Exalted Toxin Lord - Chapter 26
Hua Yan began to wonder what the ashes really were. Why did Frenzy place so much importance on them? To him, these ashes didn’t really seem to have any sort of significance whatsoever.
If it had been anything else, Hua Yan would have had some kind of a reason to understand, or at least try to understand. It would have been alright if it were a sword, or a pearl, or a hammer, or an elixir of some kind that he was asked to look for… but ashes?
Was this a joke? Hua Yan really couldn’t decipher Frenzy’s intentions.
What guarantee was there that the ashes hadn’t been swept away by one of the cleaners that had scrubbed the place after the fight?
If such really were the case, Hua Yan really could not think of any practical means to retrieve what he was asked to look for.
Interrogate the cleaners and find out where they had dumped all the waste?
Even if they told him such info, which was very unlikely considering his questionable status as a corpse that had just been revived, what next? Would he have to thoroughly search every nook and cranny of waste-filled landfill after landfill in pursuit of the ashes?
Hua Yan really did not understand this mission. It was too stupidly difficult and appeared to have no worthwhile merit.
It was a dumb task to begin with, so why not just ignore it? The more Hua Yan thought of it, the more reasonable this idea seemed to him. Life had to go on. He needed to resume things from where he had left off with his old body.
He did not know how much time had elapsed since he had died, so he was really anxious about what had happened to his sister.
He wanted to confirm her situation first. Before he could even make any plans, however, his mind was filled with a searing pain.
“You’ve already received the mercy of Ashura and this new body,” Frenzy echoed in a voice that carried an unquestionable power, “This new lease on life that you’ve been granted is not one that was given without its own share of conditions. You will prioritize your orders over anything else. As mentioned previously, failure is totally unacceptable.”
As Frenzy finished speaking, Hua Yan’s mind was filled with horrid visions. He was looking at himself, but it felt like he was looking at a stranger. Frenzy had overtaken his body and in its arms was a head.
For someone that had taken many heads before, this little thing should not have startled him.
Only… this was the head of Hua Yin!
Hua Yan exploded in rage! He could tolerate anything, but he could not and would not stand if Frenzy used his sister as a means of threatening him. And that was exactly what Frenzy was doing. It was showing Hua Yan these illusions to scare him!
Even though he knew it would hurt him severely, Hua Yan screamed at Frenzy in his mind.
“T… Touch her and I’ll kill you!”
Even though he had no means of actually making a move, Hua Yan kept imagining himself ripping Frenzy to pieces. Before he knew it, he had collapsed once again from over-exertion.
But, unlike how it had been previously, the perceived duration of his sleep was very short.
It was like he closed his eyes one moment, and by the time he had opened them again, he was in a new place. Hua Yan suspected that the amount of time that had passed between blinks was only a breath.
But… this was obviously not the case because it was already night time where he had awoken.
He was sure that more than a few hours had elapsed. Furthermore, he was in a new place; this was definitely not Hua Ding Manor. Additionally, there was a figure in front of him. Looking closely, Hua Yan realized it was Hua Yin!
He could mis-recognize anyone else, but it was virtually impossible for him to be unable to recognize, no matter the conditions.
She appeared to look older, but it didn’t feel as if she had aged much physically. The emotions that Hua Yan could see in her eyes told him that she had become more mature. She had gone from the previous healthy but fragile looking girl to this tough-looking but pale adult.
Hua Yan wanted to rush over to her and ask her about how she was. He wanted to reassure her that things would be better from now on. He wanted to take her away and head somewhere where the Hua Clan couldn’t bother them anymore.
But his body could not move. He was trapped in place and no amount of willpower could help him now.
Hua Yan felt Frenzy rustling from within him.
Hua Yan started to sweat as he thought of Frenzy’s previous threats. Given the current direction that things were going in, Hua Yan was hit with a very ominous feeling.
Hua Yin had yet to notice Hua Yan. She was too focused on her work. She was no longer as carefree as she used to be. She knew she needed to work to live, so that she would still be around when Hua Yan eventually came back for her.
Though it had already been more than 3 months since the incident in the manor, she had hope that Hua Yan would return to her. She did not want to think of all the possibilities of Hua Yan’s long disappearance. That wouldn’t lead to anything positive, and would only end up with her crying in helplessness, grief and despair.
So, she immersed herself with her work to distract herself from all negative thoughts.
Hua Yan saw her working hard, and seemed to have figured as much. But he didn’t even have the time to feel sorry for her, because his legs began to move!
He slowly started to approach towards Hua Yin. He even tried to make himself faint to stop the way things were now progressing, but Frenzy would not let him…
This poison was really beyond Hua Yan’s level. He literally could not resist it even in his thoughts.
Soon, he was armed with a piece of glass. Hua Yan didn’t know from where it had been picked up, since he was too preoccupied with getting his body to stop. When he felt it in his hands, his perception of danger was at an all-time high.
Sure, it might just be an ordinary piece of glass, but in Hua Yan’s hands, it was more effective than the weapons that even most of the ordinary guards used. The only prerequisite was that Hua Yan needed to be the one that was holding onto this piece of glass.
And he happened to be doing just that. Judging by the way the knife was angled, it seemed as though it was going to pierce into the back of Hua Yin any moment. This was more than likely since she continued on with her work, completely unaware of her surroundings and the threat of impending danger.
Hua Yan tightly clenched onto the glass, unwilling to move it any further. He was holding it so firmly that his palms began to bleed. He would not allow himself to do this no matter what…
What he soon realized though was that, even though he could control his palm, his entire arm was in Frenzy’s control. It didn’t matter how hard he held the knife. If his arm wasn’t in his control, then Hua Yin would inevitably be stabbed to death.
“You can only grip the blade,” Frenzy began to speak, “But beyond that, you can only swing at those who the arm tells you to. You don’t have the choice. If you want to escape from this fate, becoming stronger.”
Hua Yan’s vision once again went blank.
