Raising Babies in the 70s - Chapter 62
Qin Rou not only planted it herself, but also got the two little childrens to plant it. Instead of letting them plant anything else, she let the two little guys manage two pots of leeks. Yes, under the climate conditions, the survival rate was the highest. So the best reward would be the leek.
How embarrassing it would be to let the childrens grow small tomatoes and strawberries, in case they died, in case they didn’t bear fruit, in case… too many in case, but leeks were different.
A large pot of leeks was gratifying. After harvesting, they could also be mixed with seafood, fish, etc. to make dumplings, and children could experience the joy of harvesting when eating dumplings.
In order not to discourage the two childrens, it was best to let them cultivate leeks first and become baby leeks.
Or maybe be the ones who cut leeks.
“Okay, stick your little tag in your leek pot. From now on, you two are responsible for the leek.”
Qin Rou asked them to grow leeks, and also asked them to write a leek growing diary. Of course, these two children didn’t know any words, so they couldn’t write. What Qin Rou suggested was for them to draw the growth process of their little leeks.
In addition to assigning them the task of raising leeks, Qin Rou also gave them the honorable task of managing the chicken coop.
She got a lot of blue bricks from the orderly friend in the colony yard, and together with the two childrens, and Li Qinghua and her son, they built a beautiful chicken coop in their yard.
It was a kind of two-bedroom room.
The small grass nest that Qin Rou built was also placed in it.
“I built a chicken coop!” Xia Mingxi was a little unsure.
Chen Jingyi’s eyes also sparkled.
“It’s so beautiful! Mom, I also want to raise chickens,” Liu Yue said to his mother. All his friends had chickens, so he couldn’t live without chickens.
Li Qinghua was also a little subtly tempted. She didn’t know why, but she was.
Logically speaking, she was used to growing vegetables, raising chickens, raising ducks and feeding pigs. She finally got rid of that painful work and came to Qiongzhou Island. Wasn’t it good to be idle? Why was she still looking for something to do?
Not to mention raising chickens, raising pigs was the most flavorful. But living in such a beautiful little house, Li Qinghua never thought of raising these things. She could keep the jackfruit tree because she thought it was fragrant.
There was no shortage of meat to eat there, fish, shrimp, crab, could be steamed, and boiled to eat. They also got a little meat ticket every month, just to buy a few pounds of pork to satisfy their cravings, so why bother with other efforts?
But… the chicken coop was pretty cool.
The beautiful chicken coop was surrounded by a small fence, and there was a small pocket door in the middle. She really liked it more and more.
Li Qinghua also had a special ability. She could identify the gender of chicks.
Qin Rou held her hand, “I’ll take you to buy chickens next time.”
Of course, she couldn’t choose all females, but could choose a few more females. If only males were left, after finding out that they were all males after raising them, they would collapse.
Qin Rou took the two childrens and went to Li Qinghua’s house to happily build a chicken coop.
Then they went to buy another batch of chickens. Li Qinghua gave two little hens to Qin Rou.
Liu Kai, Political Commissar Liu hadn’t been home for two days. As soon as he got home, he heard strange noises. There was something in their yard.
His little wife actually started raising chickens?!
If it was in the past, he might be relieved, but at that time Liu Kai discovered a very terrible thing. The quilt he and Li Qinghua had when they got married was gone.
He searched the whole house over and over, but couldn’t find it. In the end, he even searched for the ashes in the kitchen, but couldn’t find any clues.
Obviously, the quilt was originally well stored in their closet, but it disappeared for no reason.
When they came to the island, he tried hard to persuade Li Qinghua that the quilt would be of no use, but she had to take it with her. She also said that it was a testimony to their marriage and that the two would build a life for a lifetime.
Yet she actually threw it away!

Actually its pretty easy to identify chicken gender. You can tell them apart by looking at their wings feather. Female have 2 section of feathers and male only have 1 long section of feathers. There are tutorial on YT to differentiate them too.
