Blissful Days After Widowhood - Chapter 476
Before nightfall, Gu Yin and Gu Ye returned to Duke Ying’s Mansion.
Wu Qingyi arrived a little earlier than them, and as soon as everyone was present, Mrs. Wang urged the two to change quickly.
Wu Qingyi went behind the screen and changed directly in the main courtyard.
Gu Yin, accompanied by Mrs. Wang, Song Shiliu, and a few embroidery maids, returned to the courtyard where she usually resided to change clothes.
The woman’s wedding dress was intricate, with several layers stacked on top of each other. With the assistance of the two, it took ten minutes to finally finish dressing.
The wedding dress featured a long style with the skirt dragging to the ground. Gu Yin was not accustomed to it, and after putting it on, she almost stumbled several times due to stepping on her skirt.
When Mrs. Wang noticed this, she discussed with the embroidery woman to shorten the skirt.
They were discussing in that room when Wu Qingyi, having already changed outside, came over to ask why they still hadn’t come out after waiting for them.
“This impatient stinky boy!” Mrs. Wang laughed and asked Gu Yin to make a request with an embroidery maid. She then went out to chase people away, saying, “Come out, why are you hiding? Today is not your wedding day. If you want to see the bride in a dress, wait another two months!”
Wu Qingyi was helpless, but Mrs. Wang’s words were accurate. There was indeed a custom where the groom could not see the bride in the wedding dress before the ceremony. So, Wu Qingyi could only retreat to the main courtyard step by step.
Gu Ye came from behind. Being a child, he didn’t pay much attention to the custom. He patted his chest reassuringly with Wu Qingyi and said, “Don’t worry, uncle, I’ll take care of it.” Then, he slid away.
Seeing him approach, neither Mrs. Wang nor Song Shiliu stopped him. Gu Ye soon saw Gu Yin sitting in front of the dresser.
Even at seven years old, he could already discern the difference between beauty and plainness, and his mother had always been good-looking.
It’s just that on that day, Gu Yin was breathtaking. To complement the fiery red wedding dress, she wore a complete makeup, deviating from her usual plain face or light makeup, including blush and lipstick.
The radiant face matched the fiery red wedding dress. When she stood up, the well-cut wedding dress on her body vaguely outlined a graceful figure, resembling a throbbing flame, showcasing its elegance.
Since there was no full-length mirror, Gu Yin turned around in front of him a few times and asked him if she looked good.
Gu Ye was dumbfounded and said in awe, “It’s beautiful; my mother is so beautiful!”
Gu Yin couldn’t help but laugh at his sincere compliment and said to the embroidery maid, “Except for the skirt part, everything else is very good. There’s no need to modify it.”
Later, Gu Yin changed out of her wedding dress, and the group went to see Wu Qingyi.
Wu Qingyi was also adorned in fiery red wedding clothes. Unlike Gu Yin’s layered attire, his wedding clothes were simple in style and decent. Moreover, because Wu Qingyi usually wore sturdy trousers and sleeves, occasionally donning such a wide-sleeved robe showed a touch of literary quality that was not incompatible with him.
It was a different style compared to Gu Yin’s wedding dress, but the contrast was striking.
He was not typically self-conscious, but when Gu Yin looked at him from head to toe, a blush appeared on his face.
“Our embroidery maid’s craftsmanship is really good,” Gu Yin praised. “It suits you very well.”
Wu Qingyi followed with a smile, “Good if you like it.”
Mrs. Wang and others observed their sweet interaction and burst into laughter.
Later, Mrs. Wang instructed him to change out of the wedding clothes, and the family gathered for the evening meal.
After the evening meal, Gu Ye didn’t rush back to the house to do his homework; instead, he turned around and went to the old doctor’s yard.
There was an evening meal at the same time there, but the old doctor was accustomed to idleness and not particular about the dinner table. He ate while engrossed in medical books, and almost half an hour had passed without him finishing.
Gu Ye approached, and the young pharmacist boy hastily saluted him upon seeing him. Gu Ye waved his hand, signaling him not to be overly formal, then sat down next to the venerable old doctor and said cheerfully, “Master, haven’t you finished your meal yet?”
With that, he cast a glance at the dishes on the table—four dishes and one soup, all colorful, fragrant, but lacking in meat and fishy smells. Naturally, it wasn’t that Duke Ying’s Mansion withheld the old doctor’s meals; it adhered to his own dietary preferences.
Gu Ye remarked, “I know you pay attention to your health, but too much of this clear soup may not be good. Occasionally, you should indulge in something with meat.”
The old doctor replied with a smile, “No, I quite like these. Your house’s cooking skills are truly commendable, although these dishes are exceptionally well-prepared, the others are less interesting.”
“I know you enjoy my mother’s cooking. Why not express your cravings? I’ll let you in on a secret—my mother is the most filial, so she’ll gladly prepare it for you.”
Gu Ye didn’t say more, but the smile on the old doctor’s face seemed a bit constrained.
