance were open, and the cool spring breeze wafted in with a faint fragrance of plum blossoms, replacing the lingering medicine scent in the room.
“Are you thirsty?” Wei Luo asked. Her face was too red, and the corners of her eyes were dry.
Yin Hui nodded.
Wei Luo brought over the pot and a bowl and poured water for her after sitting down.
Yin Hui glanced at his handsome profile, then quickly looked away, asking hoarsely, “What time is it?”
Wei Luo replied, “It’s time for dinner.”
After speaking, he handed over the bowl.
Yin Hui took it, turned her face away, and drank with her back to him.
Wei Luo stepped away. While sipping water, she noticed him stopping in front of the washstand, wetting a towel, wringing it dry, and walking back.
“Wipe your face, and you’ll feel better.”
The towel was actually prepared for her.
Yin Hui took the towel with lowered eyes and said in a low voice, “I am very sick; you go out quickly. I’m not around, so you spend more time with the children.”
Wei Luo could sense her uneasiness, genuinely worried that he might also fall ill. So he nodded and went out.
The warmth brought her comfort, delivered by her usually indifferent husband. If she hadn’t known that he was about to bring another woman back, Yin Hui would have undoubtedly recovered immediately. But she knew what would happen later.
Yin Hui’s illness lasted longer than the children’s. Wei Luo even brought the Imperial Doctor from the palace to diagnose and treat her.
Maybe the Imperial Doctor’s prescription was more effective. After drinking it for a few days, Yin Hui finally recovered completely in early March.
At that moment, the weather had also stabilized into a warm spring season, and the Shu Mansion was adorned with flowers. In the afternoon, Xiao Heng and Xiao Xun returned from the palace, and Yin Hui took the three siblings to visit the garden together.
Wei Luo came back early that day, and upon hearing the maid mention that the four of them, mother and children, were in the garden, he went to look for them.
Yin Hui and her children were in the Taoran Hall.
The two peach and cherry trees in the backyard were in bloom, and these flowers would eventually turn into fruits. Xiao Ning counted the trees one by one, with Heng and Xun following their younger sister.
Wei Luo entered the Taoran Hall and saw her sitting at the north gate of the main room, facing the direction of the children, only revealing a smiling side face.
Her health had improved, and it might be for this reason that Wei Luo actually sensed a touch of sadness in her smile.
Wei Luo walked towards her.
When Yin Hui heard footsteps, she turned her head and saw him. The smile on her face faded, but soon she began to smile again.
Of course, he observed it, but she denied it, so what was the use of him asking again?
“By the way, are you going to do spring plowing again this year?” Yin Hui took the initiative to chat, “Are you going to take the children to plant in the garden this year?”
Yin Hui thought of the pastoral fun of the family last year, and there was a smile in her voice.
Detecting that her mood was better from her voice, Wei Luo lifted her quilt.
“Why did you lose so much weight?”
In February, the children were sick first, and then she got sick. The couple had hardly been intimate, so her weight loss was even more shocking to Wei Luo.
Yin Hui tilted her head, not wanting to speak much.
Wei Luo turned her face, the light came through, his face was stern, as if he was examining her.
Yin Hui had no choice but to twitch the corners of her mouth and joke with a smile, “Isn’t it better? I heard that thin beauties are more flattering.”
She was a girl raised by the richest family. If she ate less, her grandfather would be the first to worry. So Yin Hui had never been abstinent in diet, deliberately trying to be a skinny beauty. Her face was small and thin, and her figure gradually changed from a young girl to plump with age. Fortunately, she was plump where she should be and slender at other places.
Ji Xianxian came to touch her wrist like that; otherwise, no one would know that she was actually very healthy.
“Who said that?” Wei Luo asked coldly.
Yin Hui didn’t answer.
Wei Luo felt a trace of sourness in her, smiled suddenly, and kissed her earlobes while saying, “Don’t believe such words, eat well, and regain your weight soon.”
