Wei Xuan looked behind her and asked, “Third Sister-in-law, where is my third brother?”

Yin Hui replied, “He is teaching Wu Lang and Qi Lang. They have to study for three hours every day.”

Wei Xuani’s handsome face displayed shock, disbelief, and admiration in succession. “My third brother is powerful enough; Wu Lang and Qi Lang are willing to listen to him obediently?”

Yin Hui affirmed, “Yes, they are more disciplined than in the study hall, probably because they are afraid of your third brother.”

Wei Xuan glanced at Ba Lang, who was holding his hand, and his eyes lit up. “My third brother is giving lectures. How about I send Ba Lang over there?”

Fu Shan tugged at his sleeves, expressing concern, “Aren’t you making trouble for your third brother? Taking care of a son and a nephew is not the same thing.”

Wei Xuan glared at her, instructing her not to talk too much. He was already annoyed enough by his son. If he could have an hour of peace every day, he would be grateful to his third brother for the rest of his life.

Yin Hui smiled and said, “I can’t decide this matter; I have to ask his opinion.”

Wei Xuan made a grand gesture of apology, saying, “I’m sorry for the trouble.”

Yin Hui signaled the wet nurse and Jinzhan to watch over Xiao Ning as she went to the small study on the ship.

Coincidentally, Xiao Heng and Xiao Xun were practicing calligraphy. Yin Hui opened the curtain and getured to Wei Luo, who was reading a book. After Wei Luo came out, she softly explained what had happened.

Wei Luo frowned and went to the bow of the ship. 

Wei Xiao called out, “Hello, Third Brother.”

Wei Luo ignored him and directly asked Ba Lang, “Do you want to study with Qi Lang?” Considering Ba Lang’s aversion to reading, Wei Luo questioned him directly.

“No,” Ba Lang broke away from his father’s hand and hid behind his mother.

Wei Xuan was about to scold his son, but Wei Luo stopped him, “Speak if you have something to say, don’t beat the kid.”

Wei Xuan confided in the third brother about his concerns, expressing that the child didn’t have any interest in studying. He believed that if they allowed the child to waste time on the ship for a month, it would be even more challenging to change these bad habits once they reached Beijing.

Wei Luo, whether out of concern for his nephew or a willingness to assist his brother, agreed to teach Ba Lang first.

The two ships were rearranged to be side by side, and Wei Xuan handed his son over to Wei Luo.

When Ba Lang entered the small study, Xiao Heng and Xiao Xun’s eyes lit up. The ship felt stuffy, and having a new companion was a welcome change.

Yin Hui sent a small table over and then discreetly hid behind the curtain to observe. The three children knelt on cushions, and Wei Luo began teaching Ba Lang how to read, starting with the “Three Classics”.

After obediently listening for a cup of tea’s worth of time, Ba Lang couldn’t sit still. He pulled Xiao Xun’s sleeve and poked Xiao Heng’s back. When Wei Luo glared at him, Ba Lang flinched.

Fu Shan snorted, “I was just reasoning with you. Who told you to wrong me first.”

Wei Xuan, still upset, jumped onto Wei Jing’s ship. Wei Jing was conversing with a housemaid and immediately asked her to leave upon seeing his fourth brother approaching.

Upon arriving at Wei Jing’s side, Wei Xuan felt the tranquility and comfort on his fifth brother’s side. “It’s better on your side. On my side, Ba Lang is causing trouble, and your fourth sister-in-law is arguing with me. Honestly, I miss them when I’m not at home. Why are they so annoying after I came back?”

Wei Jing smiled and said, “It’s not convenient on the ship. Everything will be fine when you arrive in the capital. You and the fourth sister-in-law had a better relationship in the palace before.”

Wei Xuan nodded, “That’s the truth.”

Wei Jing continued to persuade, “You and the third brother have not been here for the past two years. Don’t panic. One time, Ba Lang caught a cold, and when we went to visit, the fourth sister-in-law cried so bad, probably terrified.” 

Wei Xuan’s expression changed, asking, “When did it happen?”

Wei Jing detailed Ba Lang’s illness, “Fourth Brother, you’ve been fighting outside and finally came back. How could the fourth sister-in-law tell you these old things that might make you uncomfortable?”

He jumped back to his ship. Ba Lang was playing on the other deck carefree, while Wei Xuan silently watched his son for a while before entering the cabin.

Fu Shan was making clothes for her son. When she saw him, she took a sharp look and continued her needlework. Wei Xuan leaned over from behind, hugged her waist, and put his head on her shoulder.

Just as she was about to drive him away, she heard him whisper, “You have worked hard for these three years, and you have raised our son well. I am very happy.”

Fu Shan paused and said strangely, “Why are you saying this suddenly?”

Wei Xuam replied, “I was talking to my fifth brother, and he said that Ba Lang had been ill in the fall of the year before last.”

Fu Shan understood and didn’t say anything.

Wei Xuan hugged her and apologized. Fu Shan was not so narrow-minded, and she smiled after a while, and the couple became sticky again.
