To Chen Daiyu’s luck, the girls eventually got bored of dressing her up so they left the store after half an hour. The boys were already waiting for them after buying all they wanted. 

They headed off to an arcade and left their bodyguards outside. Shan Yijun was once again forced to separate from Chen Daiyu since some of his friends wanted to see him beat his previous score. 

Chen Daiyu on the other hand, was distracted by a goose plushie she saw in one of the claw machines and was determined to get it. Xiao Li had accompanied her at first, cheering her on, but after a few minutes had decided to go for a quick snack grab. 

Chen Daiyu was left all by herself, concentrating on getting the plushie. 

She had already been trying for a few minutes without any luck, the controller’s for the machine were too high up for her to use properly. It had not been too long since Xiao Li left when she was suddenly aware that someone had been staring at her for a while. She kept her attention on the machine and the person kept staring at her. 

Finally after a few minutes, the person approached her. “Do you need help?” It was another child, a boy around Shan Yijun’s age and at least more than a head taller than her.

“No.”

Chen Daiyu did not even look at him, she was about to press the button for the claw to go down again.

“You have been trying for quite a while, you will run out of credits soon. I, on the other hand, can get you the plushie you want, without even lifting a finger. Hou Shanxi, go get me another arcade card.”

“Buzz off, I have unlimited credits.” Chen Daiyu prevented herself from cursing in front of these kids.

The boy was amused by the child that paid him no mind and ignored the figure that had left at his command.  

“Come on,” the boy lightly pushed Chen Daiyu, causing her to move the claw too much and the timer had run out, she once again had missed the goose. She was sure she had it that time, if not for the interruption.

She finally looked at the child that kept pestering her, only one look at him and she felt annoyed. “What. Do. You. Want,” she had no time for this nonsense, she wanted to win the goose and go for other games. 

The boy on the other hand was enchanted by looking at the little girl, he thought she was pretty before, but looking at her face completely showed him how adorable she was.

“I only want to help you.” 

Chen Daiyu was so flabbergasted she needed to look at the child again, she was annoyed by the look of his face. She could also tell that the men standing not too far away from them were closely guarding the child. 

She made sure she enunciated her next words so that he would understand her, “I do not want nor need your help, I can get it myself.”

With that she turned back to the claw machine, she really wanted that goose plushie. 

The boy was starting to get annoyed, no one had ignored him like this before.

“My kind-”

“Leave Chen Daiyu alone,” Xiao Li had finally come back from getting snacks, only to find her little Yu Yu being harassed by the bastard Du Lin.

The bastard did not move. 

She decided to scream. 

“GET AWAY FROM LITTLE YU YU.” 

On the other side of the arcade Shan Yijun’s ears picked up Xiao Li’s scream and he immediately dropped what he was doing and went towards the sound, so did all his friends.

Once he saw what was happening he calmed down.

“Was a fly bothering you, Yu Yu?” 

“Yeah,” Chen Daiyu was a bit surprised by their different reactions.

Shan Yijun turned to Xiao Li, “what happened?”

“I came from getting snacks to see him bothering our precious little Yu Yu.”

“No need to bother with such insignificant people,” Shan Yijun smiled and turned towards his sister, “remember to ignore those things that bother you.” 

“I will.” Chen Daiyu nodded obidiently and ‘meekly’ hid behind Shan Yijun. 

The boy, Du Lin, was infuriated that he was being ignored.

“So do-“

Xiao Li interrupted once more before he could even get started.

“Yijun, didn’t you say we would have a racing rematch?”

“I bet I can beat you in all the courses.”

“In your dreams maybe.”

They were about to leave when the boy interrupted them again 

“Hey! Don’t ignore me!”

Shan Yijun looked back mockingly, “oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t even see you there. Who are you?”

Shan Yijun’s friends laughed and one reminded him, “he’s Du Lin, he goes to our school.”

“How could I have forgotten,” Shan Yijun pretended to be enlightened. “Either way, let’s go Xiao Li.”

Shan Yijun left with his friends, while Chen Daiyu was busy trying to get her goose plushie again. 

Du Lin was stood frozen, he couldn’t believe he was ignored by such lowly and stupid people. He left the arcade in a hurry and headed to his house.

Chen Daiyu barely said goodbye to them as she finally had the claw in the position she believed would get her the goose plushie.

She watched the claw go down on top of the goose, slowly close around it, lift it off a bit, and then drop it.

It was hopeless, she had tried as much as she could, but the claw machine beat her.

“Umm, where did Du Lin go?”

Chen Daiyu looked back to see another child behind her.

“Who are you?” 

“Oh, h-hello! I’m Huo Shanxi, Du Lin asked me to get him an arcade card.” He stuttered at first nervously, since this is the first time someone talked to him in their own initiative. All his other playmates despised him, he had never understood why. 

She could vaguely remember the other kid barking out something like that. 

“I don’t know really, he left a while ago. It looked like he was heading towards the exit.”

Huo Shanxi did not seem surprised that he was left behind, he was about to leave and look for him again when Chen Daiyu spoke up.

“Why do you do anything that kid says anyway?”

“Oh, my dad told me to make sure that I treated Du Lin very kindly.” Hou Shanxi nodded enthusiastically, convinced that he was doing what he was asked. 

“That’s not kindness, you’re just getting walked all over.”

Huo Shanxi seemed surprised by her comment, everyone around him always seemed to think it was right he did anything Du Lin asked for, even if he didn’t. 

Each was in their own head as Du Lin’s name finally hit Chen Daiyu.

But before she could think more about it Huo Shanxi spoke to her again.

“You know, the goose is in a much better position than it was before. If you place the claw a bit more to the left, you should be able to get it.”

“Huh?” Chen Daiyu tried what he said immediately, she watched attentively at the claw slowly picked up the plushie and balanced it slowly towards her, each passing second made her more and more nervous. The claw finally dropped the plushie. 

She had gotten it! She had the goose plushie! 

She was so happy she took it from the platform and hugged it, it was almost as big as her.

She turned towards Hou Shanxi with a full smile on her face, “thank you so much! I’m Chen Daiyu.”

“N-nice to meet you.”

The boy was quite shy and blushed at her kindness.

“Want to play some games with me?” Chen Daiyu asked him, “you seem to be quite good at these.”

“I, I don’t have an arcade card.” 

“Then what’s that in your hand?” 

“But that’s Du Lin’s” 

“He left you, you can use his card.”

Huo Shanxi found no rebuttal to what she had said. Du Lin had left him, didn’t even say anything to him before charging off to who knows where.

“Sure.”

Chen Daiyu dragged Hou Shanxi around the arcade playing games and talking.

Du Lin had arrived at his house and went up the stairs ro his dad’s study, ignoring everyone around him. 

He stopped in front of the door and knocked, after he was allowed in, he immediately started complaining.

“Dad, you won’t believe what the brat Shan Yijun did. He completely disregarded me in front of his friends. They even laughed at me! In front of a cute girl at that. They came to protect her like I was some sort of plague and then told me I was a fly! She was so pretty, dad I want her. Her name is Chen Daiyu and they were very protective of her, you’ve got to get her for me. The girl is pretty pretty pretty” His explanation was messy and all over the place, but the key points were understandable. .

The man in the chair barely reacted until he heard her name. He looked up to look at his child and smiled. 

“Tell me more.”
