Exalted Toxin Lord - Chapter 34
The goon from outside had led Hua Yan and Hua La through the noisy pavilion. They crossed by a bunch of rampant thugs. It was not uncommon to see these hoodlums swearing at each other every two or so words. Punches were also frequently thrown out every time there was even the slightest disagreement.
Judging by how no one said anything about this, and even joined in if they were in the mood, it was only to be assumed that such behavior was normal here in this animal cave.
Hua Yan and Hua La soon arrived before Hua Pan. Hua Pan was a very large man. This was only to be expected of those in the Ballooning Stage. The higher one’s cultivation in the stage, the bigger they would be.
Hua Yan didn’t really understand the reason why, because he wasn’t a cultivator himself, but he wasn’t scared of Hua Pan.
If he wanted to, he could probably slaughter everyone here. There were a bunch of stray weapons lying around, so he didn’t have to worry about broken blades either.
But, Hua Yan did not want this.
Firstly, if he let his power out, he would be committing murder in an open setting again. That would only lead to what happened in his last life; he would be ganged up on by the clan and then he would have no medicine for regret because he would by someone stronger again.
Secondly, he didn’t want to indulge Frenzy too much. He felt like the more blood he shed, the madder he became. If this was the case, then he would no longer be able to protect his sister. If he submitted his will to Frenzy, he could foresee no favourable outcome.
So, Hua Yan absolutely did not want things to come to bloodshed.
Thirdly, he was not actually here to fight these goons. That was only if things progressed to the worst case scenario, assuming he antagonized them in some irredeemable way.
Hua Yan’s goal for this mission was purely to obtain information. He didn’t want to go through the guards, because they would be many times more complicated to deal with.
That was exactly why he came to Hua Pan, the next best thing. This also explained why he brought Hua La along with him. Hua La was the key to the plan that he had formed in his mind.
Hua Pan acknowledged the two of them, and the goon that had brought them in had left them to their matters. Hua Pan expected that Hua Yan would also leave, but seeing him still standing in place, Hua Pan looked towards Hua La for an explanation.
Hua La, not knowing what to say, was about to babble something incoherent, but he was interrupted by Hua Yan before he could do so.
“I’m here for a job.”
Hearing his words, Hua La wanted to drop dead! Here for a job? Hua La was sure that Hua Yan didn’t have such simple intentions! Judging by his conduct, he definitely wanted to cause some sort of trouble.
Hua La had a very bad feeling about this.
As for Hua Pan, his gaze had already shifted from Hua La to Hua Yan.
The youth standing in front of him was still in his teen years. He carried an air of maturity, but he didn’t look very strong. He only had an average build and it looked like any one of his men could wipe the floor with this boy.
Hua Pan really wondered what was giving Hua Yan such confidence. Did he perhaps think that a recommendation from Hua La would be enough to get him into Hua Pan’s legion? He must have been dreaming. Hua Pan only recruited the strong.
One of Hua Pan’s men that was watching by the side was quick to answer in place of his boss, jeering with some taunts.
“Heh, still wet behind the ears and you think you have what it takes to drink with men? Crawl away!”
Hua Yan didn’t back down to this challenge. He only replied back in an equally rude tone.
“Want to test that out? I doubt you’d be able to get anywhere with all that belly fat.”
“You!”
The goon who Hua Yan insulted, Hua Lei, was outraged by Hua Yan’s actions. He wanted to teach this kid a lesson.
He looked towards his boss, asking for permission.
Hua Pan simply gave Hua La a glance, and seeing how Hua La seemed to have no issues with it, he gave Hua Lei a nod.
“You’ll regret coming here boy!” Hua Lei screamed, jumping at Hua Yan.
Hua Yan currently did not have any weapons on him, but he would not use them anyway even if he did. He was not looking for any kind of lethal combat here. He just wanted to leave a lasting impression.
Hua Lei wasn’t the strongest amongst Hua Pan’s men. He was only in the 2nd Level of the Ballooning Stage. He was someone that was ranked at the bottom of the power hierarchy. He was even weaker than the fatties that Hua Yan had destroyed in his last life. This was exactly why Hua Pan tested Hua Yan with him.
If Hua Yan could stand his ground, then Hua Pan would consider him. If not, Hua Yan wasn’t worth his time anyway.
Grabbing a drink, Hua Pan leisurely watched the fighting take place.
Hua Lei kept charging straight at Hua Yan like a mad bull. Contrary to what one might think, despite all the meat on Continuous Ballooning Stage experts, they were much quicker than ordinary men. Hua Lei’s wild tackles probably contained the same amount of power as a charging bull.
Someone that didn’t take proper precautions against them would probably get more than a few broken bones on impact. Hua Yan was no different.
But, that was only under the condition that he could be hit.
Because, while Hua Lei was fast, he wasn’t as agile or mobile as Hua Yan. His control over intricate movements was nowhere near Hua Yan’s.
Consequently, Hua Yan was quickly able to make a fool of Hua Lei. Hua Lei could only charge around and hit the air. He couldn’t even reach Hua Yan’s sleeves.
“Come here, you!”
Losing his temper, Hua Lei decided to give Hua Yan a hard kick.
For someone like Hua Lei, there was no need to practise his technique. He had a strong body, so all he relied on was brute force. This was also what got him tripped over by Hua Yan.
All Hua Yan had to do was give Hua Lei a slight push in the right spot, where Hua Lei’s balance was completely off, and that was enough to send Hua Lei spiralling down to the floor flat on his face.
Of course, Hua Lei was not hurt by this attack, but he was quite humiliated. Some random kid had come in here and had embarrassed him in front of his brothers. Even if he killed Hua Yan here today, he would not be able to get rid of the shame!
Hua Lei took a moment to quickly get up and charged straight at Hua Yan again, much faster and wilder than before.
“I know I may be handsome, but stop throwing yourself at me like a woman!” Hua Yan taunted, only feeding Hua Lei’s madness further.
Hua Lei had gotten so angry that there was saliva flying around from his mouth. His face was red and his fists were clenched so tightly that they were bleeding. His punches were also quite exaggerated, leaving him full of openings.
Now that Hua Yan had reduced Hua Lei to nothing more than a thoughtless animal, he found avoiding him much easier. He prepared himself for a counterattack!
Hua Lei was quickly tiring himself through this kind of exertion. He kept trying to land finishing blow after finishing blow with very little success.
He still hadn’t even touched Hua Yan yet.
Just as he was planning to pull his knife out, he felt a hand at the back of his neck. In the next moment, he was unconscious and completely out cold.
Hua Pan watched with an open mouth as Hua Yan finished off Hua Lei so easily, as if wondering if Hua Yan was a Complete Deflation Stage expert in disguise.
“Who’s next?” Hua Yan called out, ignoring Hua Pan’s baffled expression and dusting off his hands as he looked towards the rest of the thugs gathered in the pavilion.
