Chapter 44- Du Lin’s Part (4)

“We heard you found your daughter, how wonderful.” 

Many guests surrounded Chen Feng with congratulating words, though their incesere tones showcased their true thoughts. But Chen Feng happily received their compliments. 

His usual smile wasn’t as stifling and the guests couldn’t help but feel like they were punching cotton. 

Some younger women sent him flirtatious glances. Whether or not he had an illegitimate daughter, General Chen was handsome, young, and successful. 

“Have you found the child’s mother?” A woman asked, testing waters.

“I don’t intend to.” He said, but before they could sigh in relief, he added, “I am not looking to find her a mother either.”

The girls couldn’t help but feel dejected, but were not willing to give up.

“But Mr. Cheng, such a beautiful young lady would benefit from a motherly presence.” 

Their protests did not persuade Chen Feng, he quickly said a few polite words and left.

He looked around and saw a servant whispering something to Du Hao, causing Du Hao’s expression to change for a moment.

He immediately bid goodbye to his peers and tried to get out of the party, but was suddenly blocked by Chen Feng.

Knowing what he was scheming, Du Hao felt nervous and irritated. He still gave a polite smile while cursing Chen Feng in his mind.

“Mr. Chen, have you been enjoying your time? Unfortunately i have some business to attend to if you excuse me-“

“Not so fast Mr. Du, after all you called me earlier to talk to you. I followed you but you left so quickly, a shame really, we were having such a wonderful conversation after all,” Chen Feng squinted his eyes and smiled, all the nearby women swooned, causing many people to stare at them.

Du Hao could not insist on leaving the party without causing people to gossip. 

Under Chen Feng’s scheming eyes, he laughed nervously and had no choice but to stay.

On the children’s side, many children were surrounding Shan Yijun, who was confronted with a similar predicament as Chen Feng’s.

Shan Yijun was good-looking, smart, and mature for his age. Many of his peers looked up to him. 

However, Shan Yijun had a bad temper. After being accosted nonstop by his peers he got angry and glared at all of them. Almost all of them were in the same school, so they ignored his glare and continued to surround him.

As he was getting impatient, he remembered that Chen Daiyu had been in the bathroom for a long time now. He immediately left without saying anything, making many of the children grumble.

“Ah, why did he leave?”

“Didn’t his cousin also come with him? I think she left for quite a while.”

“So he’s looking for her?”

“Probably. He hasn’t come to a party in a while.”

“I heard he came because of his cousin, now that she was bullied…”

No one continued that phrase, and everyone looked at Liu Mei and went back to what they were doing.

“Are they blaming me for Shan Yijun leaving?!?” Liu Mei trembled in anger and clenched her fist. Many of her lackeys tried to appease her, but she still pushed them away and walked out.

Meanwhile-

Below the balcony, there hid 2 children. They squeezed themselves in a corner making sure that they wouldn’t get caught.

Huo Shanxi looked at the small figure in front of him, the place was dark but her eyes seemed to be glowing, attentively guarding against any threat.

The noises above them are getting weaker and weaker, only when there was silence, did Chen Daiyu squeeze herself and Huo Shanxi out.

When Chen Daiyu reached out to hold Huo Shanxi’s hand. Surprised, she pulled his collar and connected their foreheads together and found that Huo Shanxi’s temperature is really high.

This action caused Huo Shanxi to pause, and blushed even redder.

“If you haven’t been feeling good, you shouldn’t have come with me!” Chen Daiyu scolded, but she then lowered her head. “Sorry, i shouldn’t have bought you with me”

Seeing her down and guilty, Huo Shanxi felt anxious. ” No- no, i- I had fun, it was my choice to come with you”

” But you didn’t know that the things i would do would be dangerous…!” Chen Daiyu refuted.

“…I knew” Huo Shanxi patted her head, his eyes grew heavy and he staggered.

“Shanxi!”
