“Are you going back?” A female voice sounded by the roadside.
The little girl called Yan Nu showed her tiny body from behind an old locust tree.
The black knotted tree trunk made her skin look paler than snow.
“Yes, I am going back now,” Yuan Xiang took a step back quietly.
“Will you play with me for a while?” Yan Nu stretched out her hand from behind, holding the golden ball on her little finger.
There was no wind, but the two pom poms under her hat fluttered. The white snow under her feet spread under the invisible coercion and the cold snow mist swept Yuan Xiang all over.
Most demons were pure, powerful, unreasonable and never abided by the rules of human society. They expressed their desires straightforwardly and acted only on their own preferences.
Although Yuan Xiang was unhappy, she didn’t want to fight her yet, so she reached out and took the golden ball in her hand, “Okay, then I can play with you for a while.”
She had played with this kind of ball since she was young and she was very skilled. When she raised her hand, the golden ball rolled along her arm all the way over her shoulder and then rolled down from the other arm. Before landing, she kicked it up with the toe again and the golden ball raised high. Turning high in the air, it scorched and made a pleasant clinking sound.
“Wu Yuan, come!”
“Look at me!”
Wu Yuan jumped down from Yuan Xiang’s shoulders and transformed in the air. His braids fluttered, the golden boot shined, the cat kicked the ball.
Then, the little golden ball flew toward Yan Nu and her mask-like face showed a little smile. She opened her small arms and gently caught the spinning golden ball with her forehead.
The little girl flew in the snow, with her thin brown cloak unfolding, like a moth fluttering in a world of snow. The golden ball rolled back and forth with her movements, as if it blended with her and was familiar. As it rotated around freely, the crisp ringtones spread far.
The three of them had a good time and for a while they forgot the tense atmosphere before, showing off their skills and doing their best. On the contrary, Yan Nu was the best of the three. Yuan Xiang, who had been in contact with the ball since childhood and Wu Yuan, who was agile, were far behind her.
“Okay, okay, there’s no way to complete. I can only admit defeat,” Yuan Xiang sweated and stopped while panting.
Wu Yuan turned back into a cat form and meowed several times unwillingly.
“It’s been a long time since I had such a good time. I usually play by myself,” Yan Nu stretched out her small finger against the ball and the hollow ball spun on her white fingers.
“I also had a friend who played with me.” She looked at the golden ball that had been rubbed brightly, “She was a human child who lost her way in the forest and was discovered by me.”
“I wanted to eat her at that time, but she wasn’t afraid of me at all. She even took out this golden ball and said that she would teach me to play.”
“We played together in the forest for a long time. When she was hungry, I found her something to eat and when she was sleepy, she slept with me in the cave. Later, her family found this place. She left the golden ball to me and said that she would come back to me again, so I let her go.”
When she said these words, there was a little innocent smile on her small face, like a little girl who recalled a funny childhood story. But when she said the last words, her voice suddenly became cold and it instantly changed back to a millennium banshee of a hundred years.Â
Yuan Xiang looked at the golden ball. How many years ago did this take place?
“If you just want to play, when I am free, I can come here often to play with you,” she said sincerely.
Yan Nu stopped the ball, pulled it in the palm of her hand and raised her head to look toward Yuan Xiang, “Ah Chun said the same at that time. I have been waiting here, but she never came.”
The short brown cloak on her body was slowly extending and changing, shaking and unfolding in the wind, covering the sky and turning into a huge moth.
The moth’s head was Yan Nu’s face, but it had more tentacles swaying in the wind and strange mouthparts.
“Humans, I won’t believe you anymore. Stay here and don’t go anywhere,” a buzzing voice sounded.Â
Huge moth’s wings flapped in the air.
Wu Yuan arched his back, raised his tail, his hair stood as he made a vicious deterrent sound. Compared with the huge moth several meters high, his palm-sized body was almost invisible.
He stood in front of Yuan Xiang, but his little calf was trembling with fright.
Yuan Xiang held his neck and threw him into the basket at her back, “Hide, don’t come out.”
She used four golden charms in her hand. The talisman flew and four golden armored idols appeared in the four-pillar position, holding up the precious mirror in their hand. Their faces were majestic as they shot four golden lights toward Yan Nu in the middle. Yan Nu was a ghost created by resentful spirits and was shrieked by the divine light. She flapped her wings and ascended to the sky, showing an angry look at Yuan Xiang.
The moth’s wings fanned a hurricane, rolled up a thousand piles of snow, filled the sky with snow and the earth shook. The snow and stones condensed into a huge figure, staggered to stand up. The stone man raised his arms and carried the snow and rocks toward Yuan Xiang.
