The first customers who came in were all the elder sisters and aunts who lived nearby, but since it was the weekend, it was rare for the second and third graders to have a day off. With only one day off, they didn’t go home but instead came out in twos and threes to walk around the school for fun. When they heard the commotion, they came over to take a look.

After seeing the clothes on Jiang Ning, they touched and looked at them repeatedly. They couldn’t leave. They wanted to buy something but had no money.

They were all students who lived and ate in school. Most of their families sent food to them. Since they exchanged food stamps, they had very little pocket money. However, there were also some wealthier people who bought what Jiang Ning had.

Jiang Ning would also match each person with different colors based on their body shape and skin tone.

There were also those who had just returned from home and had some money. Originally, they just came to watch the excitement, but when they saw that the cotton-padded clothes were cheap, they wanted to buy one for their parents, so they took all their remaining money and bought five for their family members.

The news that a shop was opened, selling clothes and shoes at very cheap prices, quickly spread to the campuses on both sides of the street. Along with it, the name of the director of Jiangnan Garment Factory, who had been gossiped about, also spread.

Even people on the next street heard the noise and came to take a look.

In just one afternoon of the trial opening, Jiang Ning and Wang Yong sold more than twenty pieces of clothing.

If a piece of clothing earned 8 to 12 yuan, on average, selling more than twenty pieces resulted in a profit of more than 200 yuan.

Wang Yong was not surprised to see so much profit. It did not include the labor costs for the two of them, utility bills, and other expenses. That was just the first day, coinciding with the weekend.

He knew how deserted that street could be during non-weekend hours.

Because it was a trial opening, Jiang Ning only sold until five o’clock in the afternoon and then closed the door. The neighbor next door saw them closing so early and was surprised, “Little girl, why did you close the shop so early? Why don’t you sell for a while longer?”

Jiang Ning said, “I have something to do tonight, and we will close at five o’clock from now on.”

While packing the clothes, Jiang Ning was still wrapping up her latest shoes and sneakers. She specifically asked Wang Yong to help.

She also needed to buy clothes for Grandpa Jiang and Jiang Bai. Jiang Ning took a large-sized cotton coat, a down jacket, and a pair of size 42 sneakers, packing them in bags.

Suddenly thinking of something, she asked Wang Yong, “My grandfather won’t be able to move here until the end of the year. This house is empty. Do you want to move in here? This shop is for my grandfather. Since he’s not here, I don’t plan to sell anything. There’s no one on this street on weekdays, so you can open and close during the day, and you’ll save some rent.”

Wucheng was just a small place; the rent wasn’t expensive, but the environment wasn’t very good.

The alley where Wang Yong lived was small and dark. It was fine on sunny days, but when it rained, the alley filled with dirty black water.

Although the shop was a bit crude, it was at least clean and bright. The quilts on the beds in the back were also new. It was only a hundred meters away from Jiang Ning’s school, so it was more convenient for her.

After autumn, there would be more rain in Wucheng. Wang Yong thought about the dark and damp alley he’d return to later. He nodded and said, “Okay, I’ll move here soon.” He added, “There’s a mirror missing in the shop. I’ll buy you a mirror tomorrow.”

During that time, running around Wucheng made him familiar with the place.

Jiang Ning didn’t refuse and handed Wang Yong the money, “Deduct the taxi fare back and forth from this.”

She said sincerely, “I’ve really troubled you too much during this period.”

Wang Yong touched the back of his head and smiled sheepishly, “Anyway, I have nothing to do here every day. Just write more manuscripts for me so I can submit them on time.”

Jiang Ning smiled at him and returned to school, carrying her old clothes and the cotton coat she intended to give to Jiang Bai.

When she entered the gate, the guard didn’t see her face clearly and stopped her with his hand, “Who are you looking for?”

Jiang Ning blinked at him, saying, “Uncle, it’s me.”

The guard then looked up and saw her iconic short hair. He was stunned for a moment before saying, “It’s you.” She had changed her clothes, but it was as if she were a different person. He almost didn’t recognize her.

Since Jiang Ning didn’t have a mirror, she couldn’t see what she looked like at that moment. She couldn’t help but look down at the sweater, jacket, and pants she was wearing. They were all normal. There were absolutely no fancy clothes.

But after entering the school, more people noticed her.

At that time, it was time for everyone to come down for dinner and then go to the evening self-study. There were a lot of people on the road to the school, all of them walking from the dormitory building and canteen to the teaching building.

Jiang Ning was going in the opposite direction to them. She was going back to the dormitory. So they passed by each other face to face.

However, everyone who walked past couldn’t help but look back at her clothes.

Not only girls, but boys looked at her.

The boys didn’t think that the classmate was particularly beautiful. They thought that the clothes looked so eye-catching and special. There were so many people in front of the cafeteria, and she was like a spotlight in the crowd, attracting everyone’s attention at once, and people’s eyes couldn’t help but fall on her.

Because the director of the Political and Education Department of No. 1 High School was very strict, girls were not even allowed to wear hairpins when going to school. They could only tie their hair up with rubber bands. One could choose the color of the rubber bands at most. Plus, being an old school, the walls were covered with ivy, so the color of the entire school was dark.

The brightest clothes were probably the blue and white uniforms issued by the school, along with the youthful smiling faces of the students.

In such a simple crowd, such a bright color suddenly appeared—a bright yellow sweater and jeans. The word “good-looking” suddenly came to their minds.

After looking at the clothes, they thought of looking at the person and were shocked by the combination of the face and short hair.

Jiang Ning silently zipped up her coat, lined up to get some water, and then went upstairs.

There was still a steady stream of people coming downstairs and walking towards the cafeteria. Whenever they saw Jiang Ning, they would turn their heads and look at her.
