Blissful Days After Widowhood - Chapter 480
As Feng Yu looked at Gu Ye, he naturally understood, realizing that there were still unspoken arrangements, so he allowed him to speak.
The next day, Gu Ye returned to Duke Ying’s Mansion. Upon his return, he handed Feng Yu a small porcelain bottle, saying, “I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Feng Yu accepted it with a smile and replied, “Okay.”
When it was time to take a break from Wenhua Hall, Feng Yu returned to his house. Unlike other households where elders would eagerly prepare delicious meals for a returning family member, the Feng family was not one to follow such traditions. Mrs. Qin was seated with Lu Yuanqi, engaging in affectionate conversation.
Upon hearing that Feng Yu had come to pay his respects, Mrs. Qin suddenly remembered that it was the day he returned home.
Lu Yuanqi and Feng Yuan had married earlier, and as a son, Feng Yu naturally came to participate. However, he had rushed back to the palace for class before dawn the next day, and they hadn’t officially met since then.
Due to his status as the companion of Prince Lie, no one dared to comment on him. Mrs. Qin invited him in, patted Lu Yuanqi on the back of the hand, and said, “It just so happens that you haven’t met. Today, you can meet right in front of me. I’ll ask Ah Yu to serve you a cup of tea.”
Although annoyed with Feng Yu, Lu Yuanqi nodded obediently.
Not long after, Feng Yu entered the room and was initially taken aback by Mrs. Qin’s attire. His grandmother had been accustomed to wearing gold and silver, but this was on another level. Mrs. Qin was adorned with an entire set of old jade even within the confines of her home. Gold was intricately inlaid into her headpiece, thick gold bracelets adorned her wrists, and multiple dazzling gemstone rings adorned her fingers.
Feng Yu had never seen her wear such items before, and it was evident that these were not originally from Duke Lu’s Mansion.
Observing her affection for Lu Yuanqi, Feng Yu concluded that Lu Yuanqi was indeed a filial daughter-in-law.
Though amused inwardly, Feng Yu maintained a composed expression as he politely saluted.
At Mrs. Qin’s request, he was to serve tea to Lu Yuanqi. Taking the tea cup from Zheng Mama’s hands, he presented it to Lu Yuanqi, addressing her not as “Mother” but as “Madam”.
Considering Lu Yuanqi was only six or seven years older than him, calling her mother would have been awkward. Fortunately, Mrs. Qin didn’t insist on the formality.
Afterwards, Feng Yu didn’t linger in Mrs. Qin’s yard any longer, using the excuse of having homework to attend to, returned to his residence.
Reflecting on the mother-daughter dynamic between Mrs. Qin and Lu Yuanqi that he had just witnessed, Feng Yu couldn’t shake off a feeling of disgust.
After sipping a few cold teas, Feng Yu managed to suppress the nausea. He then instructed a servant to discreetly summon a maid. This maid had been rescued by Ge Zhu when their family of three was still in the army. Despite her seemingly dull and honest appearance, she proved to be loyal and reliable. Ge Zhu had entrusted her to him before she left the residence, allowing Feng Yu to rely on her with confidence.
Lacking any specific skills, she had acquired some basic abilities such as making a fire and cooking under Ge Zhu’s guidance. However, as Ge Zhu’s status became precarious after becoming the duke’s wife, the servant girl found herself relegated to low-level tasks in the big kitchen.
Feng Yu directed his personal attendant to stand guard at the door, and after a brief conversation with the maid, he handed her the porcelain bottle that Gu Ye had given him.
The servant girl couldn’t discern whether she was excited or nervous. Her entire body trembled, but she gritted her teeth and assured, “Young Master, I assure you, I will make sure to give this medicine to the old lady!”
Feng Yu, who was still sipping his tea, choked upon hearing this and exclaimed, “What did Aunt Jiang say? This medicine is not for my grandmother. It’s for Aunt Chun.”
“Ah?” Aunt Jiang stopped trembling. “Aren’t you trying to avenge Madam?”
Feng Yu responded with a smile, “My mother is very happy now, much better than when she was in this house. What revenge? And this is not poison…” After Feng Yu explained, Aunt Jiang realized her mistake, her face turning a shade of red.
Feng Yu reassured her, “Auntie, don’t worry. Once this matter is over, it will be time to bring you back.”
Aunt Jiang quickly acknowledged and secured the porcelain bottle in her arm before trotting back to the big kitchen.
