Chapter 34 – Reading
Chen Daiyu and Shan Yijun had to come back in during lunch time, where Old Man Shan was waiting for them. He told them to go wash their hands. On their way to the dining room, Chen Daiyu was holding the letter, which surprised Old Man Shan.
“Yu Yu, you read that?” Old man Shan asked.
Chen Daiyu looked up and nodded with a blank look on her face, then she remembered… she was supposed to be uneducated… she immediately made up a lie, “when i was living in the streets, a kind big brother would always come to give me food and a bit of chinese lessons,” she smiled innocently.
She didn’t even try anything shady like hypnotization, she was afraid of being found out and being kicked out. She only tried to look as innocent as possible, which worked.
Old Man Shan believed her, and even gave her a look of sympathy thinking, if only they had found her sooner, she wouldn’t have to rely on others to live.
“If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can always come ask grandpa, okay?”
“Okay!” Chen Daiyu nodded obediently.
“Wow, Yu Yu can read?” Shan Yijun curiously moved closer to her to take a look at the letter, there were even a few characters that he did not understand and Chen Daiyu had to explain to him.
Old Man Shan realized his granddaughter was even more of a genius than his grandson. When eating, Old Man Shan would occasionally put dishes in Chen Daiyu’s bowl and only seldomly in Shan Yijun’s bowl.
Shan Yijun didn’t feel envious at all, he felt that his cousin was not only cool, but also smart. In the future, he would learn from her. He didn’t even remember that he was the older one…
The letter was an invitation from the male lead’s family, aka the Du family. Formally inviting the Shan and Chen family, they even went as far as to list ‘Chen Feng’s daughter’. Although she was pleased by the title, she was still cautious with what the true purpose was.
Thinking about her encounter with the Du brat the day before, he must have obviously gone to tell his father about her. They already knew she existed.
The Du family was obviously targeting the Shan and Chen family. If a gossip came out that a general actually had an illegitimate child, his reputation within the army would be ruined.
Chen Feng giving the letter to her meant that he respected her decision despite being a child. Her heart suddenly felt warm and the food she ate tasted extra sweet as well.
Two days later, a familiar vehicle parked outside the mansion giving Chen Daiyu a big surprise. She thought that it was Chen feng coming home early so she ran to the front door and eagerly waited to see him.
Unfortunately, the one who came down wasn’t Chen Feng, but Lu Ji. Chen Daiyu couldn’t help but express her disappointment.
“Uncle Lu,” Chen Daiyu nodded at him expressionlessly.
Lu Ji suddenly felt as if he’d been stabbed in the heart and cursed at Chen Feng, that damn lucky guy. At least he had a daughter at home eagerly waiting for him to come home, while he was still single!!!
It’s not that he is ugly, but since he’s always been with the outstanding Chen Feng, all his achievements and looks faded in comparison to his friend’s.
“I’m hurt little Yu, are you disappointed that it was only me who came?” Lu Ji held his chest and pretended to be hurt.
Although she knew that he was pretending, she didn’t have a choice but to console him. Not long after, he went back to being his usual self and took something out from the back of his vehicle.
“Here, a gift for you. Yu Yu will be going to school soon so you better study~” Lu Ji said as he went into the villa.
School?
Chen Daiyu curiously looked inside the paper bag that was the size of her body. When she peeked, it was all study materials and thin books for learning easy characters.
When she went to her room, she saw Lu Ji seemed to go into Old Man Shan’s office. Since it was their business, Chen Daiyu didn’t bother to eavesdrop on them.
Lu Ji entered Old Man Shan’s Office. He then turned serious and respectfully called. “Uncle”
Old Man Shan nodded at him and signaled him to sit, Lu Ji nodded and sat himself. He then began his report.
“Uncle, I’m sure you have received it as well. The letter of invitation from the Du family…”
From what Lu Ji had been investigating, the Du family’s party was going to be grand, grander than Du Lin’s previous birthday celebrations.
Thanks to Shan He’s recent investigations on them, he found out that there should be something else going on behind the scenes.
