Reborn Lady - Chapter 203
When Yin Hui was still unmarried, she shone like a jewel in the palm of her grandfather, standing out as the moon among the stars in the eyes of her relatives and friends. Regardless of their personal feelings toward her, female relatives could only utter flattering words in her presence.
Upon becoming the daughter-in-law of King Yan and attaining a noble status, Yin Hui found herself even more warmly received by her female relatives. She relished the welcoming atmosphere.
It wasn’t merely about enjoying the attention from others, but rather, she yearned for the high spirits, joyful expressions, and witty humor that characterized their conversations. This was a scene familiar to Yin Hui since childhood, and experiencing it again during a family dinner after many years made her feel a sense of warmth. Even trivial discussions were a source of delight for Yin Hui.
During the banquet at the palace, maintaining a dignified smile, graceful dining, and sharing interesting stories required caution. The concept of “protocol” was deeply ingrained in everyone’s minds, not just for Yin Hui and the other women but also for the Wei brothers. With the King observing them, unless he eventually resided separately, both sons and daughters-in-law had to act in accordance with the family’s patriarch.
Driven by a desire for the lively atmosphere of common people gatherings, Yin Hui stayed until the end of the banquet. Subsequently, she accompanied her grandfather and Yin Lang in bidding farewell to the guests.
By the time the last guest left, it was already a quarter past hour, and most people had already finished their dinner break.
“Ah Hui, go and check on the third master. It’s getting late. If he wakes up, you should return home earlier.”
With the presence of his granddaughter, grandsons, and son-in-law to celebrate his birthday, the elderly man felt content.
Yin Hui smiled and replied, “There is no rush, Grandfather. The third master mentioned that we will head home after dinner tonight.”
She came to celebrate her grandfather’s birthday, but everyone was busy entertaining guests at noon. Her family couldn’t get together at all. That evening meal would be the real family feast.
Yin Yong comfortingly remarked, “The third master treats you well. Ah Hui, be sensible, and don’t cause any trouble for him during ordinary times.”
Casting a brief look at her grandfather, Yin Hui took the golden cup and gracefully walked away.
According to Yin Lang, in the midst of the banquet, Chang Feng approached Wei Luo, reporting that Xiao Xun was crying for an unknown reason. Wei Luo left to attend to the child and did not return.
In reality, Wei Luo was not fond of socializing, using his son as an excuse to leave early. However, with Wei Luo’s temperament, he managed to persist until the middle of the banquet, giving her grandfather enough respect.
Upon arriving at the hall, the maid informed Yin Hui that Xiao Xun was sleeping in the wing room with the nurses, and Xiao Heng rested in the upper room with the third master.
A rather amusing situation unfolded; Wei Luo, who had never coaxed a child to sleep, used Xiao Xun as an excuse to leave the table but found himself entangled by Xiao Heng.
After refreshing herself in the main room, Yin Hui quietly entered the inner room. Approaching the bed, she saw the father and son lying together. Wei Luo was wearing a jacket, sleeping upright against the bed, while Xiao Heng occupied most of the bed, his small body slanted, arms opened, and one foot pressed against Wei Luo’s leg.
Wei Luo emitted a faint scent of alcohol, his fair face contrasting with Xiao Heng’s flushed complexion from sleep. The father and son’s shared features were more apparent when seen together.
After observing them for a while, Yin Hui intended to turn around.
“Where are you going?” The man behind her asked in a low voice. Yin Hui looked over in surprise. Wei Luo had opened his eyes at some point, his gaze clear.
Yin Hui smiled and replied, “Did you stay up all this time, or did you just wake up?”
Wei Luo sat up, glanced at Xiao Heng, and said, “Just woke up.”
Answering his unspoken question, Yin Hui said, “I’m going outside to rest on the couch for a while.”
Wei Luo nodded, put on his shoes, rolled up a long quilt, and placed it where he was just lying to prevent Xiao Heng from rolling down while asleep.
The couple entered the second room together.
The afternoon sun bathed the couch by the window in its warm glow. Yin Hui gracefully climbed onto the couch and pulled the long curtain, casting a shadow over the glazed window. The room instantly darkened, providing a cool respite.
After arranging the pillows, Yin Hui turned to the man standing by the couch and asked, “Would you like to lie down a bit longer?”
It seemed that, apart from resting, he had nothing else on his agenda at the moment.
As expected, Wei Luo joined her on the couch.
The couple rested on the pillows. Yin Hui, feeling tired though not sleepy, noticed that Wei Luo was also gazing at the ceiling with open eyes. Placing her hands on his chest, she asked softly, “You don’t enjoy socializing, but stayed in the banquet for a good amount of time. Thank you for your hard work.”
Wei Luo held her hand, glanced at her, and said, “Once I’m gone, they can talk and laugh freely.”
He disliked socializing. However, if other guests chose to overlook him like his brothers, he could enjoy his drinks freely, pour himself a glass, and simply be an attentive listener while indulging in a full meal. Unfortunately, the guests of the Yin family didn’t dare to adopt the same normal approach. They held him in awe. If Wei Luo didn’t initiate a conversation, the guests refrained from speaking casually. If he ate a dish, others hesitated to touch it again.
Wei Luo disliked that kind of atmosphere, so he preferred not to linger at the table.
Yin Hui offered a flattering comment, “You were indeed taking care of them.”
Wei Luo gently squeezed her hand and inquired, “Is Yin Lang going to be engaged?”
Yin Hui responded, “He has someone he likes and plans to marry her. Grandfather also approves. Perhaps they’ll invite a matchmaker to formalize it in the near future.”
Wei Luo asked, “Which girl?”
Yin Hui explained, “My cousin. I might have mentioned her to you before, from the Xie family. Do you recall? Our grandfathers are cousins.”
Wei Luo recalled, “I did see Mr. Xie at the banquet, and there’s another Mr. Xie.”
Yin Hui guessed, “Cousin Huai’an, right? He’s going to be Ah Lang’s brother-in-law from now on. Naturally, he had to attend today.”
Wei Luo remarked, “Observing him, he appears to be a scholar.”
