Chapter 42 – Du Lin’s Party (2)

The party room for the children was just as big as the main room and much more extravagant.Â

The room screamed gold and bright. There was a table full of food, though over half were ridiculously expensive sweets and there were nannies every 10 feet, ready to attend any and every need of the children.

Chen Daiyu honestly found it all ridiculous, but didn’t show it on her face.
Â
Although the children were not as judgemental as their parents their rich upbringing could not be hidden from their mannerisms.Â
Â
Most were standing in groups actively talking to each other. They were much closer to Du Lin’s age.
Â
Without giving Chen Daiyu and Shan Yijun a chance to protest, Du Lin grabbed her by the wrist and took her to the group closest to them.Â

“Happy birthday Young Master Du”

Everyone was eager to greet him.
Â
“No need for such formalities, have you met Chen Daiyu? She is living in the Shan mansion with Shan Yijun.”
Â
“Oh? I had no idea.”
Â
“Yeah, I had no idea she existed.”
Â
Du Lin smiled at this, “well I’ve heard she’s basically their treasure.”
“But no one knows where she came from.”

They went around in circles, most conversations going the same way. Shan Yijun was of no help, he was never one to attend and socialize in parties. Though Chen Daiyu could tell that most children held back whenever Shan Yijun looked too pissed.

“My mom says she’s a no mannered brat that talks back.” One of the girls spoke out while Du Lin was going around the room, making sure everyone knew Chen Daiyu.Â

Even after Shan Yijun’s sharp look she didn’t back down.
Â
“They hired my mommy to teach her manners and every time she comes back complaining about how hard she is to teach. I cannot imagine she is bright.”
“Liu Mei, what are you talking about? Just because Chen Daiyu spent her first years in a less favorable environment, doesn’t mean she’s inferior to us.”

Liu Mei looked disgusted, “You see,” she turned to look at her friends, “she’s from the slums, imagine how dirty she is.”

Many backed away from her, though one of the girls by Liu Mei didn’t follow.Â

Shan Yijun stepped closer to Chen daiyu in a protective stance.
Â
Che Diayu had had enough by that point. She knew she couldn’t change their impressions of her right away, but Du Lin didn’t even let her get a word in while they talked.Â
Â
She wasn’t willing to spend a second more in the room. She knew anything she said would not help, she would have to change their opinion slowly.Â
Â
Seeing one of the girls that was with Liu Mei walk towards her from behind with a drink in hand, she turned around quickly and bumped into her. Purposefully making it look like the girl poured the drink on her with malice.Â

“Hey! what are you doing?!?” Shan Yijun stepped in and took out a handkerchief and carefully wiped the juice stains from Chen Daiyu’s dress.

“Oh no, I’m sorry. Are you ok? I didn’t see you turn around.” The girl couldn’t even act properly and showed no pity.
Â
“No worries, brother Yijun, I just have to go to the bathroom to clean it up quickly.” Chen Daiyu turned to Shan Yijun and borrowed his handkerchief, “I’ll be right back.”

Shan Yijun frowned, “be careful.”
Â
Chen Daiyu nodded and went to ask a maid for directions. The maid kindly offered to accompany her but Chen Diayu refused, exhausted from Du Lin’s childish antics.Â

She cleaned her dress quickly and went back out.Â
Â
Unwilling to go back to the party she decided to explore the mansion, after all, she could just say she had gotten lost on her way back.Â
Â
She immediately headed in the opposite direction of the party, hoping to get into some office.Â
Â
She had gone all the way to the end of the hallway when she saw some men that looked completely different from any of the staff and guests she had seen so far.Â
Â
They looked around cautiously and whispered to each other.Â
Â
Chen Daiyu tried reading their lips but they were too far away. She slowly followed them and saw them go into an isolated room.Â
Â
She was about to go in after them but someone approached her from behind.
Â
“Chen Daiyu?”
Â
She looked back to see Huo Shanxi and immediately relaxed.
Â
“Hello, we meet again. I got lost on my way back to the party. What are you doing here?”
Â
“Du Lin told me to wait for him over here…?”
Â
“How long ago?”
Â
Huo Shanxi looked down at his shoes guiltily, “about three hours?”
Â
Chen Daiyu’s desire to punch the little brat increased at that moment but also can’t help but be angry at the pushover boy in front of her, But she looked up at Huo Shanxi.

“Have you been here before?”
Â
“Many times.”
Â
“What’s over there?” Chen Daiyu pointed at the room that the men had gone onto before.Â
Â
“We’re not allowed in there, Du Lin’s dad says that it’s where he conducts business.”
Â
“Where’s Du Lin’s dad’s study.”
Â
“It’s on the second floor all the way to the right, but no one is allowed in there.”
Â
Chen Daiyu nodded, “do you wanna explore the mansion?”Â
Â
Thinking about being able to do fun things with her again, Huo Shanxi agreed immediately. “Sure!”
