Black Heart: Her Diabolical Ways - Chapter 9
2018, Modern world
Yi Meng felt as if her body was on fire. Her body throbbed as she floated in a dark space. Her thoughts were muddled as she continued to float.
Not long after, a bright light shone and dragged Yi Meng towards it. The drowsy Yi Meng now got a little strength and went for the light.
By the time she reached the light, everything became so colorful that she could only see white in front of her.
Yi Meng opened her eyes suddenly. Dreamy purple eyes stared at the ceiling above it. A slight look of confusion showed on Yi Meng’s face as she wondered where she was.
‘Wasn’t I supposed to be dead? Maybe I was saved.’
Yi Meng tried to get up, but her body felt as if it had been hit by a rock many times. She then looked at the room with her eyes slanted. A beeping sound was heard from beside her. To her surprise, a weird looking hard box with green lines on it was making some weird noises. The lines were moving.
‘What kind of sorcery is this!?’
Yi Meng found herself in a white bed. Warm covers were pulled over her body and the bed smelled of mint. ‘I haven’t felt this comfortable for four or five years.’
‘More importantly, where am I??’ Yi Meng somehow managed to twist her head. Upon inspecting, she found several more weird boxes around her.
She found a tube connected to her hand. Just as she was about to pull it off, the door opened and in came two women. One wore a short white dress whereas the other wore a white coat. Both had a shocked look on their faces.
“Nurse, this is a miracle! This has never happened before!” said the woman with the white coat, her voice slightly shaky.
“Doctor, should I call her family?” asked the nurse with wonder filled eyes.
“Of course. You go and I’ll take care of her,” The doctor shooed the nurse away.
Yi Meng only showed a confused face.
The doctor checked her pulse and took her blood pressure. To the doctor’s surprise, everything was normal. Yi Meng only stayed quiet, letting the doctor to do her work.
The doctor stepped forward with a gentle smile on her face, “Miss Yi, how do you feel now?”
“As if I have been hit by a rock many times. I’m fine. Tell me, where am I?” Yi Meng frowned.
“We’re in the hospital my dear.”
“Hos-hospital?? What’s that?” asked Yi Meng.
The doctor’s smile froze. Could it be that this girl has lost her memories?
“Could you tell me your name?” asks the doctor.
“Me? I’m Yi Meng of the Yi Clan.” said Yi Meng with a slightly proud look.
The Doctor’s face was now grave.
“Can you tell me how you were injured?” The doctor further inquired with a smile on her face.
“I do not feel that it is necessary to tell you,” said Yi Meng coldly.
The doctor gulped but still said, “I’m not forcing you, but if you tell me, I’ll do my best to help you. I promise.”
A suspicious look was thrown in her direction before Yi Meng sighed, “Fine, I’ll tell you. I’ll trust you this one time.”
A look of loathing showed up on Yi Meng’s face as she remembered the face that had laughed at her while she was dying.
“I was attacked by a group of men sent by my cousin Yi Ruo. They hit me, blindfolded me, and even-” Yi Meng broke off in between, painfully squeezing her eyes shut, “And even sexually assaulted me. I couldn’t take it anymore and hit my head on a tree. I didn’t fall unconscious until a man plunged a dagger into my stomach. Fortunately, I managed to survive somehow.”
The smile had completely dropped from the doctor’s face. It seemed as if this girl had not only lost her memory but had also started suffering from Split Personality Disorder.
Looking at Yi Meng, the doctor sighed and sat down, ‘What should I do? Should I tell her? I guess it’s better to do so. Maybe the person may remember something about their family. Aish! This is the first time I’m seeing a case such as this. Not only has this girl undergone physical torture but also mental torture and not to mention the car accident.’
“Yi Meng was it? I’m sorry but what I’m going to tell you is something that might give you a shock. Just remember I’m always there for you. Your real name is Yi Lan. You aren’t from some clan. You are just a seventeen year old schoolgirl. Yesterday, you were attacked by a gang and somehow, you managed to escape with just two bullet wounds. But in the rush, you were hit by a car. Most of your bones broke and you supposedly died on the spot. But the person who found you were desperate and begged us to take you to the hospital. And so we did. We tried our best but were unable to make your heartbeat. Yet now, you’re alive by some miracle. The only thing you’ve lost is your memories and now suffer from split personality disorder.”
“… What? What nonsense are you spouting?” asked Yi Meng in disbelief. She knew better than anyone that she hadn’t lost her memories. Was the person in front of her lacking in brains?
“I’m telling the truth. You’ll get to know the truth once you see your family.”
“My-my family?” asked Yi Meng in a wavering voice.
“Yes. Your big brother and sister must be on their way now.”
Yi Meng felt as if she was dreaming. Brother and sister? She didn’t have any siblings. Nor was she this Yi Lan. Then, just why was this woman calling her Yi Lan then?
“Look, you must be mistaken,” said Yi meng calmly.
“I’m not.”
The door opened and the Nurse came in once again. “Doctor, the Head wants to see you.”
The doctor nodded and with a pat on Yi Meng’s hand, she exited the room.
Once again, Yi Meng was left in silence. For the first time since her parents had died, Yi Meng felt too lost.
Yi Meng shook her head, trying to clear her mind. When a strand of hair fell on her face, she raised her hand to push it back, but she froze when she saw its colour. “White blonde? But I have silver hair?”
A look of horror spread across Yi Meng’s face when she finally realized. She had been reincarnated into this body. No wonder that woman was telling her such nonsense.
Yi Meng immediately searched for a mirror, but found none. As a result, she looked at the glass panel in front her. A pale, beautiful face stared back at her with lavender tinted eyes and white blonde hair.
“I look the same as before!” Yi Meng gasped.
“What’s going on? Why was I reincarnated? I thought that only happened in stories.”
She pulled off the covers from her body and noticed that she was wrapped from top to bottom with bandages. “That lady said I was hit by a car. What’s a car? Mmhhmm.. I’ll ask later.”
“This place seems different from White Leopard Kingdom. No, I think the correct assumption would be that I’m in an entirely different world than Plutarch,” Yi Meng mused.
Suddenly, the door opened with a bang and Yi Meng jumped in shock. A man with dark hair and emerald green eyes stood at the door. He seemed to be out of breath with the amount of panting he was doing.
‘He has the same hair colour and eye colour as the Crown Prince, yet he’ s more handsome.’ Yi Meng thought.
A look of relief and immense joy showed on the man’ s face. He rushed toward Yi Meng and wrapped her in his arms.
Startled, Yi Meng became stiff. But when she felt the warm hand on her back, she wrapped her arms on his back too.
“Lan-er, you scared the hell out of me! I honestly thought you had died.” The man’s voice was hoarse and so sad that Yi Meng felt a jolt.
Slowly, Yi Meng patted the man’s back, “It’s alright. I’m fine. I’m alive.”
These three sentences were short but they meant a lot to the man.
Yi Meng did not know who he was, but she knew that this person was someone pretty close to her. After all, she didn’t sense any harm from him.
Finally, after sometime, the man reluctantly let go off Yi Meng. With a warm hand, he caressed her hair. Yi Meng felt a little surprised, a familiar feeling spreading through her.
“Sorry, I got a little emotional. How are your injuries?” The man’s green eyes were fixed on Yi Meng.
“They are fine,” replied Yi Meng a little stiffly.
“What’s wrong?” asked the man, frowning.
“….What is your name?” Yi Meng asked.
“… Are you pranking me?”
“… No.”
“What nonsense are you asking Yi Lan?” asked the man with a surprised face.
“I’ve lost my memories and I have Split Personality Disorder according to the white coated lady,” said Yi Meng solemnly.
“What did you say!?” The man’s face contorted in anger and Yi Meng involuntarily flinched.
Seeing her flinch, the man sighed and sat down. “Relax, I’m not angry at you. I’m angry at the person who hit you. Anyways, I’m your brother Kai.”
Before Yi Meng could say anything, the door flew once again and this time, a pretty white blonde haired woman came through. Her blue eyes were filled with tears and she ran to Yi Meng.
With a sob, she embraced the wounded girl, muttering insensible words. Speechless, Yi Meng once again comforted the person embracing her.
After a few minutes, Kai got up and pulled the woman off of her.
“Kai, what are you doing?” yelled the woman, half sobbing.
“She lost her memories. She doesn’t remember us. There’s no use crying.”
The woman’s tears stopped immediately.
“What?”
“The doctor said so.”
“That dog!!! If he ever comes in front of me, I’ll kill him. How dare he hit my sister with his car!?” the woman gritted out.
“Yes. Yes. I’ll take care of that. Now, introduce yourself,” Kai said calmly.
A sad look flickered in the woman’s eyes before she said, “Nice to meet you. I’m your big sister Yi Mei.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Yi Meng.”
“Yi… Meng?”
“She has SPD too.”
What happened later was something unfit to be described on screen. Let’s just say that a few pillows’ soul were made to rest in peace.
“Umm.. Excuse me, but can you tell me where the toilet is?” Yi Meng asked.
Yi Mei was startled but nodded her head and went to show her the toilet when Kai stopped her.
“Just tell her where the toilet is.”
“But… why?” asked Yi Mei, confused.
“I’m pretty sure she needs some time to collect herself and adjust to these new things. Am I right?” Kai directs the last question to Yi Meng.
Yi Meng nodded.
Yi Mei pouted sullenly but told Yi Meng where the toilet was.
Yi Meng, on seeing Yi Mei’s face, comforted her, “It’s fine. I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay.”
“It’ll just take a minute.”
“Okay.”
“It’s not that far.”
“Okay.”
“Then, do you mind letting go of my hand now? I need to go to the toilet with both my hands,” said Yi Meng calmly, though there was a slight trace of mirth on her face.
Yi Mei’s face flushed and she let go of Yi Meng’s hands.
Yi Meng nodded and went to the toilet, as instructed.
Unexpectedly, the devices in the toilet were pretty weird, so it took a while for Yi Meng to understand.
By the time she came out, she saw a group of people with black clothes and a gun talking to Kai and Yi Mei.
Both parties had unpleasant expressions on their face.
Yi Meng’s leg suddenly trembled with pain as she felt the sting of wound on her thigh.
She dragged herself to where she had been resting and appeared in front of them.
Both parties looked at her.
The men dressed in black looked scary.
What could they want from Yi Meng???
