Chapter 27 – Cunning Woman
Left alone in her room, Xiao Daiyu jumped on her bed and muffled her screams by burying her head on the pillow, unable to contain her excitement. She didn’t know what she did but her ‘grandfather’ accepted her and seemed to favour her.
At first, she kept telling herself to not expect anything, but everything was fine. All of her worries were for naught.
After she calmed down, she faced the ceiling. “What a relief,” she mumbled before falling asleep.

“I already know what happened, but I want to hear everything from you,” Old Man Shan said in a serious face, all the warmth and playfulness from before was nowhere to be found.
Despite this, Chen Feng squinted his eyes with a smile.
Old Man Shan knew this habit of his, this son of his had a habit of hiding all of his emotions and thoughts behind a frosty smile.
Chen Feng began the report.
7 or so years ago, Old Man Shan threw a party to celebrate Mrs. Shan’s pregnancy, Shan He’s wife was pregnant with Shan Yijun. The old man was so joyful at the time he forgot to guard himself against any threats to his family.
A trap was set for Shan He, to feed him aphrodisiac and be caught having an affair at the party. After all, Mrs. Shan was a cold and proud lady, she wouldn’t be able to bear her husband having an affair.
The point of it all was to lessen the Shan family’s connection, Mrs. Shan’s maiden family, the Mu family, had many political connections.
The plan almost succeeded, if not for the person who tried to drug Shan He mistaking Chen Feng for his brother.
The plan continued and Chen Feng ended up in bed with that woman.
Though the ‘exposing’ part never happened after those involved noticed Shan He’s presence throughout the party.
Thus, the woman left unnoticed.
The aggravator’s plan failed and they abandoned the woman. The woman was left with no choice but to leave as the people she was facing were too powerful.
After a few months, she found out she was pregnant. She was smart enough to give birth first before running to Chen Feng or else Chen Feng would’ve gotten rid of the nuisance.
After she gave birth, she confidently asked for money, after getting it she left. She barely liked the child, but she had a vague sense of guilt towards her. But that faded with time, she let Chen Daiyu stay with her for at least 2 years before abandoning her on the streets.
Chen Feng also never stopped sending her money until he met Chen Daiyu. If not meeting her, he would’ve been completely fooled by that woman.
Hearing his story, Old man Shan was enraged. He slammed his hand on the table, the table almost gave in as it creaked.
“That damned woman! Hurry up and find her for me!” Old man Shan shouted.
“Calm down, father, anger is not good for your health” Chen Feng said smiling, despite that, the armrest of the chair he was sitting on was nearly in pieces.
He relaxed his grip and let old man Shan sit back on his chair, handing him a pile of papers.
“Reports from the past week, apparently, that woman had been spotted visiting different countries for the past years. Every time the money was sent, she would withdraw it all and disappear to another country,” Chen Feng explained.
“Cunning woman,” Old man Shan cursed.
Chen Feng only silently smiled in return. He had long located that woman.
But he had a plan in mind, she was a chronic gambler. He wondered how desperate she would become after loosing more and more money in every casino she went.
