Aria's Tales - 1.9
Claude was right. Mingyan would never resort to begging a stranger who wasn’t professional in his work.
The radio staffs were panicking because they didn’t know where Sam was and couldn’t contact him either. They tried to ask Mingyan as well to contact him but they were in despair when they found out that she had no means of contacting him. It was five minutes before the live and Mingyan was already standing outside the recording room while some staff were rushing back and forth in panic.
Xiao Xi’s face was also black. She had seen some of Sam’s performances and had built up a good impression of the young yet genius rapper, but at this moment, it all came crumbling down.
“Sis Xi,” Mingyan called calmly. Her voice sending a soothing sound that made the panicking staffs who heard her slightly relaxed. “I’ll do it. But it will be in my own rendition.”
Xiao Xi and the staffs who were listening was stunned. Was she serious? Or was she just overestimating herself??
There was a person who held his phone with trembling hands as it flashed with a message that said, “It’s time for “My Identity,” please let the artists in.” He almost cried.
There was only one artist here!! “Miss Xi, it’s time.” That person turned to Mingyan’s manager with a pale face.
The staffs dejectedly slumped their shoulders. That same person who cried immediately made the courage to decide for the others. “Go go! Just do your best! We can’t take out this event because we’ve already announced on Weibo that there will be a live performance of “My Identity”! Please perform with all you’ve got!” His decision resounded in the hearts of the staffs there as well. It no longer mattered as long as she decided to perform. Besides, the one who will be criticized was going to be her anyways!
Mingyan nodded her head while Xiao Xi frowned in worry. “Please tell the host that it will be my own rendition.” She then gave a reassuring glance at her manager and calmly walked inside the room. But Xiao Xi was not assured at all. Right as Mingyan entered, she bolted to the waiting room and connected to the radio station through her phone.
At this moment, there was a song being played as an interlude. She wasn’t allowed to enter the recording room so she had no idea what faces were being made by the staffs inside. Then when the song ended, a female host jumped in right as the song faded.
“That was wonderful! It’s been so long since I’ve heard that song – I suddenly felt nostalgic.”
Then, her partner replied. It was a male voice. “Yeah, I think I was seven the first time I heard it.”
Xiao Xi was sweating as she waited for their announcement.
Female Host: “Now that the song brought us in the past. Let’s come back to the present!”
Male Host: “Oooh I’m excited about this.”
Meanwhile, most of the people who have tuned in to the radio at this time were also excited. The majority of them were fans of “My Identity,” while only a little were loyal audiences of the radio station.
Female Host: “Guess what? We just got a surprise today!”
Male Host: “Is everyone on the edge of their seat?”
Xiao Xi who tried to patiently listen was getting annoyed. Yes, yes I am!
Male Host: “That’s right! There will be a live performance of “My Identity” today!”
Female Host: “But there’s a twist! It’s Mingyan’s personal rendition of “My Identity”! Now I’m curious what she’ll do with the rap part.”
Xiao Xi’s worries lessened a bit. At the very least, the hosts did a good job in hiding the fact that there was a mistake and turned it into a surprise instead.
It did surprise the audience. Although they were dying to hear the live duet performance, their interests were inclined to this rendition, especially the increasingly popular new artist, Mingyan, who at the moment, had already reached about two hundred thousand of followers on Weibo. And the person herself didn’t even know. The hosts successfully diverted the audience’s attention.
Male Host: “Alright, without further ado, here’s Mingyan’s rendition of “My Identity,” live!”
Xiao Xi literally sat at the edge of her seat and listened dreadfully at the intro. Then to her shock, and to all the people listening, even to Sam who was also tuned in to the radio waiting for Mingyan to mess up, Mingyan brought the song to a different realm.
Mingyan took in Sam’s parts and made it to her own. She rapped the intro calmly and effortlessly transitioned to her own part. And even then she gave the same amount of emotions she had done on the first recording. However, the impact this time was greater. After all, she was also rapping like it was the end of the world. The emotions she expressed were tragic and lonely.
Halfway through the song, some people had already cried while the others had their hearts gripped in pain. Some of the people who were driving had already pulled away from the road and listened. They couldn’t concentrate on driving. The song was too emotional!
Xiao Xi was stunned until she turned to stone the longer she listened. She actually hit a jackpot this time. She must protect this girl well!
In the private room, Sam’s face had pale in shock while Claude was just like Xiao Xi – stunned to the point he turned to stone. How was she good at rapping as well?!
It definitely wasn’t as excellent and skillful as Sam’s. And in the rap community, skill is supposed to be the most important thing to consider. Rather, it was the fact that she could deliver emotions while rapping that gave the song a greater impact than it already had.
His face paled as well. Sam made a grave mistake this time.
In the topmost floor of Brilliant Stars, Hui Mingli was also listening to the radio station with the Brilliant Stars’ CEO and the CEO’s friend. He was suddenly called to report about Mingyan which confused him greatly. But he didn’t ask as he was merely just a songwriter no matter how famous he was.
He had told these two big shots that there was going to be a live performance of Mingyan and Sam at the local radio station. But when he heard the hosts say it was going to be Mingyan’s own rendition, he knew something had happened and paled.
His pale face had given it away, and the men who were attentive caught his reaction.
“Song Lu, I asked you to take care of my cousin.” It was Lu Feng in his formal business suit.
Song Lu was troubled. His friend can be so intimidating when it came to family matters. What happened this time? He turned to Hui Mingli. “Go find out what happened.” He could only comply, or else his friend will certainly erupt. Although it wasn’t him that he was scared about, it was Mingyan’s admirer and childhood friend. That Shen Yan!
Lu Feng understood his thoughts. But he didn’t care as long as his cousin wasn’t slighted.
Mingyan ended the song by making the last rap part into a ballad. And it brought those people who were already at the edge of their emotions burst into tears. The song faded, and the sighs of admiration from the two hosts could be heard. Then, they enthusiastically talked about the song until their mouths turned dry.
The staffs in the radio station felt guilty that they underestimated her. So they didn’t restrain themselves in showing their gratefulness to Mingyan.
Mingyan had also teared up while she was singing, and a quickwitted staff immediately offered their new handkerchief to her – he thanked the god of luck that he brought his newly bought handkerchief to work. There was no ounce of regret that he gave his expensive handkerchief to his new goddess!
The stressful event finally ended and Mingyan’s Weibo once again exploded. In a few days, her followers were going to reach 3 million! Though once again, the oblivious Mingyan didn’t notice until her manager asked her to post in her empty Weibo since the only thing in there was her first post.
Xiao Xi greeted Mingyan in the waiting room with a gentler gaze mixed with admiration. She had actually turned into a fan by her own artist. Even Douxin wasn’t able to shake her interest!
“Sis Xi ~ Did I do well?” Mingyan’s eyes sparkled. She already knew the answer judging from Xiao Xi’s eyes, but she couldn’t help and tease her manager.
Xiao Xi’s ears reddened as she coughed. She nodded. “Mn! You did well. In the competition tomorrow, you must do your best as well!” The rookie competition was actually one of the popular singing television show as it exposes new upcoming and famous artists. It was the best visual debut for Mingyan.
“Ah! I almost forgot. Have you started working on your debut album?” Xiao Xi returned to being serious. This was crucial since the first albums usually either go wrong or become the dark horse in the music charts. There was no in-between if you wanted to be part of the top artists. She wondered what Mingyan’s would be.
Mingyan nodded her head. She had actually already finished one song, and it was a love song. Her inspiration was, of course, Shen Yan. She had wanted to sing it to the competition, but since he wasn’t going then there was no point. She felt upset again.
Mingyan: Tonight, I’m barging in his room again!
Lily: Mingyan~ Please restrain yourself~
Mingyan: *pouts* Who told him to make an appointment that day! I worked hard on this song. It was for him…
Mingyan knew she was being unreasonable, but she really did wrack her brain just to make this one song! In all her other worlds, she had never been so motivated. So to suddenly be dosed with cold water really made her straightforward personality to be pissed. If she hadn’t fully integrated herself with Mingyan’s character, she’d have probably jumped on Shen Yan by now!
Xiao Xi was pleased. She then brought Mingyan home and took care of the aftermath. She knew there was going to be turmoil in the office after Mingyan’s performance. And as for Sam…
Her gaze darkened. After she made sure Mingyan was inside, she decided to report every single detail of the incident to her two Boss Lus, Song Lu and Lu Feng. She knew they were probably waiting for her detailed report. And to prove her point, her call was picked up within seconds.
“Come to my office.” It was Song Lu who had spoken. Then he hung up.
Xiao Xi didn’t take offence. She had already gotten used to it after being a part of his company since its founding.
She immediately floored the accelerator. This incident may have looked minor, but Mingyan’s identity was too special – in public and in private. Even if that radio station was simply a local one, it had fans all over the world because they post their daily highlights as podcasts on Weibo.
She had to make sure that the tide goes in favour with Mingyan. And only to Mingyan.
While Xiao Xi was becoming a mother hen to Mingyan secretly, Mingyan immediately went to her studio to work on the other songs in her album.
The central them was herself, so she titled it “Aria”. The songs were all about her experiences from different worlds. And the first song that she finished, the love song, was her favourite.
It had a simple accompaniment; piano, guitar, and a violin. She expressed her new experiences with the new feelings she got from being with Shen Yan. The first time she sang the song alone in her studio, in acapella, she had cried. Because she realized what she felt, and it scared her.
How was she going to let this emotion be free when she, herself, was bound by the fact that she was immortal?
