Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 35
“The last time I heard those words was when before I was treated so badly by someone who, in the end, imprisoned me,” Axel grumbled in a whisper, but this never went hidden from his group’s ears. Oh, he forgot that these people were superhumans.
“Huh?” Kaia was shocked when she heard this and Kael gave him a look of surprise. Axel pressed his lips into a thin line then released a frustrated sigh, “I’ll try to tell you later. We have to deal with this man called Julian first.”
“There’s nothing to deal here. I am just here to help you find your companions. I know where they kept their human supplies. I don’t want to let you wander around the town with a high chance of being dead,” Julian spoke calmly.
“And why do you want to help us? You grew up here, where they lived through eating human flesh.”
“Truthfully, the city I was in was attacked. I escaped through the abandoned aqueduct and somehow ended up here. I thought I was saved because Ma decided to keep me, but this town was even worse than I thought. Believe me, eating humans is out of my bucket list and I never ate one after 7 years of being here.” Julian sighed and shook his head.
“Oh! How old are you?” Kaia asked with a glint in her eyes that made Julian took a step back, “I’m only 16… why?”
“Nothing much…” Kaia turned to look at Axel, “And hey, team leader, spare the child and let him be in my team. We need to hasten our search then get out of here.”
Axel was indignant but he agreed in the end. He needed someone who knew the town more than them, it always decreased the chances of risk.
They were preparing to head out when they saw a bunch of people going out of the wall with weapons and torches. This scene made them felt something cold crawled in their skin. Their eyes went wide when Axel spotted a few townspeople running in their direction.
“Sht! We have to go! NOW!” Julian motioned them to get into the van. They frantically entered the van, Kaia being close to the driver’s seat, took it and drove off into the town; she never cared if she ever crashed into a few people or not, the only thing in her head was to escape.
“No! Don’t turn there, that’s a dead end! Turn right then there’s a curve, but you have to accelerate to 100 or more and go straight ahead. There’s an abandoned portal that the previous Lord installed which I accidentally found when I was speeding down!” Julian explained as Kaia drove with her stern expression, her grip on the wheel was tight as she pushed the gas pedal until it cannot be pushed anymore.
The few of the people there screamed as they saw a wall before the curve; however, Kael scoffed when she heard how these high rankers were supposed to be brave but ended up embarrassing themselves. She decided to take a video of it and she did while having an evil grin.
When they neared the wall, which the car was in the speed of 200 kilometer per hour, they closed their eyes to brace for the impact. Then they felt as if they were floating in goo that stopped their momentum. After another surface breakout, they crashed on a hill.
When they opened their eyes, they heard water flowing and a working aqueduct on sight. Axel immediately checked his Holowrist to see where on earth did they landed onto, but to no avail, they were in the middle of nowhere; no signal, yeah.
The others noticed too and it made them panic. The van was busted and they had no more means of transportation. It was then that they remembered Kael, who was dusting her clothes, that could fly.
Kael felt their gazes burned through her and it felt uncomfortable, “What are you all idiots looking at?”
“Can you show us your dragon form?”
“You can fly, right?”
“No. Yes,” Kael answered shortly as she continued to pat her clothes until the dirt were slightly gone. She smiled at her work then she felt herself being lifted from the ground, “What the fck?!”
Trystan held her waist to throw her up, but his face changed to horror when Kael raised her leg and swung it back at him. He immediately let go of the female that spun in the air to land.
“Idiots. I’m not the Administrator’s student but Aires’. Stupids!” She exclaimed.
“Huh?” They all asked in chorus. They all knew that Aires traveled a lot before he was known as the top student, but he never mentioned anything about a disciple.
Kael sighed with her intentional slip-up, “Yeah, Aires is my master. We met four years ago in Deltasone.”
“…” The group was suddenly silent as they pondered about the Administrator’s precious student was, in fact, Aires’, the strongest in the High Order Academy, disciple from four years ago. Now, they saw how the spar will really end even if Kael tried.
“Does that mean you were training under Aires in four years?” Axel asked with enthusiasm, completely forgotten about their situation.
“No, it’s three years. Someone took interest in me and took me under her stupid and fragile wings,” Kael suddenly felt an energy radiating in the north of where they were, “You all stay here. I’ll find a spot to put a signal reactor. Do you guys have any?”
Axel handed over a small antennae to Kael, “This is a Type 4 reactor.”
“Great! I’ll go now. Be back before you all knew it.”
Kael ran towards the direction of the energy and when she was far enough from the group, she released her dragonoid wings. Her red but pinkish wings glittered under the afternoon sun; it had a small protruding sharp claw-like bone. Some of her skin turned into scales, including both of her cheeks and forehead.
She flapped her wings and flew towards the undulations. Stopping in midair, Kael saw a round, thick cloud between two hills, its vortex spinned as if it was drilling a hole. She felt a strong energy coming out of that very cloud, it was getting stronger and stronger.
Without a doubt, this was what she heard about what Axel’s group discussed inside their van. She decided to put the signal reactor at around five kilometers away from the cloud.
Kael flew fast to the south and when she saw the group, eating, she hid her wings and straightened her body like an arrow. Her body landed heavily and it created a crack on the ground. Kael’s arrival was so surprising that they spilled their cup noodles on their clothes and on the ground.
“Quick. Call Aires! Travis and Novalee too!”
