Demon King's Repayment - chapter 13
Yun Niang smiled and responded to them one by one. She was like an ordinary woman carrying a bamboo, holding Yuan Xiang and bending over to pick and choose vegetables at the market.
“Shiniang, what are you doing?” Yuan Xiang asked.
“Let’s buy some fruits and vegetables for today’s dinner.”
“Shifu isn’t home and you are not in good health. Just leave these trivial matters to me. How could I let you do it yourself?”
When Yu Yao was there, the chores at home were always taken care of by him. Yuan Xiang had lived carefree like a real child for these years. She also enjoyed being treated as a child and pampered.
But now that her Shifu was out, she was still a principled person and should do these things by herself. She couldn’t make Shiniang, who had just recovered from the illness, tired. After all, she wasn’t actually a child.
Although she couldn’t cook before, it wasn’t too late for her to learn now.
“Nonsense, you are just a child and if Shifu isn’t here, naturally I will cook for you.” Yun Niang stretched out her white fingers and tapped on Yuan Xiang’s nose “Didn’t your Shifu pamper you? I will do it the same way. Tell me, what do you want to eat tonight? Do you want to eat sweet ginger chicken?”
Yuan Xiang swallowed. She was especially greedy for meat, so she instantly gave up her principle, “Yes… yes, who can refuse sweet ginger chicken?”
The two of them walked to the house arm in arm. The sky was full of dense scaly clouds and the glow was shining, like an immortal was crossing. Yuan Xiang had only seen such a beautiful multicolored sunset once on the day her Shifu came to her village to pick her up.
There was a knock on the door outside the courtyard.
“Coming,” Yuan Xiang trotted all the way under the sycamore trees in the courtyard, opened the door and stuck out her head.
A mighty team of people and horses stood outside the door and there were many followers on the colored glazed carriage. The owner of the carriage wore a round neck brocade gown and a light gauze hat. He was obviously the child of a wealthy family. But he put down his pride, let his servant wait behind him and knocked on the door himself.
“Is Sir at home?” The guest bowed his head and spoke respectfully. He looked very young and good, but there was a large bruise on his left eye, as if he was punched hard by someone and it looked a little funny.
Another man came all the way to ask for Shifu’s help.
Yuan Xiang: “My Shifu has been away from home and has not returned for many years.”
“Sir is not at home?” The guest rubbed his hands back and forth and asked, “When will he return?”
Yuan Xiang shook her head.
Since Shifu disappeared that year, seven years had passed. Yuan Xiang grew up from a little doll to a 17-year-old girl. But she never saw her Shifu again. Although a long time had passed, there were still people who had no idea about his situation and they came over from far away to seek help from time to time. Unfortunately, they were also destined to return disappointed.
Yuan Xiang was seeing off the guests behind closed doors and from a distance saw Shiniang and Aunt Chen returning from the market side by side. She hastily opened the door to welcome her into the room.
“I saw little chickens at the market today. They were very cute, so I bought two more.” Yun Niang lifted a corner of the floral cloth covering the basket, revealing two slightly turbulent yellow fur balls, “Keep them in the yard, okay?”
When Shifu just left, the sprites living in the courtyard disappeared at the same time and she was unaccustomed to the sudden silence. Perhaps Shiniang also felt the silence, so she raised a lot of cats and dogs, chickens and ducks in the yard and finally made the empty yard chirping up again.
Aunt Chen saw Yuan Xiang coming out to open the door and rushed forward to hold her hand affectionately and looked at her from up to down. This little apprentice looked very ordinary when she was a child. After that, she was infected with the immortal spirit in her Shifu’s house and was getting more beautiful year after year. She liked her very much. No wonder her kid was thinking about her all day.
So she patted Yuan Xiang’s hand and said enthusiastically, “Oh, good Xiang’er, aunt was telling your Shiniang just now that you are such a good girl. Find a good family nearby so you can take care of your Shiniang too in the future.”
Yuan Xiang smiled and walked in with her hand in Shiniang’s hand.
The guest who was about to leave saw Lady Yun, looked at her for a moment and strode back a few steps, “Are you Lady Yun? This lowly person is Zhou Sheng, does the lady remember me? Fifteen years ago , Shifu and the lady passed by Dongting Lake and once saved me.”
Yun Niang looked at him and thought about it for a long time before she remembered. She covered her sleeves with surprise and said, “It turned out to be you. Back then, you were just a child less than ten years old. You’ve grown up now.”
