Demon King's Repayment - chapter 10
Yuan Xiang received another jujube from Tie Niu who’d always accurately thrown the fruit into her arms every other time. She didn’t even have to rush forward with her friends and fight against them for it. The fruits in her arms were already too many.
Yuan Xiang looked at the top of the tree and calmly handed a hanging jujube to the hand of the demon beside her. The big demon stretched out his hand in a daze while he catched them.
After a long while, Yuan Xiang discovered that although this demon was huge, he only just liked playing in the crowd. As Shifu said, he hadn’t done anything extraordinary. Yuan Xiang’s fear of him gradually lessened. At that moment, she even felt that this demon had been watching for so long because he maybe just wanted a fruit.
Sure enough, the big demon held the small fruit, looked left and right, squatted to the side, then tilted his head to study what was in his hand.
Tie Niu jumped down from the tree and patted his pants: “Okay, that’s it. You can’t pick more because it’s too high.”
“Can’t you pick it up?”
“It’s a pity, there were still so many. Next time let’s bring a bamboo pole.”
As the little friends walked back regretfully, they suddenly heard a loud noise from the top of the tree. Jujubes, leaves and caterpillars fell all over their heads, smashing them on their faces.
“Oh, where did the wind come from?”
“There’s lots of fruit, pick it up quickly.”
The children jogged and avoided each other as they picked up fruits all over.
In a world they couldn’t see, the black figure standing by the tree was puffing out his chest and let out a long breath. That breath even blew a hurricane and shook down the fruits on the tree.
The children, who just had a good harvest, washed the jujube by the stream and put them in the skirts of their clothes then ate them sweetly. After eating, they still have a task to do. They headed into the mountains to pick up some firewood to take home.
Only Yuan Xiang out of these children didn’t have to do this job.
Normally, she neither picked firewood or hogweed nor did she even need to carry water to cook. Every day she played and studied. Her clothes were always clean, her hands were white and tender, and she often had fragrant chicken legs whenever she came home. The envy of all friends.
“Xiang’er, we will be back in a while. Wait for us.”
Her playmates waved goodbye to her. Yuan Xiang was not bored sitting alone by the stream. This world without any electronic products was not as boring as she imagined and everyday was novel and interesting.
For example, at that moment, by the bank of a stream not far from her, a little man, with human limbs but with a frog head in cyan clothes, was climbing up a slippery big rock. It looked like he wanted to pick the few red raspberries hanging on the shore. The stones were covered with moss, so every time he climbed a few steps, he slipped down and his small body rolled down all the way.
Yuan Xiang hid to peek. She saw the frogman about to reach the fruit, so she quietly stretched out a branch and swung it under his feet, causing him to plop and roll down into the grass again.
She squeezed a smile and watched the little frogman climb up in a daze. His eyesight seemed to be not so good as it seemed like he hadn’t noticed Yuan Xiang sitting near him. After he got up from the grass, he touched his head dumbly. He couldn’t understand why he fell, so he continued to climb. Yuan Xiang, the eldest lady who was not very kind, was fascinated with a smile in her heart.
After bullying the little fairy several times, Yuan Xiang heard a faint crying from the depths of the jungle. She listened to it for a while, stood up and lifted the frogman by his collar then put him on the top of the rock, stroked a few raspberries, and placed them on the leaves in front of the silly frogman.
“I will stop teasing you, eat it.”
Yuan Xiang followed the cries and looked for the source. Separating the branches and leaves of the shrubs, she saw a trap set by a hunter. Sharp iron clamps trapped a lynx cub. The blood on the legs of the merely one month old kitten was dripping and he was unable to break free. It lay on the grass as it shed tears.
Seeing Yuan Xiang, it exploded and uttered, “Ah, it’s a terrible human being. Father, help me. Father, help me.”
Yuan Xiang was fascinated by his milky voice. She had liked such fluffy creatures since her last life. She stretched out her hand and slammed open the iron clamp as the lynx yelled and carefully lifted the injured kitten from the trap.
“Ah! It’s a human being, it’s terrible. Don’t come over. Don’t catch me!” The little cat held by Yuan Xiang’s hand stretched out his tender little hairy paws to scratch around in the air as an attempt to resist.
“Don’t make trouble,” Yuan Xiang squeezed the cat’s neck skillfully to prevent this little thing from succeeding, “Let me look at the wound on your leg.”
There was blood on the thin hairy legs. A light touch caused the kitten to scream in pain.
There was a low and angry roar from the jungle. For a moment, the fishy wind rushed towards her face. Amidst the flying sand and rocks, a huge cat demon emerged out of the forest, roaring towards Yuan Xiang.
His red mouth splashed with saliva all the way. Yuan Xiang could clearly see the row of sharp teeth and the huge tongue covered with barbed thorns.
She had no doubt he could bite off her head and splatter her blood on the spot, even the gods would be unable to save her life.
This was the first time Yuan Xiang had truly experienced the horror of a demon. It was not playing nor was it practicing. She could really accidentally lose her life.
