Chapter 39 – Teachers

Liu Teng continued to scold her nonstop, not truly teaching her anything. Any normal child would have been crying or upset after being criticized for so long without reason. 

Finally, an hour and a half passed and Liu Teng’s teaching time was up. However, she continued to scold Chen Daiyu.

“Mrs. Liu, your time is over” a hesitant voice called from the door, which shocked Liu Teng so much she almost had a heart attack.

She immediately fixed her hair and expression, she then smiled fawningly at the person by the door.

“Ah, is mister Chen there?” Liu Teng asked the lady by the door innocently.

Chen Daiyu also looked over and saw an unfamiliar woman. Around her late teens, with short hair and droopy eyes.

“Ah, no,” the girl quickly denied and bowed respectfully. “I’m Miss Chen Daiyu’s teacher for language. Mr. Chen is currently busy so a maid sent me here”

Only then did Liu Teng scrutinize the girl. Although her clothes were out of season and not from any well known brand, the girl still looked kind of fashionable. 

Liu Teng immediately deemed the girl poor and unworthy of her attention.

She once again faced Chen Daiyu, who changed her face faster than they could blink, and grabbed her.

“Remember brat, complain to anyone about this and your punishment won’t be light.” 

“Hey, aren’t you going a little bit too far? Even if she’s a bit naughty-” the girl couldn’t bear to watch anymore and stepped in to help Chen Daiyu.

” Shut your mouth!” Liu Teng shouted and flung Chen Daiyu’s face away. “Who do you think you are to tell me how to teach my students?!”

The girl frowned and gritted her teeth. She decided that she would tell her employer about this later.

“‘I’ll mention this to Mr. Chen,”‘ said Liu Teng in a mocking tone. “Don’t even try,” she chuckled. “Who do you think he will believe? A poor girl like you? Or a high society lady like me who has taught many children?”

The girl grit her teeth, she couldn’t help but feel wronged, yet agree at the same time. Who would believe her anyway? The only reason she has applied for this position was because they had offered her a sponsored scholarship. 

“Heh,” the girl’s wronged face had made Liu Teng’s day. She pushed the girl out of the way with a finger and walked out.

The girl frowned and looked at Chen Daiyu.

“Don’t your servants hear her screaming?” The girl said jokingly.

At first glance, Chen Daiyu already liked her so she didn’t mind joking for a bit and smiled. “This place has good sound proofing.”

“Is that so?” The girl laughed, but inside, she was relieved that the little girl didn’t quiet down after how badly Liu Teng had berated her. She didn’t look even a bit down. 

“I’m Neng Chinghong, I’ll be teaching you the basic characters. Let me know if you can’t keep up.”

The tutoring from Neng Chinghong was a breeze. She even used up all the lessons she had prepared for the week within a day and was freaking out, the child she was teaching could absorb knowledge faster than a sponge could absorb water.

She just knew that Liu Teng was being played by this child. Her intelligent and quick wits eyes said it all. 

She left without a worry for Chen Daiyu, and couldn’t wait to know what would happen to Liu Teng in the future. 

After dinner, Chen Feng was invited by Old Man Shan to play chinese chess, while Chen Daiyu and Shan Yijun went along to the study to watch.

The servants served tea and left. Shan Yijun didn’t know anything about chinese chess, and eventually fell asleep in his chair due to boredom

Chen Daiyu on the other hand, sat on Chen Feng’s crossed legs and watched the ‘fierce’ fight intently.

Old Man Shan was playing as white while Chen Feng as black.

Old Man Shan was amused by her granddaughter’s serious face throughout the game. At first glance, black seemed to be at a disadvantage, making Old Man Shan sure that he was going to win.

“Hmm, your skills seemed to have gone rusty,” Old Man Shan rubbed his chin and said smugly. In his mind, he was showing off that he was gonna win and brag to his granddaughter.

“Not quite,” Chen Feng’s smile became a little crooked, making him look even more shady.

He put his piece down, which turned the tables. Surprising Old Man Shan into almost standing.

He had lost in a single move?!?
