Crownless: The Fallen World - Chapter 30

Hale was leaning against the thick three with the child in his arms, sleeping so peacefully. His fingers carefully brushed the soft white locks of the child with a soft smile on his face, his eyes were still fixated on the blue opaque wall.

It has been a good 10 minutes until he decided to go through his contacts to call Kassean. But in the instant he opened his Holowrist and went into his phone book, there was a grayed name which confused him. After all, this only happened to him once and heard of it from the others too.

I think… this was when the person was dead when their name was grayed out of their contact list. Since if the host died, the Holowrist will be good as dead. Did someone die?

The thought of having someone died in his contacts, again, terrified him. He tapped the grayed name and saw the name he never expected to see. Heck, he wouldn’t even let the thought crossed his mind, but here it was.

Dread filled his face as he felt that time slowed, feeling his heart picked up its rate. His whole body stiffened, his hands stopped brushing the child’s hair, and his tears never stopped from escaping his eyes.

Why did he have to cry every time things involved someone he treasured? He thought that all he did was being weak in front of everybody, so useless and fragile. Even if he had the knowledge of the world, it still wouldn’t help in the situation he was in.

Sebastian Aires

He didn’t know he was staring at it for a long time when a lot of notification came crashing down into his Holowrist like a machine gun, waking the child in his arms.

“Mister? Why are you crying?” The child’s eyes widened when he saw the small holographic screen coming out of Hale’s wrist, “Wow! What is that, mister?! I never saw it before!”

His enthusiasm died down when he never got a response from the male, he tilted his head in confusion, “Mister? What’s wrong?”

“It’s… nothing. Did you have a good sleep?” Hale tried to sound soft and calm but the croaking of his voice betrayed him.

The child stayed quiet as he let himself lean on the chest of the man constricting his breathing.

Hale looked at the notifications he got and they were all asking what happened to Aires, he even got a missed call from Kassean. He breathed deep before calling the young blond back, “Hell-“

“What happened to Seb? Why is his name grayed out in my contacts?!” Kassean wore a face of disbelief, his brows were furrowed and his eyes were widened.

“I… I don’t know…”

“WHY?!” Kassean’s yell surprised the people behind him and startled the little boy in Hale’s arms.

“HOW SHOULD I KNOW?! He’s not with me! He is in that fcking city with the stupid storm!” He huffed, trying to calm his nerves with all his might. He relaxed when he felt small and soft arms wrapped around his torso, giving a squeeze of reassurance.

Kassean went silent, his expression softened when he saw how broken Hale was, “I’m sorry… and… what’s this all about?”

“The only thing I know… is… he might be dead…”

“What the fck?” Kassean laughed. The watching citizens tried to suppress their doubts to their Lord.

“He was angry earlier and he’s laughing now?” They whispered around each other, the topic circulated only in that certain Lord.

Arya looked at them with a forced grin as she motioned her forefinger around her ear, mouthing, “He’s an idiot.” That, the whole city council agreed. As of the news of Aires, of course, they didn’t know.

“What are you so surprised about?” Hale asked, ignoring the ramble that happened behind the male.

“You expect me to believe that? That guy is undefeated even before I knew him. Him? Dying?! Indeed, what the fck!?” The blond male’s voice was coated with venom, not believing the matter attended to him as it was really so ridiculous.

“I don’t want to believe it too!! But this kind of thing happened when my uncle died!”
